Astros' Alex Bregman hits home run for Uvalde girl who asked him to go yard!

You ask. Alex Bregman delivers. The Houston Astros third baseman notched a two-run homer in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics, helping the team to a 6-3 victory on the day and fulfilling a request made by a young fan in attendance.

Bregman told reporters his two-run shot off Oakland's Cole Irvin was for a young girl from Uvalde, Texas he'd spoken to prior to the game. One of 500 Uvalde community members bussed in by the Astros and given free tickets to Sunday's game, she'd asked Bregman to hit a home run—a request he fulfilled in short order.

"It was really cool," Bregman told reporters after the game, per FOX 26's Mark Berman. "Anything we can do for them. I'm glad they were here today...as soon as I got to the dugout Dusty [Baker] said 'Hey, you hit one for Uvalde.' So it was nice."

Bregman's homer is the second in back-to-back games. In August the third baseman is hitting .400 and getting on base in half of his plate appearances, as noted by The Juice Box Journal's Michael Schwab.

Prior to Sunday's game, Bregman joined Jose Altuve, Lance McCullers Jr. and Astros owner Jim Crane for a meet-and-greet with Uvalde residents in attendance for the franchise's "Uvalde Strong Day." Players fielded questions and family members of victims killed in the May 24 mass shooting walked the outfield track, according to Brian McTaggert of MLB.com. Former Uvalde CISD softball coach Abraham Gonzales presented Astros manager Dusty Baker with a Uvalde ballcap emblazoned with the school's mascot and logo.

"I had an extra cap from when I coached, so I thought before I left the house today, I said, 'You know what, I'm going to present Dusty a cap,'" Gonzales told McTaggart. "I actually told Dusty, I said, 'Any time you need a rally cap, just rub on this and you guys will get a for-sure hit.'"

On Sunday Astros unveiled a special "Uvalde Strong" shirt for purchase benefiting the community of Uvalde and the families of Robb Elementary shooting victims. The first pitch was thrown out by Faith Mata, whose younger sister Tess was among the 19 students and two teachers killed by 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos in May. Faith told McTaggart that her sister was a huge Altuve fan and repped the franchise any time they appeared on television.

"Any time the Astros' games were on, she'd throw on her [Astros] t-shirt and just run into the living room and just cheer for them, even though she didn't know what was going on," Faith said. "She just loved Altuve.

This was Saturday!

Bregman went 1-for-1 with a grand slam and four walks in Saturday's 9-6 win against the Angels.

Los Angeles pitchers didn't give Bregman much of a chance to swing the bat as 16 of the 17 pitches thrown to him on his four walks were out of the strike zone, but he maximized his production on the one ball he put into play, blasting a grand slam to left field in the fourth inning. Per Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle, this was the second time in Bregman's career that he has drawn four walks in one game, and the grand slam was his fifth as a major-leaguer. The third baseman is swinging a hot bat, compiling a 10-game hitting streak during which he is batting .417 (15-for-36) with two homers, 13 RBI and a 6:4 BB:K.
