Figured I was missing something... just remembered less than 2 outs part a lot of umps don’t understand it either it’s probably one of most misunderstood rules in the game despite being pretty clearly worded. must have fewer than 2 outs. must have a force play available at 3rd (so runners on 1 & 2, or bases juiced). an infielder must be able to make the catch using “routine effort”. umpires’ discretion on that last bullet point. ump clearly and loudly call it immediately. runners can advance at their own risk. they are not forced, so tag must be applied to get them out if they do try to advance. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
