Good for him. Coaching is a very time consuming job.

So true, knowing so many in the profession. It is a tight knit group, one  year you’re recruiting against a coach, the next, he’s on your staff.
Wives and kids fall into this also, they move from city to city, state to state, change schools. But all adapt well.
A few of my friends, when their sons were dating girls, the sons wanted to go into coaching, the parents would explain everything to the girl, tell them moving, changing schools, churches, houses, etc. This is the life of a coach. Most of the coaches I know, check with their wife before taking a job after an offer.
A good friend of mine, we still laugh about when his wife tells him, “We need to move!” After being in Starkville a month, now this was years ago.

Were you a coach?  If so, at what level(s)?

Never coached. Have scouted a few players over the years. Friends with a number of coaches. When I say a tight fraternity, you know a few coaches, that number grows over the years. I know a few in High School, College and Pros.

LSU senior offensive analyst leaving to join New York Giants

Joe Judge sure does love him some SEC coaches.

If you were unaware, the New York Giants have the most SEC-friendly coaching staff in the NFL. Just look at some of the names on Judge’s Giant staff.

Former Alabama running backs coach Burton Burns holds the same position in New York, former Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley is the tight ends coach, former Alabama quarterback Freddie Kitchens is an offensive analyst, former Georgia and Tennessee linebacker coach Kevin Sherrer holds the same position for the Giants and former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt is a defensive analyst for the franchise.

On top of all that, Judge went to Mississippi State and previously coached at Alabama under Nick Saban. Last season, Judge had former Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema on his staff.

Now we can add another SEC connection in New York as LSU senior offensive analyst Russ Callaway is joining the Giants. This news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

Callaway joined the LSU coaching staff in February of 2020 after previously serving as offensive coordinator at Samford University. Callaway also has experience coaching at Alabama under Nick Saban.

LSU hires recruiting specialist away from SEC West rival

LSU just added to its recruiting department and did so at the expense of an SEC West foe.

On Friday morning, Mississippi State recruiting specialist Mason Smith announcedhe was leaving the program to join Ed Orgeron’s LSU program. Smith tagged Austin Thomas in his announcement, suggesting he will work under LSU’s general manager.

“I appreciate Mississippi State for giving me an opportunity in this industry,” Smith shared. “I’ve developed lifetime relationships with some great people. But I am excited to say I’ve accepted a job at LSU. Let’s get this going @LSUFootballGM. Geaux Tigers”

Smith had been on staff in Starkville for two seasons and had the title of “recruiting specialist” in Starkville. Prior to joining Mississippi State, Smith was a scout for Core 6 Sports.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for the new Tiger assistant as Smith is an LSU graduate. During his time at Mississippi State, Smith helped the Bulldogs recruit Texas, which is an area that LSU and Thomas also have a history of recruiting.

LSU bolsters coaching staff with reported addition of former NFL assistant with SEC ties

LSU continues to bolster its coaching staff as Ed Orgeron’s program looks to rebound from a disappointing 2020 season.

The latest addition is recent Detroit Lions running backs coach Kyle Caskey as an offensive analyst, sources told The Athletic. Caskey spent the last two years as Lions RB coach, and before that he was with the Cincinnati Bengals for nine years. Another experienced NFL coaching addition for Coach O.

Caskey was hired in Detroit before the 2019 season, after he spent the previous nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he started as an assistant offensive line coach, the Detroit Free Press reported at the time.

Caskey was promoted to running backs coach in 2013, and has worked with 1,000-yard rushers Joe Mixon and Jeremy Hill early in their careers.

The Texas A&M graduate earlier in his career was a defensive graduate assistant at Louisiana-Monroe, recruiting coordinator at Indiana State and a defensive intern at Ole Miss.
