LSU @ Kentucky right now ESPN

It's halftime in Lexington and the Wildcats are up 8 at the break.  Incredible defense by Kentucky has Tremont Waters completely out of sync.  Poor shooting from behind the arc again, 2-9 or so for Mays and Waters.  Need someone to step up big time in the 2nd half.

Tigers rallied back to take a small lead before Kentucky closed out the half on a run.

Not sure what to expect not having to comeback from 14-20 points lol.  Could mean it's just not our game, or maybe we'll win easily instead of having to sweat it out in the end.

GEAUX!!!

LEXINGTON, Ky. — One of the things Will Wade likes about his LSU basketball team is its ability to hang in and keep playing when things aren’t going well.

That’s been the Tigers’ strongest trait in the past six games when Wade’s team has somehow been able to come back from big second-half deficits.

It happened again Tuesday night when No. 19 LSU, which trailed by nine points on four occasions in the second half, rallied and pulled out a thrilling 73-71 victory over No. 5 Kentucky in Rupp Arena in a game that ended with controversy.

Kavell Bigby-Williams tipped in a missed field-goal attempt by Skylar Mays at the buzzer, which officials looked on replay before ruling that Bigby-Williams hadn’t touched the ball while it was in the cylinder.

It was the sixth Southeastern Conference road win without a loss for LSU (20-4, 10-1 SEC) and it snapped a second-place tie with Kentucky (20-4, 9-2) in the league standings. Top-ranked Tennessee, which hosts South Carolina on Wednesday night, is a half-game one game ahead of LSU.

The victory was the 13th in the past 14 games for LSU, while Kentucky had its 10-game winning streak snapped.

The Tigers did it with a strong second half when it shot 51.7 percent from the field while Kentucky connected on just 36.7 percent.

Tremont Waters led LSU with 15 points, while Naz Reid and Emmitt Williams finished with 12 each. Mays chipped in with 11.

Kentucky got a game-high 20 from PJ Washington, while Keldon Johnson dropped in 16 and Tyler Herro 12.

The game was tied at 69-69 after Washington knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:12 to play before Waters put LSU back in front when he calmly converted a one-and-one opportunity with 20.5 seconds left.

LSU’s Marlon Taylor committed a big mistake, however, when he fouled Johnson with 6.0 seconds left. Johnson sank both free throws to tie it four the fourth time in the final 8½ minutes.

Mays took the inbounds pass and headed up the floor and tried to get a layup to go with several Kentucky defenders trying to get to the ball.

It came off the backboard and hit the front of the run, but Reid and Bigby-Williams went to the glass and Bigby-Williams tipped it into the net for the game-winner as Kentucky fans voiced their displeasure along with coach John Calipari and his players.

LSU trailed by eight points at halftime (40-32) after shooting just 33.3 percent in the first 20 minutes, while Kentucky built its nice lead in hitting 46.7 percent.

It was the fourth game in a row in which the Tigers went to the locker room on the short end of the score.

LSU, however, rebounded in the second half to win three of those games. After losing to Arkansas, the Tigers were able to overcome Mississippi State, Auburn and Kentucky.

Kentucky was threatening to put LSU away when it built its biggest lead at 42-33 on a Reid Travis basket with 18:55 left and the Wildcats were up by nine three more times over the next two minutes.

But the Tigers refused to go away and chipped away at the deficit until Williams tied it at 56-56 with 8:40 left.

Williams then hit a basket on a pass from Javonte Smart to give his team a 58-56 advantage and the Tigers never trailed again even though the game was tied three more times going down the stretch.

Y'all should watch them now lol. Every single game is this exciting. It's a really good brand of basketball

I saw some basketball guys on ESPN talking, they said LSU is the real deal.  Should be a sweet 16 team.  They said if you rebound at the offensive end the way LSU can, you always have a chance to win a game.

Our offensive rebounding is very offensive to the opponent trying to win...

And free throw shooting. Those two are really why i'm so excited about this team.

I mean, i know at one point last night, we were 17-20 from the line. And that's normal for this team.

The offensive rebounding is ridiculous. We get over 1/3 of our misses!

Let's talk about this game.

There's a lot of hoopla being made over the tip in being basket interference.

Depending on the angle, it may well have been. But...

I don't care.

On the same play with the ball on the backboard, TWO Wildcats had the hands THROUGH the rim, one slapping the backboard. That's goaltending, game... over!

Add to that the non-call of over the back when PJ what's his name fouled Naz... who had great position for the rebound and is a great free throw shooter.

Add to that the ticky tack home court call on Taylor that even allowed it to be a game.

Cry me a river, Big Blue Nation. You got outplayed badly in the 2nd half and the better team won.

Enjoy your Tennessee game Saturday. I know you've been looking forward to it. You just forgot one thing.

The Tigers are for real!!

Everything you said was spot on. This one I remember screaming about just as you probably did when it happened. It was blatant and obvious. The goal tending was split second and not obvious in real time. I think it's stupid not to allow replay on that in last 2 minutes...but it's the NCAA so.

From what I saw in slow-mo replay was a UK players arm and hand go up into net from bottom, ball tried to go out and LSU tipped it in.  Wouldn’t  that arm up thru the net be considered defensive goal tending? I ask because I don’t really follow basketball or know the rules

Depends on where the ball was. But fwiw, it was TWO Wildcats who stuck their paws through the net, and if you watch in slow motion, the whole basket moved quite a bit for quite a while.

They shook the basket and yes,  that's a violation.

Saturday we play UGA

This might actually be a tough game.  Georgia has some big boys that can set up camp inside and create fits both in rebounding and inside scoring.

We won fairly easily in the 1st game but we also did that to Arky in the first game with them, so we need to not enter this game too cocky - especially after the upset win in Kentucky.

We beat Arky in OT first time. But yeah, need to play focused. So much on the line going forward!
