Former LSU Duo Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase Have Reportedly Begun Throwing Together

Burrow, Chase have potential to be dynamic NFL duo from the very start of careers

Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase created one of the most electric passing duos in the history of college football. The general feel is that the pair will quickly be able to find that chemistry once more now that they're NFL teammates in Cincinnati.

But with Chase starting rookie mini camp and Burrow still rehabbing from that torn ACL during the season, there were questions as to when the two would be able to start working out together. Well that answer came a bit sooner than many probably realized.

According to a report from FanNation site AllBengals, Chase and Burrow worked out for the first time this week and even threw during the workout session. Burrow, who has been throwing for months now, is on track to be ready for week one of the NFL season but it's important for him to gain that chemistry back with his old LSU teammate.

That was a key focus during that 2019 offseason as Burrow and the receivers would meet up every Saturday to get route combinations and timing down well before fall camp even started. Chase has said the most difficult part to life in the NFL is quickly picking up the terminology that's used. He has noticed some similarities to what he ran with Burrow at LSU but it's described differently.

"It was a good learning step. We got a lot accomplished but it's the first time learning something new," Chase said. "I learned the new offense, my splits, there's a whole different way in the NFL so we gotta know what the splits are, what the route is so all of that plays a big part."

Chase has already come out and said his goals for the 2021 season are 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns, a feat that certainly won't come close to being accomplished without Burrow. ESPN was a little more reserved in its prediction for Chase's rookie season, thinking more along the lines of 968 yards and six touchdowns, still a very good season.

NFL OTA and minicamps start up on May 24 so the timing couldn't be much better for Burrow and Chase to start building that rapport before then. The Bengals will be must see TV for most LSU fans that want to be taken back to just a little bit of what made that 2019 season so special.

Before the ACL injury in his rookie campaign, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow got off to a hot start, and now that he’s returned, the expectations are high.

Upon arrival, veteran teammate Mike Daniels has always been a fan of the former LSU quarterback and even compared him to his former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.

“You know what I say about Joe Burrow, man. That’s like baby Aaron,” Daniels saidon Good Morning Football.

Daniels spent six seasons with the veteran quarterback in Green Bay, so it’s safe to say he knows his game very well. This also isn’t the first time Daniels has made the comparison.

Just ten days before Burrow went down with the ACL injury, Daniels excitedly made the comparison. The injury never gave him any doubt that Burrow couldn’t return and continue living up to the hype, and now that he’s returned, the excitement still remains.

PHOTOS: Joe Burrow 'all systems go' as Bengals OTAs get rolling

“You don’t see many rookies step into a locker room, and you can tell, you would think he’s a four-year vet if you didn’t know who he was,” Daniels said. “To have that at the quarterback position, that means he has the right type of savvy, the right type of poise that you only see from guys like Aaron. I’ve been saying this since I got there. I see a lot of similarities between the two. I’m just excited to be able to be a part of that, man. The kid’s got a lot to him. He’s got a lot of upside. He’s only going to get better. You talk to Who Dey nation, man, they’re gonna let you know. Joe Burrow is the savior, man! He really is to this organization.”

Burrow is fully expected to be ready for Week 1, and spectators believe how he responds the first time he’s really hit on the field will determine the narrative of his play for the upcoming season.

The Bengals offensive line also has a major assignment of protecting their quarterback this year, and that’s something that was easily noticeable even before the injury.

All-in-all, things are looking up for Burrow’s return, and many are excited to watch him return to the field.

I saw this on a Bengals board, watch this season and see if you think Burrow has a little more mustard on the ball.

Quote

There is a really good article in The Athletic today talking about Jordan Palmer and how he uses technology such as 3d cameras and pressure plates to tweak QB throwing motions. For example, we all read the Joe Burrow has gotten stronger in the core and glutes. Well, that is because they discovered that Joe was throwing from his toes in certain situations. When they were working together before the draft Joe's velocity never measured above 48.5 MPH. Palmer estimates that most NFL QBs throw in the 47-53 mph range so Joe was at the low end of that. After working together, with Joe getting stronger, and fixing the toe push off issue, he was measured consistently at 54mph.

If this work does for Joe what it has done for Josh Allen...holy moly he's gonna go crazy on the field

Leonard Fournette second string on initial Bucs depth chart, after being "playoff Lenny" in their superbowl run.  How does he react?

LF was second string most of the regular season in 2020 after being the bell cow at Jacksonville.  He was not happy, went to see Bruce Arians.  Arians told him he had a different team and a different role, Arians explained how he saw his role and told him he had to figure out if he really wanted to be in Tampa.  LF was on a one year deal, so it all could have changed at the end of the season.  Leonard said Arians made sense and he accepted his role.  Now he's second string again, says he does not care where he is on the depth chart, he just has to be ready to be his best whenever called on.  I guess if they pay you $2 million a year, I could accept that role.

Jamal Adams contract: Seahawks, Pro Bowl safety reportedly reach agreement on four-year, $72 million extension

Why Russell Wilson Needs Duane Brown To Be Happy

The Seattle Seahawks and safety Jamal Adams have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension worth a maximum of $72 million, including $38 million guaranteed, according to reports Tuesday by NFL Network and ESPN. Adams becomes the league’s highest-paid safety with this extension, according toNFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Coming out of LSU in the 2017 NFL Draft, Adams was picked sixth overall by the New York Jets. Adams spent three seasons in New York, where he was named All-Pro twice, made two Pro Bowl rosters and made the All-Rookie Team in his first season. But ahead of his fourth year with the team, Adams began to voice his frustration with the Jets and it was clear he wanted to be traded.

Adams demanded to be traded before the 2020 season, during a contract dispute with the Jets and general manager Joe Douglas and former head coach Adam Gase. It was a long process, but Adams ended up being traded in July 2020, along with a 2022 fourth-round draft pick. In exchange, the Jets got Bradley McDougald, a first- and third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, as well as a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

In his first year with the Seahawks, Adams started and played in 12 games, missing some time due to a groin injury. In those 12 games, Adams recorded 83 tackles, 11 of which were for loss, 9.5 sacks and three pass deflections. Adams was a Second Team All-Pro pick and made the Pro Bowl for the third straight season.

It was clear that the Seahawks benefitted from having Adams on the defense and wanted to bring him back, but the team was struggling to come to an agreement with the safety. Head coach Pete Carrollexplained what the holdup was when asked about the contract situation in late July.

“He’s got some stuff that’s in question,” Carroll said, via Liz Mathews of USA Today. “Shoulder surgery, and he had surgery on both hands, so he’s got some stuff that he would be working anyway. He’s getting work here. He wouldn’t be working yet, so it’s OK at this time right now. He’s out there for the walkthroughs. He’s in the meetings and all that kind of stuff. He’s doing everything.”

Glad to see him get paid.  The problem in NY with the Jets was the Jets were shopping him for a trade and Jamal found out about it.  He was pissed, said he put himself totally on the line for his team, and his loyalty was not repaid by the organization.  Then he demanded a trade.  The Jets were in no hurry, so Jamal went public and insulted the front office and head coach.  Then they had to trade him, quickly.  Jamal is not very smooth, but he is effective.  You put him in a situation where he feels supported and he will play his guts out for you, in this case the Seahawks.  They can see what they have, and he demanded to be paid for what he is, the best safety in the league.  It's not bragging if you can back it up.

I see Patrick Peterson was cut by the Cardinals, he signed a one year deal with the Vikings at $10 million.  I didn't think anyone who got cut could get paid 10 mil.  Word out of Arizona is that Peterson played 10 years there, but his last 2 years were not very productive, he has lost a step.  It happens to everyone, time can't be held back.  Back when Peterson was drafted, there was talk that he was so big for a corner that he would slow down and eventually they would move him to safety.  I wonder what position he plays for the Vikings?  Any way you slice it, an 11 year career in the NFL for a corner is a good career, make a few all pro teams and it has been a great career.

Geez, his wife is an MD!

Antonique Peterson is in the midst of her doctoral residency at a local hospital, and during each ICU shift, she is among those on the front lines battling the coronavirus pandemic.

After work, she returns home to help care for her and Patrick's young children, Paityn and Parker.

"For her to be able to manage all of that," Patrick said, "it's just remarkable."

Peterson admits it's a "very, very stressful time" for his family. Antonique takes serious precautions when she returns home from work.

NFLSU: How former LSU players fared in the NFL’s Week 1

joe-burrow-cincy-2021.jpeg

Joe Burrow is back in form.

Burrow, who missed a bulk of last season with a serious knee injury, threw for 261 yards and two TDs including a 50-yarder to former LSU teammate Ja’Marr Chase in a 27-24 season opening win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

After a rough preseason in which Chase, the Bengals’ No. 1 draft choice in 2021, dropped several passes, he shined in his regular season pro debut. He caught five passes (in seven targets) for 101 yards and his first pro TD.

“I thought he (Chase) was dropping everything,” Burrow cracked to the media as he sat to start his postgame press conference. “I had a couple of guys come up to me before the game and say I hope JaMarr comes to play today.' I said, Don’t worry, it’s Sunday, it’s Gameday, he’s coming to play.”

Burrow said Chase came to him after the touchdown and said he was glad Burrow didn’t overthrow him.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is the NFL’s first Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week this regular season.

The No. 5 overall draft pick put on a show for the Bengals faithful Sunday as he hauled in five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Chase’s 50-yard touchdown strike from Joe Burrow is the longest by a Bengals rookie in their NFL debut, according to the team.

Chase is not the only Bengals taking home some hardware thanks to their Week 1 game.

Rookie kicker Evan McPherson was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Tuesday.

McPherson became the youngest kicker in NFL history to kick a game-winner in OT when he drilled a 33-yard FG to give the Bengals a Week 1 win.

The University of Florida product is also the second rookie kicker to ever convert a FG as time expired in OT.

McPherson’s first career FG, a 53-yarder, was the second-longest in the AFC in Week 1.

The Bengals hit the road in Week 2 to take on a familiar face in Andy Dalton and the Chicago Bears.

NFLSU: How former LSU players fared in the NFL’s Week 2

GrantDelpitBrowns.jpeg Former LSU safety Grant Delpit sparkled in his NFL debut with the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after missing his entire rookie season in 2020 with a torn Achilles.

It took almost 1½ years for former LSU safety Grant Delpit to play in his first NFL game.

Delpit, chosen No. 44 overall in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, missed his entire true rookie season with an Achilles tear.

Then, he was held out of last Sunday’s 2021 opener with a hamstring injury.

But Sunday in a 31-21 Browns’ victory over the Houston Texans, Delpit was turned loose in three-safety sets that included Cleveland starters Ronnie Harrison Jr. and John Johnson III.  He had five tackles (three solo) and he collected his first sack as a pro.

“I thought that was great,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said of Delpit’s sack. “It was good to see from him to get some reps, first time out there playing, to make a big play when we needed it. I thought he did a nice job. We will have to grow that role as we go.”

Delpit got his sack on the Texans’ final drive near the end of the game. He was unblocked on an edge blitz, leveling Texans QB Davis Mills who barely held on to the ball.  Two plays later, the Texans settled for and missed a field goal attempt.

“I’m blessed by God, man,” Delpit said. “It was a great feeling. We got a good win and I’m glad I could contribute to the win.”

Ja'Marr Chase breaks rookie record held by Randy Moss

BySHEA DIXON Sep 26, 3:47 PM

Highlights: Bengals at Steelers

0926-bengals.jpg

One year ago, LSU rookie Justin Jefferson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the NFL Draft. And it paid off right away, with Jefferson setting the NFL rookie record for receiving yards (1,400).

Jefferson also knocked down a handful of Minnesota rookie records - including rookie records for receptions in a season (88) and 100-plus yard games (7) - previously held by Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss.

Now, another former LSU wide receiver is topping a mark Moss set.

In a week three win for the Cincinnati Bengals over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ja'Marr Chase caught a pair of touchdowns to become the youngest player in NFL history to record four or more touchdown catches in his team's first three games of a season. Moss, who was also 21 years old at the time, previously owned the record with three touchdown catches across his first three games as a rookie.

With four touchdowns in three games, Chase is just the third player to accomplish the feat since the merger, joining Eric Green and Martavis Bryant.

In Sunday's win over the Steelers, Chase caught four of his five targets for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Burrow and Chase have now connected on touchdowns in all three games this season, and each week has brought at least one deep ball score (50 yards, 42 yards, 34 yards).

Chase had five catches on seven targets for 101 yards and a touchdown in a week one win over the Minnesota Vikings, and he hauled in two of his four targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in a 20-17 loss to the Chicago Bears a week ago.

Burrow and Chase will be back on the field in a hurry with Cincinnati set to face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. It will be a reunion for a pair of No. 1 overall picks after Burrow and Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence faced off in the National Championship Game, which saw the Burrow to Chase connection flourish as the Tigers capped off a 15-0 season
