LSUDad
Nice write up ...good not great. A miss No. 1 LSU Tigers 9 OF 9 Todd Kirkland/Getty Images One of the best recruiting tools of the postseason so far has been Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow's heartfelt message to LSU coach Ed Orgeron while accepting his award. But Coach O was already loading up on blue-chip prospects before that. In his third stint as a head coach, Orgeron is back at home on the bayou and has all the resources he needs to build a powerhouse. He's sitting on a gold mine of talent in Louisiana and is now winning battles for elite players in recruiting hotbeds across the nation. This could be the program that topples Alabama every year, just like it did in 2019. The Tigers' 2020 class is rivaled only by a handful of teams, including the Crimson Tide. LSU has arguably the nation's top offensive player in electric tight end Arik Gilbert, who chose the Bayou Bengals over Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and others. Early signing day was a mixed bag for Orgeron, though, as 5-star receiver Rakim Jarrett flipped his commitment and signed with Maryland, according to 247Sports' Billy Embody. Safety Malcolm Greene flipped to Clemson, per 247Sports' Anna Hickey, and 247Sports' Kipp Adams reported wide receiver Jermaine Burton flipped to the Bulldogs. These were big blows to a strong class, which soured the end of a great haul for the Tigers. But they did add linebacker Phillip Webb, who chose LSU over Alabama, and 4-star offensive tackle Marcus Dumervil committed on Wednesday to round out a stellar early signing period. LSU's class got off to a huge start when 5-star cornerback Elias Ricks chose the Tigers early in the process, and the momentum has continued. The 4-star players are deep and loaded for Orgeron, with receivers Kayshon Boutte and Koy Moore joining Jarrett. That has to be exciting for 4-star quarterback commit Max Johnson, the son of longtime NFL quarterback Brad Johnson and nephew of former UGA and Miami coach Mark Richt. LSU nabbed several pass-rushers and defensive linemen, and the group at large features eight of the top 100 prospects in the country. Now that Burrow has shown the Tigers can have a passing attack, there's a lot of excitement for the future on both sides of the ball. Orgeron is kicking butt in the Boot in this year's cycle. Herb
Also, please keep in mind that there is usually a year lag between a highly succesful season and reaping the recruiting benefits. By the time the national awards are handed out and the national championship trophy is hoisted, most kids have already committed or have already signed their scholorship offer. This year's success for LSU will actually be translated into next year's signings.

Last year we finish with a 15th ranked class, in 20118, we were 13th, in 17, 7th. That equals to a #12 class, over a 3 year span. Over a dozen teams had higher ranked classes than us. None are ranked #1 in the Nation in the polls. We are. I said what O and the staff did last year to get us to 10 wins, was a major accomplishment. What is going on this year, it’s even on a larger scale. Too follow that up, a few of the teams we beat this year. How they did the past three years in recruiting? UGA 1,1 and 3. Put it this way, starting from 2014, UGA finished 9, 6, 5, 3, 1 and 1. UGA has been beat by the Tigers, the past two years. 73-26. 46 points is a bunch. Is it the X’s and O’s, or the Jimmys and Joes? Texas, close to us the past three years, along with aTm, barn and Fla. But next year, we too will have to do a better job in coaching and player development. Yes, O has not been able to walk into a recruits living room and tell him O just came off of winning Coach of the Year, and it will give O some more credibility. Not only is he a sincere guy, but he's effective. Joe Burrow was not on the NFL's radar in 2018, now he's a Heisman winner and first round draft pick, that is "player development" at LSU. If LSU can snag the natty, that would give O a lot more credibility in the effectiveness category. None of that was possible to haul in the 2020 signing class, but at least most of it, and possibly all of it, will be true in recruiting the 2021 class. Geaux Tigers! houtiger
I think I am happiest about us signing the two big defensive linemen from in the state, Roy and Guillory. That makes up a little for us losing Sopsher last year. I read that Sopsher took a redshirt year. Not sure if he was out of shape, not needed on the d-line, or what the deal was, but like Tyler Shelvin, he can come back to haunt us down the road. Roy and Guillory were both in the top 5 in the state, and we have to keep those kind of guys at home. This year we had a sound d-line, but there is room for improvement. We didn't have a Glen Dorsey type of guy that could really disrupt. I hope those two guys can help us improve.
LSUDad
Eric Taylor Signs With LSU Big defensive lineman from Alabama makes it official. By Billy Gomila@ATVS_ChefBilly Dec 18, 2019, 4:58pm CST @Eric_Taylor96 One of many big-time defensive line prospects in the 2020 class, Eric Taylor of Trussville, Ala., signed his national letter of intent to join LSU today. Taylor, a four-star, top-300 player, committed to LSU over the in-state Crimson Tide in June, and has stayed strong ever since despite a big push from Kentucky late in the process. Taylor ranks as the No. 27 defensive tackle in the 2019 cycle overall, but still the No. 279 player overall. Dennis Johnson and Tommie Robinson were his main recruiters. LSUDad
Early Signing Day Recap: Coach O Discusses The Hits And Misses LSU gets some surprises both good and bad on Early Signing Day By Zach Junda@ZacharyJunda Dec 19, 2019, 9:06am CST Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports The first day of the early signing period has come and gone and LSU made plenty of headlines relating to the prospects they did and did not sign. Recruiting is always a fluid process. No matter how locked in a kid may seem he may flip at the last moment. Nothing is official until they sign their name on their letter of intent. LSU got an unpleasant reminder about that when a pair top-10 receiver prospects long thought to be headed to Baton Rouge spurned the Tigers on signing day. Rakim Jarrett, a four-star receiver from the D.C. area, flipped his commitment to Maryland and Jermaine Burton, another four-star from California, signed with Georgia. Both Jarrett and Burton committed to LSU in April. Later on in the day, LSU found out they also missed out on No. 5 overall prospect Jordan Burch to his home state South Carolina Gamecocks. Burch was a tough one to read throughout his recruiting process, and LSU was thought to have made a strong push late for the five-star defensive end, especially when it looked like Clemson was out of the running. But Burch elected to stay close to home and play for Will Muschamp. Burch is the highest-rated recruit Muschamp has landed in his tenure at South Carolina and he is the Gamecocks’ most prized recruit since Jadeveon Clowney signed in 2011. “Obviously distance was a factor with two of them, maybe three of them,” Ed Orgeron said. While LSU lost out on Jarrett and Burton and couldn’t swing Burch, it maintains its top-five recruiting class ranking and even picked up a pair of key pieces. Buford, Georgia native Phillip Webb, a four-star outside linebacker, signed with LSU. Webb was one of Dave Aranda’s most sought after pieces and filled a need with a top-100 prospect. “We needed more speed, we needed more pass rush,” Orgeron said. Coach O said between Webb and BJ Ojulari LSU got two of the most “dominant” edge rushers in the class. LSU also picked up a commitment from top-100, four-star offensive tackle Marcus Dumervil from Fort Lauderdale. Per The Athletic’s Brody Miller, Dumervil is the highest-rated tackle LSU has signed since Austin Deculus in 2017. The Tigers also maintained the services of some of their prime pieces. Five stars Arik Gilbert and Elias Ricks both signed their Letters of Intent. Ricks, the No. 2 cornerback in the 2020 class, will be an early enrollee; Gilbert, the No. 9 overall prospect on 247, is the highest-rated tight end ever listed on 247 and was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year on Tuesday, the first tight end to ever earn the honor. To date, Gilbert is LSU’s highest rated prospect in the class. Other notable names signed their LOIs Wednesday. Koy Moore and Kayshon Boutte, a pair of four-star receivers from Louisiana, signed as did TJ Finley and Max Johnson, two four-star quarterbacks. Finley is also an early enrollee and was already at practice on Wednesday afternoon. Brooks Kubena ✔@BKubena Sign with #LSU in the morning, practice in the afternoon. TJ Finley (11) dresses out with the quarterbacks. 1,703 4:27 PM - Dec 18, 2019 Twitter Ads info and privacy LSU still has six spots remaining in its 2020 recruiting class. Orgeron said that the areas he wants to focus on in this class include running back, defensive line and mentioned possibly taking another defensive back. Fishhead
Most people have Evans to UGA at this point. I have him to TAMU with us going after Gibbs. Burch... who the hell knows? Most have him sticking with USCe. Makes zero sense though. Why not sign now? If I had to say, I'd say UGA gets him. Compromise is distance from home.
