SEC lands 9 players on Associated Press All-America team

Keith Farner | 1 hour ago

They’re quickly becoming household names, and in a matter of months, several could be stars in the NFL. But for now, nine SEC players are Associated Press All-Americans.

Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow of LSU led the first-team offense, with teammate WR Ja’Marr Chase, and on defense, freshman CB Derek Stingley. Georgia placed tackle Andrew Thomas and safety J.R. Reed on the All-America team.

Kentucky landed two players on the first team, all-purpose star Lynn Bowden Jr. and punter Max Duffy.

The SEC claimed both defensive tackles, Derrick Brown of Auburn, and Javon Kinlaw of South Carolina.

Alabama had no players selected to the first team for the first time since 2010, but had five players combined on the second and third teams. LSU and Ohio State each placed three players on first team, which was released Monday. The team was picked by a panel of 15 college football poll voters.

The SEC landed seven players on the second team, and two on the third team.

Ohio State led all teams with seven players selected to the three All-America teams, including quarterback Justin Fields, who made the second team.

Oklahoma, Utah also had five selections on the three teams and LSU and Clemson each had four.
