CINCINNATI (WAFB) - Former LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase continues to have an impressive season in his rookie year in the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals receiver was named the Pepsi Rookie of the Year on Friday, Feb. 4.

Chase, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, led all rookies in receiving yards and touchdowns his 1,455 yards, ranked No. 4 in the league, his 13 touchdowns ranked No. 3 and his 81 receptions ranked No. 3 among rookies.

The rookie phenom also broke the franchise record for receiving yards in a season, once held by Bengals great Chad Johnson. He also set the single-game rookie receiving record in Week 17 against the Kansas City Chiefs with 266 yards.

A product of Archbishop Rummel in New Orleans, Chase also set the rookie record for receiving yards in the postseason with 279 surpassing Rams legend Torry Holt. Chase has been a big part in helping the Bengals reach their first Super Bowl appearance since 1989 and their third in franchise history.

I read about the Bengals defense half time adjustment and it makes sense.

1. In the first half, the d-line was putting pressure, but they were pushing well past Mahomes, giving him room to step up or to take off and run down field.  In the second half, they only rushed 3, and they quit pushing past Mahomes.  They kept him in front of them to limit his scrambling ability.

2. They dropped 8 and did a very good job covering his receivers.  That is why you saw Mahomes hold the ball so long, then he tried to scramble around until someone came open, but nobody was coming open.  Go to #1.

It worked.  Along with some poor decision making by Mahomes.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A young Bengals fan is gaining fame on social media for his stylish impersonation of quarterback Joe Burrow.

Look up the definition of “cool” in the dictionary, and you might find a picture of Burrow in Cartier sunglasses, a black turtleneck and a gold chain. That’s the image, and the outfit, that’s taken Cincinnati by storm during the Bengals astonishing run to the Super Bowl.

Tyler Timler has taken note as well. The 6-year-old Hamilton boy isn’t just matching styles, though; he practices his throwing motion in a no. 9 Joe Burrow jersey.

How much fun has it been? “Like, 5,000 percent,” Tyler said.

Tyler’s mom, Shauna, says the comparisons started around the time Burrow was drafted. The comparison took on greater meaning as the team started their run.

“He wanted a Bengals jersey for his birthday, and he got it, and he wanted Burrow,” Shauna said. “Had to have Burrow, and then when he seen him with the glasses, he just thought he was the coolest thing ever.”

Tyler says it’s cool to hear people say he looks just like his idol.

“It’s really, really fun because I love him,” Tyler said.

The Timler family explains the Bengals have brought them together for decades, and they’re all enjoying this magical ride to the Super Bowl.

Tyler has his sights set on high-school football in the fall. Then he says he wants to play in college and, eventually, in the NFL.

Would you rather have Joe Burrow or Reggie Bush? Ed Orgeron weighs in

Keith Farner | 7 hours ago

Ed Orgeron was on the sidelines for 2 of the best college football players in at least a generation.

During a visit with radio host Dan Patrick this week, Orgeron shared who’d he rather have between former LSU great Joe Burrow and former Southern Cal star Reggie Bush.

“I like Reggie, but what Joe Burrow did for us at LSU, he’s the greatest player, in my opinion, in LSU history,” Orgeron said in an interview that aired on Friday. “But to have a quarterback, to win the championship, you need a great quarterback. I learned that from Jimmy Johnson. Get a great quarterback, who’s smart and tough, and get a great defensive line.”

Patrick also asked Orgeron who was more important in recruiting, Burrow, or former star WR Ja’Marr Chase.

Orgeron said Chase was committed to Florida from the state of Louisiana, but he needed a quarterback.

“Joe set the tempo for everybody,” Orgeron said. “So I got to say it’s Joe, but that’s a hard question.”

Orgeron then re-told a now popular story of Burrow’s recruitment and how he said all he wanted to do was talk football and eat crawfish. Orgeron was amazed by Burrow’s knowledge, and in a meeting of LSU coaches, Burrow was the most knowledgeable.

“I figured out immediately that Joe was the smartest person in that room, including me, Steve Ensminger, who did a great job as offensive coordinator, Jerry Sullivan, 74-years-old had been in the NFL for years,” Orgeron said.
