Many expected last year’s Friday night starter, Zack Hess, to be the guy again with Eric Walker in either a Saturday or Sunday role as the 2017 Freshman All-American worked his way back from Tommy John surgery that sidelined the right-hander for all of 2018. Mainieri said Hess will start Friday night on a limited pitch count with Walker available in a short relief performance. Walker’s first start is slated for Wednesday against Northwestern State.
