LSU FOOTBALL POSTGAME NOTES
#1 LSU at Ole Piss
November 16, 2019 –Vaught-Hemingway Stadium (Oxford, Mississippi)
1. The LSU Captains were QB Joe Burrow, OG Damien Lewis, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire and LB Jacob Phillips
2. Ole Piss won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. LSU received the ball and defended the North end zone in the first quarter.
3. LSU is 26-4 in games played as the No. 1 ranked team
a. LSU is currently No. 1 in the AP, Coaches and CFP polls
4. LSU won its final road game of the season, finishing with a 5-0 record in true road games. 2011 was the last time LSU was undefeated in true road games for an entire season.
5. This is the first time since 2011 that LSU has begun a season 10-0

Offense
1. QB Joe Burrow continued to rewrite LSU’s record books when he passed for 489 yards against Ole
Miss on Saturday and now has 3,687 yards on the season, passing Rohan Davey’s 3,347 yards in 2001 for the most passing yards in a single season at LSU. Burrow went 32-42 with 5 touchdowns and two interceptions on Saturday. He is 20-3 as LSU’s starting quarterback.
a. His 489 passing yards in Saturday’s game is the second most in school history behind Rohan Davey’s 2001 performance against Alabama with 528 passing yards
b. On an 18-yard completion to Ja’Marr Chase in the first quarter Joe Burrow passed Rohan Davey’s passing yards’ record of 3,347 yards in a season, set in 2001

c. Burrow has completed at least 20 passes for 13 consecutive games dating back to the 2018 season
d. Saturday’s game was Burrow’s fourth consecutive 300-yard passing game, tying an LSU record that he set earlier this season
i. He has passed for at least 300 yards in all but two games this season
ii. In the past four games he has passed for 327 yards at Mississippi State, 321 vs.
Auburn, 393 at Alabama and 489 at Ole Piss
e. Burrow currently holds the LSU record for 300 yard passing games in a career (10) and in
a season (8), passing touchdowns in a season (38), total touchdown responsible for in a
season (41 - 3 rush, 38 pass), completions in a season (268), passing yards in a season (3,687)
f. Burrow’s 38 touchdown passes on the season are inching closer to the SEC record held by
Drew Lock who threw for 44 touchdowns for Missouri in 2017
i. Burrow’s 38 touchdown passes the fifth most in SEC history
g. Burrow is (268-341) this season a 78.5 completion percentage.
i. LSU’s season completion percentage record is held by Ryan Perrilloux who
completed 68-percent of his passes in 2007
ii. The current NCAA season completion percentage record is held by Colt McCoy
who completed 76.7-percent of his throws for Texas in 2008
h. Burrow set a school record with 17-straight complete passes during Saturday’s game
2. WR Ja’Marr Chase finished the evening with 8 receptions for 227 yards and three touchdowns
a. His 227 yards on Saturday are the fourth most in school history and a new career-high for
the sophomore
b. He became the seventh player to record 1,000 receiving yards in a single season in LSU
history.
i. It happened on a 51-yard touchdown reception from Joe Burrow in the second
quarter
ii. Full list of 1,000 single season receivers in LSU history: Josh Reed (1,740 in 2001),
Wendell Davis (1,244 in 1986), Jarvis Landry (1,193 in 2013), Odell Beckham Jr. (1,152 in 2013), Josh Reed (1,127 in 2000), Ja’Marr Chase (1,116 in 2019), Michael Clayton (1,079 in 2003), Eric Martin (1,064 in 1983) and Justin Jefferson (1,010 in 2019).
c. Chase became the first LSU receiver with 3-straight 100-yard games in a singles season since Michael Clayton (first three games of the 2003 season)
d. With three touchdown catches, Chase set the LSU record for touchdown receptions in a season. He currently has 13 on the year, breaking Dwayne Bowe’s 2006 record of 12
3. WR Justin Jefferson finished the day with 9 receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns
a. He became the eighth player to record 1,000 receiving yards in a single season in LSU
history.
i. It happened on a 48-yard reception down to the seven yard-line from Joe Burrow
in the third quarter
ii. Full list of 1,000 single season receivers in LSU history: Josh Reed (1,740 in 2001),
Wendell Davis (1,244 in 1986), Jarvis Landry (1,193 in 2013), Odell Beckham Jr. (1,152 in 2013), Josh Reed (1,127 in 2000), Ja’Marr Chase (1,116 in 2019), Michael Clayton (1,079 in 2003), Eric Martin (1,064 in 1983) and Justin Jefferson (1,010 in 2019).
b. With his two touchdowns on Saturday, Jefferson now has 11 on the season.

Davis (1986) for the third most in a single LSU season.
4. RB Clyde Edwards Helaire carried the ball 23 yards for 172 yards and a touchdown
a. He has five 100-yard rushing games this season, including in each of the past three games. i. He is the first Tiger with three-straight 100-yard games since Leonard Fournette
(final three games of the 2015 season including the Texas Bowl)

ii. He had 136 against Auburn, 103 at Alabama and 173 at Ole Piss
5. WR Ja’Marr Chase and WR Justin Jefferson each have 10+ receiving touchdowns this season. It’s the second time two receivers have had 10+ receiving touchdowns in the same season: Devery
Henderson (11) and Michael Clayton (10) in 2003.
a. Chase and Jefferson are the first 1,000 yard receiving duo at LSU since Jarvis Landry and
Odell Beckham Jr. in 2013
i. They are only the third duo to ever accomplish the feat in SEC history
1. Florida’ Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell each had 1,000 receiving yards in 2001
Defense
1. LB Jacob Phillips led LSU with 11 tackles, including five solo
2. LB JaCoby Stevens has nine tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss
3. LB Patrick Queen had nine tackles, including one tackle for loss
4. CB Derek Stingley Jr. recorded his 14th defended pass of the season.
5. CB Kary Vinent recorded his second career interception in third quarter
a. It is his second career interception and first since the Utah State earlier this season
Special Teams
6. K Cade York was 3-4 kicking field goals Saturday night, including a 52-yard career long field
goal in the third quarter
a. His previous career long was 48-yards set against Georgia Southern in the season opener
i. It is the longest field goal made by an LSU kicker in an opponent’s stadium 2004 when Chris Jackson hit a 53-yarder at Arkansas
b. He also made kicks of 33 and 27 yards against Ole Piss
