Joe Burrow puts up billboard in Baton Rouge

LSU Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's opening round of the NFL Draft, where he will likely head back to his home state of Ohio to play for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Burrow spent two years in Louisiana playing for the Tigers, and he left as one of the most-decorated players in program history, winning the Heisman Trophy and countless other awards as he helped bring LSU back to the National Championship Game, putting the icing on top of the cake that was a perfect 15-0 season.

With 24 hours until the NFL Draft, Burrow has given a final farewell to the state of Louisiana by putting up a billboard in Baton Rouge that reads "Thank you LSU and Louisiana!", with Burrow wearing his "Burreaux" jersey. The custom jersey was an idea Burrow crafted for Senior Night in November, wearing the cajun-inspired nameplate onto the field for introductions.

With the Bengals expected to pick Burrow, head coach Zac Taylor joined ESPN’s “Get Up” show on Wednesday and discussed the future for the likely No. 1 overall pick.

“He’s got all the traits you’re looking for in an NFL quarterback,” Taylor said. “He’s able to lead a bunch of guys who are really talented players. Sometimes that can be difficult but they managed to win all 15 games and he did an exceptional job. That’s not to mention the skill set he’s got as a quarterback on the field. He’s a really exciting prospect.”

As far as meeting with the Heisman winner before the draft, the Bengals used all of their allotted meeting time with Burrow, and Taylor opened up on what those meetings were like.

“We’ve spent a lot of time with him the last couple of weeks,” Taylor said. “We’re allowed three hours a week to meet with these guys and make sure they’re the right fit for us. We feel very comfortable with him as a prospect. We’ve talked to a lot of guys, but certainly formed a really good relationship with Joe.”

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter is confident in the Bengals selection of Burrow with the first pick. He told the world during their NFL Nation Mock Draft that he does not believe the Bengals will trade the No. 1 overall pick, despite the kings ransom that would come in return.

"I am going to tell you that is not going to happen," Schefter said. "They will not trade that selection. They will hold it. They will make it. And they will be happy with that selection. That No. 1 pick will not be traded. Cincinnati will hold onto that pick and Joe Burrow is expected to be that No. 1 overall selection."

This past season, Burrow passed for 5,671 yards and an FBS-record 60 touchdowns en route to a College Football Playoffs National Championship victory over Clemson.

The NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday, April 23, with Burrow planning to watch the draft from his family home in Athens, Ohio.
