Fishhead
Wife and I are about to purchase a lot in Seadrift, TX. Actually, 2 lots, but right next to each other and from the same owner(s), brothers that inherited it. We're going to put our large camper there permanently. It already has two RV slots with hookups, one will be for friends to use. It has a 30x20 carport that, if I was bringing the small camper, would be an RV cover. But I'm hoping it'll be a nice boat cover soon enough. The RV slots on on either side of the carport. There's also a nice metal shed on a slab on the site. We're also purchasing a 16x40 metal building and converting it into a cabin, which we will rent out. Trying to come up with a name for the cabin. Seadrift is a good fishing destination, but excellent duck hunting too, so we're thinking of "The Duck Blind". Probably won't stick with that, because I'm not much of a duck hunter, although that could change. "The Bunkhouse" is another option. I created a sketch of it on my estimating software. It's got a 16x16 living/dining area, as well as a 13x16 bunkroom. The bathroom is accessible from both sides. The other end, we're going to wall it off to separate it from the cabin and put a laundry room there with 2 washers and 2 dryers, a counter for folding clothes, and a laundry sink. The water heater will be located in there as well, tankless. If that cabin rents out pretty frequently and turns a profit, we'll look to add another smaller cabin, maybe a 14x28 or so. We've been looking for get away property for a while. We had been looking at Arizona/NM/Southern Colorado, but given our current and likely future work assignments, it wouldn't be easy to ever use it. We both work from home and this kind of assignment results in longer term than what's been my normal for 16 years.....deploying to a specific area out of town for a few months at a time. So we looked a little at the Texas Hill Country, which I like to visit, but let's face it, I'm a Louisiana boy at heart. Obviously you all know my passion is fishing. And in fact, inshore salt water fishing. I found Port O'Connor in the last few years, and it's pretty good speckled trout and redfishing. But land in Port O'Connor is hard to come by. Noticed Seadrift while driving to POC one day and checked out the area. It's only 9 miles from POC, but is a completely different fishery. Located on San Antonio Bay, which is an amazing speckled trout fishery, it has small shallow bays full of redfish as well. My wife eventually asked which place would make me the happiest, and Seadrift was the easy answer. It's the closest thing I'll find to Louisiana style fishing and it's nowhere near Houston lol. Or Corpus for that matter. Well, about 50 miles from Corpus, but that's enough. We hope to close in December. I'll post some pics in a few.

I mean unless the hurricane is headed to the central TX coast lol. Speaking of, that area didn't flood during Harvey, although wind damage was significant and right on San Antonio Bay got some surge. It's kinda protected though because San Antonio Bay doesn't have a pass to the Gulf like the other bays (matagorda, aransas, corpus cristi)
Fishhead
Like, I won't need flood insurance. But I will need Wind Insurance from Texas Wind Insurance Association (TWIA)

LSUDad
Passed that way yesterday, I might have slowed down maybe once. Made a good run. More dead Coyotes on the side of the road, never seen that many in all my 30 years of traveling down there.
Hatchertiger
Congrats FH! Any good surf fishing there? Started doing that a little in the fall at Cypremort Point. I'm heading west when in warms up toward Rutherford Beach to the La-Tx line.

So for some reason in TX, all they do is take their $80k go fast boats to a flat, then get out and fish. Really good surf fishing south of seadrift, especially south of Rockport. Like, Gulf surf fishing. I guess what I mentioned in the first paragraph is called wade fishing. I bought a 14' Jackson kayak Sunday. Looking for another for the wife.
