McMath out, Stingley likely to return for Texas A&M game

LSU will be without starting quarterback Myles Brennan against Texas A&M on Saturday in College Station, with Brennan now missing the past three games and expected to miss the remaining games with an injury that has likely turned into a season-ending one.

Now, the Tigers are hoping not to lose any more starters ahead of games against the Aggies, Ole Piss and Florida, as well as the potential for a rescheduled game against Alabama.

LSU cornerback Derek Stingley, Jr. was injured against Arkansas while returning a punt, and he didn't return to the game.

On Monday, head coach Ed Orgeron said Stingley would return to the practice field and would likely only need a short window this week to get the green light to play on Saturday.

"Stingley will practice (Monday) in a gold jersey," Orgeron said. "He has not been cleared yet but it looks like he is going to be fine."

Stingley finished with two tackles and a tackle for loss while returning three punts for five yards. He was replaced on punts by Koy Moore, while Cordale Flott, Jay Ward and Dwight McGlothern got snaps at cornerback given Eli Ricks - the team's other starting cornerback - was ejected for targeting.

Ricks will be back against the Aggies given his ejection happened in the first half of the win at Arkansas, and while Stingley is expected to play, the Tigers will certainly have to continue to lean on players like Flott, Ward and McGlothern.

Ward had the biggest moments this past weekend, coming up with a timely third down stop in the final minutes before blocking the game-tying field goal attempt on the following play, which helped secure the 27-24 win.

On offense, the Tigers leaned on wide receiver Racey McMath with six targets before he suffered an apparent hamstring injury on a deep ball down the sidelines. He didn't return the game, finishing with three catches for 48 yards and a touchdown.

The bad news is McMath is not expected to play against the Aggies on Saturday, a game where the Tigers are already listed as 14-point underdogs.

"Racey is out. Very doubtful," Orgeron said on Monday. "Hopefully we can get Trey Palmer back. I don't know if he will be back this week."

Palmer traveled to Arkansas but was not dressed out for the game. Orgeron said beyond starting wide receiver Terrace Marshall, LSU would now turn to players like Kayshon BoutteKoy MooreJaray Jenkins and Jontre Kirklin. Boutte and Jenkins both had three catches against the Razorbacks, with Jenkins hauling in the game-winner. Kirklin had one catch for 19 yards, while Moore saw time at receiver and on special teams in the return game.

LSU and Texas A&M are set to meet at 6 p.m. on Saturday in College Station. Stay tuned to Geaux247 and 247Sports for more injury updates on the Tigers.
