Yep, might be a little early. But it’s here.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron hit the recruiting trail on Tuesday to both visit 2020 prospects ahead of National Signing Day in February and check in on recruits the staff is targeting for the future.

Orgeron began his day in South Louisiana with a stop at Terrebonne High, where he checked in on five-star defensive lineman Maason Smith - one of LSU's top targets regardless of position for next year's 2021 class.

He then made his way to New Orleans for a number of high schools stops, including a trip to check in on 2023 quarterback Arch Manning at Newman.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is coming off a huge freshman season where he led the Greenies to a 9-2 record. He passed for 2,407 yards and 34 touchdowns during his high school debut season, adding six rushing touchdowns to his resume.

Manning is the son of Cooper Manning, nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning and grandson of Archie Manning, making him one of the most recognizable names in high school football. While he has not reported any college offers, plenty of schools have expressed heavy interest in the freshman out of New Orleans, and once the Manning family allows him to dive deeper into the recruiting side of his high school career, the opening of those floodgates will brings plenty of college scholarships - LSU included.

Earlier this month, Manning was selected as the MaxPreps National Freshman Player of the Year.

Manning shined from the start, making his high school debut against Lusher and completing 24-of-34 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns. In the weeks that followed, he passed for 211 yards and three touchdowns and followed that up with a 289 yard, five touchdown game. Very quickly, he became one of the most talked about young quarterbacks in the country.

Manning became the second Louisiana native to win the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year award, the other being Dylan Moses in 2013. He became the sixth quarterback to win the award.

Previous winners include NFL breakout star Nick Bosa and Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Manning camped at LSU last summer ahead of his freshman season, taking part in the annual 7-on-7 tournament with the Newman Greenies. During that visit to campus, the Manning family were given the red carpet treatment by LSU's staff, spending time with assistants like Steve Ensminger and Mickey Joseph and plenty of time with Orgeron.

Manning still has three years of high school football remaining in front of him, which should only continue to increase his national exposure as one of the most promising young arms in the country. Manning is currently playing high school basketball at Newman.

Here's a look at some of this throws and runs from the game against St. Charles Catholic this past season.

If I remember correctly at the end of ESPN’s Book of Manning special Archie had all his grandkids sitting on the stoop and the oldest boy (Arch) yelled Geaux Tigers when grandpa asked them all which team was the best.

An Arch would be right.
