Death Valley

so now that I've had a day to recover.

this was in all seriousness one of the legendary Death Valley Crowds.

I don't know how high up the list it is, but it is WAY the hell up there.
top 5 for sure. maybe top 3.
hell could be top 1.

from well before the word go, the old girl was awake and buzzing.
pregame was lit!
the "forever LSU!!!" at the end of Alma Mater was deep and booming.
I'm confident boats in the River heard ever word of the Anthem.
the T.I.G.E.R.S cheer before band forms the tunnel might still be echoing.

then came the game.
and the noise never stopped.
seriously had trouble hearing the band. no clue what Dan Borne' was saying, we drowned out the piped in music most of the night.
"Go Tigers" "T.I.G.E.R.S.......TIGERS!" "LSU ... LSU ... LSU"

it just kept coming. and when our boys needed us to find another level, we did. and then some.
There were times when the videoboards were shaking and losing focus.

when it dawned on us we were going for two, I knew right then and there we were winning it.
there was no way in hell Death Valley was losing that game.

as soon as Mason Taylor dove across the goal line .... EUPHORIA!!!!

and THAT ladies and gentleman is a field storming!

Yeah I was trying to think of other games that might have matched this game. I came up with Jawja '03 (which was a 230 game) and Fla (Tebow cried) and Auburn '07 (Flynn to Byrd). May be tainted b/c this game is still so fresh in my mind, but this game might be "it". NOBODY left early for this one LOL.

Reading that the sound was recorded to be 133 dB

Well:

Quote

How Loud Is 130 Decibels: Common Sources of Noise

130 dB is extremely loud and equivalent to:

  • a jet take-off
  • the loudest rock concert ever recorded
  • a gunshot at close range
  • the sound made by a jackhammer

All sounds that exceed 85 decibels are considered dangerous to human hearing, but this intensity level is considered extremely dangerous.

Yea - I am sure some folks probably had a temporary threshold shift in hearing and maybe some tinnitus

I had three Gumps students, all girls. All I got was screams in my ears. They had to be over 133 DB’s. I told them in regulation, we left too much time on the clock! I said they would score, put the game into OT. One girl said, “ I like you, for a Tiger Fan!”
Then I told them, they would score, but we would win!
After it happened, I turned around, they agreed I called it. I told them to have a safe trip back. I did give them a betting tip for next year. I said we will beat Gumps at their house next year, take the Tigers!
