Herb
Have to wonder if this team is playing to the expectation of the preseason predictions where LSU was the picked to be the 5th best team in the SEC West.

houtiger
Nuss is doing fine, what we thought he would be. I wish he had a little run threat. The o-line has been the biggest disappointment to date. It's not that they are bad, it's that they play way below the expectation everyone had set for them. Their pass blocking is pretty good, but even Will Campbell let a DE by him completely untouched. It was not lack of physicality, Campbell blocked to the inside and nobody attempted a block on the DE. For the good reputation of the o-line coach, I see enough instances of guys coming free and two guys blocking on one, leaving an opening. The right guard makes some of those mistakes. As far as the RB, Josh Williams is a good dependable back and will give you all he has, but he won't hit a home run for you, at least not consistently. My crush, Kaleb Jackson, seems to be a physical specimen, but I swear he cannot see. He goes right where the play is designed to go, and if there is no hole there, he runs into whoever is filling the hole and falls down. Caden Durham has eyes, speed, enough power to break a tackle at times, and he has some wiggle. He can create and if the hole was not there, he went somewhere else and made a positive out of nothing. Justin Vincent? On defense we got gashed twice by long runs. The game would not have been so close without those two plays. I'm frustrated, but its still early in the season. I hope coaching can improve certain players. Brad Davis coached at Arky when they has strong running games, so I'm surprised we are not doing better at the run. I enjoyed watching the game, it was close and back and forth, and kept it interesting until the end. A little too interesting for my taste.

CEH didn't emerge as a star until his Sr. year in 2019. Quote Justin Vincent put together the finest season for a freshman in LSU history, rushing for a freshman school record of 1,001 yards in leading the Tigers to a 13-1 overall mark and the national title

Herb
So I finally got to watch the full game late last night. My impressions: South Carolina is a lot better than people give them credit for. Kennard was a beast. LSU is a lot better than people are giving us credit for. We were burned on big plays - take away those and it is a very different score. Our defense (aside from the big plays) actually didn't play all that bad. We still have some glaring holes and some work to do. We found a running game. Durham was a much needed surprise. It looks to me like humility is starting to work its magic on our OL. Campbell made some inexcusable whiffs that cost us, but I think he's stopped reading his own press and is starting to actually own (and learn from) his mistakes. I saw a lot of people griping about the refs, but I don't think they were that bad. They were not any difference in the game and every call I saw looked pretty good for the most part. The team overall looked much more disciplined and we weren't killing ourselves with inexcusable personal fouls. All in all, I felt a lot better actually seeing the game than hearing other's impressions. Geaux Tigers!

We will or might drop a game or two that we should win and probably win a couple we should lose. Gonna be an interesting season.
Fishhead
26 minutes ago, Fishhead said: I agree with 1,2, and 7 Possibly 5 One game does not confirm a "running game" Number 3 is odd. You can't just take out the big plays. Our defense is still an issue. I thought the LBs were the best unit on this D, but after 3 games, it's clear they're the worst. People like Whit Weeks because they see him busting his ass, but in reality, his gap discipline sucks and he was responsible for TWO of those big plays all by himself yesterday. But hey, lots of tackles. Perkins needs to work on tackling too along with Savion. Really idk that I've seen a worse tackling lsu team. Hatchertiger
Whit Weeks plays all out, hits hard but he is slow laterally. I know Baker likes to run blitz. Not sure what the call was on those two long TD runs.
LSUDad
Durham is about an inch shorter and 2 lbs lighter than this guy. Somewhat similar running style. Durham has great speed, gives you a leg and takes it back, finds green grass as well as any RB. I know lots of comparisons, but he might be closer to this guy. Terrance Magee is another, but Durham is his own guy. He had 98 yards, 8.9 ypc and 2 TD's. Kaleb Jackson was brought along slow, they will bring this one along a little quicker. Oh, the guy he kind of runs like?
houtiger
To make us feel a little better about the game, the SC d-line is fearsome. But on the big plays against our offense, I still see two LSU guys blocking one, and one coming free. BK said after the game, all of the problems he saw were fixable. What I saw is fixable. Facing such a good d-line early in the season should sharpen our o-line.

houtiger
I like our receiver corp. It is not up to Nabers and BTJ, but we did not expect that. But Nuss has a handful of trustworthy middle distance receivers plus Lacy, and we can live with that. Chris Hilton can go deep if he gets healthy; it sounded like they expect him back in a week or two. Anderson, Daniels, Thomas, and if we can get Shelton Sampson to mature a little, we will be good. Mason Taylor has been good since he got here. Treydez Green is seeing the field early.
