Herb Posted February 19, 2022 Author Posted February 19, 2022 https://lsutigerswire.usatoday.com/lists/lsu-football-2023-recruiting-offers-brian-kelly/ LSU coach Brian Kelly goes on an offer spree for 2023 recruiting class Share this article Kyle Richardson February 17, 2022 7:30 am CT Brian Kelly has turned into Oprah recently. “You get a scholarship offer, you get an offer and you get an offer,” the LSU coach proclaims. After signing a top-10 class for the 2022 recruiting cycle despite a very late start, the new Tigers coach isn’t resting on his laurels. He’s not satisfied with an impressive transition class, though. Kelly came to the SEC to compete for national titles. He wants more. I’m all for it. In just the last seven days, Kelly has extended scholarship offers to 14 prospects in the 2023 class. Here’s a breakdown of all of them. Mind you, these aren’t all of the offers, just a few of them. houtiger Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Interesting, I didn't see any from La. on that list. I wonder if these kids make better grades and have fewer off field behavior problems. Is Kelly going to go after higher character kids than O did? Is that part of the recruiting process in this regime? I don't see any 5* rated kids either. Maybe the rating services haven't tagged the 50 or so 5* kids yet? Quote
dachsie Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 I dont see any O-line in that list either Quote
houtiger Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 It's early in the process. I'm not sure how this goes. If a kid gets an offer at this stage, I know he can't say "I commit" and get a scholly. He and the school have to agree. So, is this more of fishing at this stage, "do you have a serious interest in attending our school?". I remember in the past, some confusion over whether an "offer" was a "committable offer", and it is not. Some kids did not understand that. Anybody more familiar with recruiting? Quote

LSUDad Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Meet LSU's Lone 2023 Commit, Receiver Omarion Miller Miller talks about his game, upcoming visits and why LSU is the right fit for him GLEN WEST 9 HOURS AGO Omarion Miller is the lone commit for the purple and gold in the upcoming 2023 class. He's a native of the very northwest corner of Louisiana in Vivian which is a 35 minute drive north of Shreveport. But when you're from Louisiana, no matter which part of the state you grow up in, young football players grow up with aspirations of playing for LSU. Miller is no different as he's been committed to the program since Aug. 2021, taking just a few months to decide Baton Rouge is where he wanted to be after a summer offer from the Tigers. "Growing up that's always been my dream school and when I got the offer, I just had to choose it," Miller said. "We have a great relationship and I had to go with it." Miller ended up with 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns during his junior season at North Caddo, becoming much more aggressive as a player which he believes led to such a dramatic uptick in production. One of the top receiver prospects in the country, Miller's ball skills, athleticism and vision make him an enticing addition to this LSU receiver group but he's also working to improve in one key area, route running. He's currently in development mode this offseason as Miller looks to improve his production as a senior while helping lead North Caddo to a long playoff run in 2022. Miller's offseason workouts consist of weight and speed training every other day while also training with his travel football team and basketball team as well. "I definitely want to improve on my route running, it's not where it needs to be yet and when I get there I'll be a problem," Miller said. "I've got real good ball skills, able to high point it very well and don't drop too many balls." Miller is the inaugural commit of this 2023 class for the Tigers and that certainly carries some added weight with him. He's currently playing basketball while also traveling with the 7v7 program the Louisiana Bootleggers throughout this spring to a number of different events. A couple of recent LSU signees in Laterrance Welch and Jordan Allen were on that team a year ago and were teammates with Miller. Now Miller is the veteran in the group and trying to recruit some of Louisiana's best, including linebacker Jaiden Ausberry and receiver Shelton Sampson to the class. "I tell them home is home. Most of the kids I play with are from Louisiana and I tell them once they visit one time, they'll fall in love with it," Miller said. "Those older guys always tell me to never take breaks and once you're playing for a team like the Bootleggers you can never take a play off." While Miller is a solid LSU commit, he does want to explore other options as well, with Florida and Nebraska being two schools that have made an impression on him so far. Of course the Gayturds just hired longtime ULL coach Billy Napier and the Cornhuskers brought LSU receivers coach Mickey Joseph, who recruited Miller at LSU, to their program during the Tigers coaching change. He'll also make a visit to LSU this spring to get to better know the new staff a little bit better once the recruiting dead period ends. "I love it, it's a great feeling and a really good fit," Miller said. "I'm taking it slow but really focusing on just getting better. They compete for championships and I think that's always exciting." 1 Quote

LSUDad Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 LSU football legacy, 4-star QB Eli Holstein decommits from Texas A&M Koki Riley, Lafayette Daily Advertiser March 19, 2022, 1:24 pm Four-star quarterback Eli Holstein of Zachary decommitted from Texas A&M on Friday, he announced on Twitter. At 6-foot-3 and 226 pounds, Holstein is the No. 8 quarterback and No. 54 recruit in the nation. He is also the No. 2 prospect at his position in Louisiana, only behind five-star recruit Arch Manning. LSU offered Holstein before he took a snap in a high school game. Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Ohio State have also extended offers. He had been committed to Texas A&M since June. Holstein's family has deep ties with LSU. His father, Scott, played for the Tigers and his mother also attended the school. Caleb, his older brother, is a quarterback at Louisiana Tech and won a state championship at St. Thomas More in 2020. Holstein won a state championship at Zachary this past season. He attended a Junior Day event at Alabama earlier this month and received an offer from Oregon on Tuesday. LSU has just one commitment in its 2023 class, four-star wide receiver Omarion Miller. 1 Quote

Herb Posted March 24, 2022 Author Posted March 24, 2022 LSU picks up commitment from four-star tight end out of Missouri. Kaylee Rome | @rome_kaylee & Adam Guttuso | @adam_guttuso Mar 24, 2022 Updated 1 hr ago LSU Football picked up a commitment from Mac Markway Thursday afternoon. The four-star tight end is a 2023 prospect sitting as No. 100 overall player in the country. Markway played under LSU Corners Coach Robert Steeples during his early career at DeSmet High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. Head Coach Brian Kelly stated during a press conference Wednesday, "I think our depth situation at tight end is concern of mine. That's an area we need to continue to build on." Although Markway will not be on the roster until the 2023 season, this shows that help is on the way for Kelly. 1 Quote
LSUDad Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Mac Markway, 4-star tight end in 2023 class, commits to LSU By Brody Miller March 24, 2022Updated 4:30 PM EDT Four-star tight end Mac Markway (St. Louis, Mo.) committed to LSU on Thursday, giving the Tigers a major addition in arguably its biggest position of need in the 2023 class. Markway, the No. 100 overall player in the country, chose LSU over Iowa, Miami and Florida. Markway played for LSU’s new cornerbacks back, Robert Steeples, when Steeples was the head coach at De Smet High School. The LSU ties continue when considering Markway was recruited by offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock at Cincinnati and special teams coordinator Brian Polian at Notre Dame. Tight end has become a crucial need for LSU as it struggled to recruit and retain talent there the past few years. Five-star phenom Arik Gilbert left midway through his freshman season in 2020 and now plays at Georgia. Then, three-star 2021 signee Jalen Sheadleft the team before the season started. LSU is looking for a veteran option in the transfer portal, but Markway gives a high-profile option for the future. 1 Quote

houtiger Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 Visits for the spring game, from Dandy Don today. In football recruiting news, LSU is hosting several recruits for the today’s game, including a pair of elite prospects — five-star QB Dante Moore of Detroit, Michigan, and WR Carnell Tate of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. — who are in on official visits. Moore tweeted a picture of himself with Joe Burrow, and Tate did the same with Ja’Marr Chase, which I think is fantastic. Props to Coach Kelly or whoever it is that lined up those meetings for this weekend. And kudos to Kelly for also buying a home on the LSU Lakes less than one mile from campus. Because of it’s proximity, Kelly is allowed to entertain prospects (official and unofficial) at his residence, which is something he’s doing this weekend. 1 Quote
