LSUDad
LSU baseball star goes first overall in recent MLB mock draft! The Athletic’s Keith Law released his first 2022 mock draft earlier this week, and he had an LSU star as the first player off the board. Law has the Baltimore Orioles selecting Jacob Berry, the LSU slugger who transferred from Arizona, with the top pick. Berry, who recently returned from an injury, has crushed it for the Tigers this year. He’s is hitting .380 with 15 home runs. He’s walked more than he’s struck out with a .668 slugging percentage. There are few hitters on Berry’s level in this draft. The only issue is that Berry most likely projects as a designated hitter once he hits the big leagues. That could cause some teams to stay away from the sophomore. Law says that this draft class has no clear-cut top pick. He wrote that Berry projecting to be a DH is the reason he wouldn’t pick the Tigers’ leading hitter anywhere near No. 1. If drafted by the Orioles, he would be joining one of the top farm systems in baseball. If the Orioles want to compete within a few years, they may like how pro-ready Berry is at the plate even if he is destined for a DH role. Berry being the first pick would give LSU a shot at back-to-back top picks with Dylan Crews being one of the top prospects in the 2023 draft.
