LSUDad
LSU reveals what players will wear coveted No. 7, No. 18 jerseys in 2020 Andrew Olson | 6 hours ago LSU has announced its new No. 7 and two players who will wear No. 18. Following Ja’Marr Chase’s decision to opt-out of the 2020 season and declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, JaCoby Stevens will be carrying on the legacy attached to No. 7. One Bettor Costs Himself A Large Payday On FanDuel Sportsbook - The Pat McAfee Show Stevens’ LSU online bio calls him “the undisputed leader of the Tigers, a leader on the field, in the locker room and in the community”. A former 5-star recruit in the class of 2017, Stevens has developed into one of the top safeties in the SEC after bouncing around between various positions with the Tigers. Stevens started all 15 games in LSU’s national championship campaign. He finished second on the team in tackles (92) and sacks (5.0), adding 9 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions and 6 pass breakups to earn second-team All-SEC recognition from the conference coaches. Stevens follows Grant Delpit, D.J. Chark, Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson as LSU standouts to have worn No. 7. After Chase opted-out, standout LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. suggested on social media that he was sticking with No. 24 and wasn’t interested in No. 7. As for No. 18, another special LSU jersey number, it will be shared two players, running back Chris Curry and linebacker Damone Clark.
houtiger
I would have given Stingley #7 and JoCoby #18. I think Derek is very team oriented, massively so by declining #7, to see another deserving Tiger get that honor. Derek can see he will earn many honors, already has, and maybe he will wear #7 his Jr. year. Now, Derek can help the team by seeing that more of his deserving teammates are appropriately honored. By Derek doing the unselfish thing, then I agree JaCoby gets #7. Damone Clark played a lot last year, he looks deserving. Curry, I will have to trust the coaches on that one. We haven't seen enough of Curry to judge him. I hope he has a great year, but he'll be splitting time with two other talented RB (or maybe 3).
Herb
I have no problem with Stevens getting #7. He won that on the field by arguably being the best returning player on the defense from last year.
