On Friday, five-star power forward Julian Phillips announced his commitment to LSU, picking Will Wade and the Tigers over finalists Florida State, LSU, Tennessee and USC.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, the 6-8, 200-pound forward ranks as the No. 15 overall prospect in the nation, No. 2 power forward in the country and No. 1 prospect in Missouri, where the elite prospect transferred to attend Link Year Prep.

LSU made the cut down to four schools in part because of his official visit to LSU this summer. The Tigers have one other 2022 commitment in four-star forward Devin Ree, who committed back in Dec. 2020.

“The visit was great. Me and my family had a great time down there with coach Wade," Phillips told 247Sports. "They have a really nice campus with real nice facilities, and everything was very good when I went down there. Coach Wade loves my game and I’ve been on multiple zoom calls in the last few weeks where he’s breaking down my game and things like that.”

Phillips was eyeing a school he can come in and make an impact at.

“I’m looking for a school I can play some good minutes in my freshman year, and come in and make an impact,” Phillips told 247Sports in July. “I want to be at a school that will help me develop my game. The ultimate goal is to be an NBA player, so I want a school that will develop my game for the next level.

"I want a good academic school as well. One day the ball will stop bouncing, and I will have to fall back on my education, so I want a school that will set me up well with that.”

This summer, 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Travis Branham called Phillips a “Swiss Army knife of a prospect who can slash, run the floor, defend multiple positions, rebound, pass and has really improved his jumper.”

“It was definitely a fun summer,” Phillips said of his game this summer. “We had a great year and a great July. Our coaches pushed us to play our best basketball in July. With the hard work I put in with my trainer, I really think I had a good July. Overall, I would say it was a good summer.”

LSU head coach Will Wade was looking for one or two more prospects to land in the 2022 class with Phillips as one of the top priorities while focusing his attention to the future.

"We're going to focus on some of the younger classes and working through that and getting those guys on campus early because I feel like for the first time we're not going to have the drastic roster turnover that we've had," Wade said last month. "Now, we're going to lose some guys, but we're in a pretty good spot with our roster for the next couple years. We're really focusing more down the road."

“The truth is, I didn’t know about him until he went in the portal. We use an analytics company that runs numbers on players in the portal and it spits out a rating between one and 100 like in a video game and his rating came back as a borderline All-SEC player and I was like ‘Who is this kid?’ He’s like an analytics dream with his offensive rebounding numbers and some of the other things he does. I popped in the tape and started watching film and I fell in love with him.

Does anyone know what analytic company that is and if the football team also uses that?
