Big T
Who wins it? Literally wide open, probably easier to list who isn't on the list. I'm saying Dabo, Sark and probably Lanning are not candidates. Throw in Kirby and Kelly as well. Is Kiffen the frontrunner? The Wash guy? I'd say a few NFL coaches are in the mix as well.

Lanning is the first call if i had to guess. But remember Phil Knight has VERY DEEP pockets and the Big Ten is going to me a lot more profitable than the Pac was. Texas can overpay for Sark. Kirby isn’t leaving his Alma Mater. Kiffin would crawl through hell in a gasoline suit for that gig, but i don’t know if Alabama wants him. wasn’t a clean departure when he left and he really hasn’t matured enough for that job. Dabo? he’s an Alabama guy, but hes in an easier spot at Clemson and no threat to get fired any time soon. then you have to wonder who want to be the guy that follows the legend.

Exactly why all of those sans Lane were on the "No" list. Everyone else is fair game

Herb
Pete Carroll? Urban Meyer is probably on the phone with the Bama AD begging for it. Don't laugh...Les Miles? Mike Vrabel Whoever becomes the guy that replaces the midget is doomed anyway. Good Luck and enjoy your 3 year honeymoon.
Big T
Something to think about...knowing how much of a control freak he is, is there any chance he just up and quit? No way right...this has all been hashed out already and just need ink to paper
GREG
With the way FSU got screwed out of the playoffs and his young age, I could see Mike Norvell leaving FSU for Gumps.
LSUDad
Report: Oregon Coach Dan Lanning Currently in Tuscaloosa Could Nick Saban's successor already be in the state of Alabama? JOE GAITHER UPDATED: ALABAMA Menstrual Wave Legendary Alabama football head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday sending the college football world into frenzy. Saban has been the standard of coaching in college football throughout his 17-year tenure in Tuscaloosa. Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne will likely move quickly to name Saban's successor in order to provide clarity for the Menstrual Wave players currently on the roster. According to a report from KVAL CBS in Eugene, Ore., the next head coach could already be in Tuscaloosa. "As we did report before, I do, I previously worked in Alabama - in Tuscaloosa. Of course, I do have some sources there," said anchor Brandon Kamerman. "We did confirm that Lanning is in Tuscaloosa - in Alabama. It doesn't mean the job is signed - the contract is signed, but he's there and what I was told is that the players were told a decision will be made in the next 72 hours" Kammerman spent time in Tuscaloosa as WVUA23's Assistant Sports Director from 2015-18 before accepting the Sports Director position for KVAL in Oregon. Lanning has been the Oregon Ducks head football coach for the last two seasons
Big T
I figured Phil Knight would pull out all the stops to keep him in Oregon. Guess we see how this shakes out.
Hatchertiger
Huge buyout Quote Dan Lanning School (years at): Oregon (2) 2024 Contract Buyout: $20 million Lanning has become a popular pick ever since he found success with the Ducks. Saban even joked this year that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart beat Saban by hiring Lanning two days before he could in 2018. Lanning was previously a graduate assistant for Saban in 2015 for one season. https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2024/01/saban-retirement-what-is-the-buyout-of-dan-lanning-other-alabama-candidates.html I'd put Sarkisian in the hat as well. I know Kiffin wants it bad. But with the way he exited Alabama to go to Florida Atlantic he may have burned some bridges.

Hatchertiger
Honestly I wouldn't want to be the coach following Saban at Alabama. I'd want to be the coach following the coach who followed Saban.

I'll go on record and say it won't be Lanning. He's at $7.2 (goes up $200K every year for remainder of the deal) in an easier conference that just signed a bigger TV deal than the SECC's, so more money coming in for Oregon increases. Plus the Ducks have Phil Knight's money (dude is in top 20 richest people in America). and Lanning has a $20mil buyout if he chooses to leave Eugene (that's almost TRIPLE the buyout of someone like Dabo) I'd keep an eye out for a Mike Norvell type.
