Bengals TE, giving props to Joe and Chase!

That is the most fun interview I have seen out of the NFL postgame!  I'm not familiar with the player, but it sounds like he has been with the Bengals a while, when they were not good, and he is ENJOYING being with the team, and he knows it is no longer hopeless.  He credits the new coaching staff, in place 3 years.  About Burrow, he said "he's always the smartest player on the field".  When Joe beat the blitz at LSU, I said it was his intelligence that set him apart, and because he was not taking a lot of classes, he spent his time studying film.  Same thing now, he is apparently putting in the work.  About Chase, he said he's a beast.  He said he doesn't look that fast, but he glides and is faster than it appears.  This TE has a good energy about him, says the whole team chemistry is different.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is right on pace with some of the all-time greats after a hot start to his second pro season.

Burrow, back early on a surgically repaired knee, has completed 72.9 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and four interceptions for the 3-1 Bengals. In the process, he’s called game-winning playsmultiple times and managed to have a second-year leap despite the fact he has yet to even play a full 16 games as a pro.

The fact Burrow has thrown at least two touchdowns in each of his first four starts to begin his sophomore season places him in rare company previously only occupied by Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Kurt Warner:

Stunning, to say the least, never mind those season-long results for the quarterbacks listed.

We’re not ready to say the Bengals as a team are on the trajectory as some of those epic squads. But Burrow? He’s elite, looks better than last year and every bit the franchise quarterback (never mind hometown kid) the Bengals desperately needed to turn this thing around and get back to winning.

NFLSU: How former LSU players fared in the NFL’s Week 4

GreedyJustin.jpeg Former LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson (18) of the Minnesota Vikings catches a pass over former LSU defensive back Greedy Williams (26) in the Browns' 14-7 win on Sunday. (AP Photo/Bruce Kluckhohn)

The last time cornerback Greedy Williams had an interception was in the third quarter of LSU’s 22-21 win at Auburn in 2018.

That is, until Sunday when Williams came up with a huge interception to preserve the Cleveland Browns’ 14-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL’s Week 4.

Williams, a second-round draft choice in 2019, battled injuries in the first two years of his career. He played (and started) 12 games in his rookie season, and then missed all of last season after suffering nerve damage in one of his shoulders.

When Williams returned this season, he had lost his starting job but has been a key on special teams as well as a valued reserve.

On Sunday with the Browns nursing what became their final victory margin, Williams intercepted a pass from Vikings QB Kirk Cousins when Cousins threw deep looking for Minnesota receiver Adam Thielen.

“Getting this opportunity and taking advantage of it is kind of a blessing,” Williams said after Sunday’s game. “Without my support – teammates, family, God — I wouldn’t be here right now.”

Richard Sherman Offers Up Big-Time Praise for Bengals Rookie Ja'Marr Chase

The 21-year-old has been dominant so far this season.

CINCINNATI — Bengals star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase continues to impress in his first NFL season.

The 21-year-old has 27 receptions for 553 yards and five touchdowns so far this season. Chase has caught a pass of 34-yards or more every game this season.

His impressive start has caught the attention of many, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers star cornerback Richard Sherman.

"I think Ja'Marr Chase is the best young receiver in football right now," Sherman said on his podcast.

That's high praise from a Super Bowl champion and a former All-Pro.

Chase's success is a big reason why the Bengals are 4-2 this season.

The Bengals don't play the Buccaneers this season, so the only time Chase would face off against Sherman would be in the Super Bowl.

Randy Moss Knows His Bengals Past And Present And Sees "Magic" In What Could Be NFL's Next Great QB-WR Combo

Rookie Ja'Marr Chase is ahead of everybody but Randy Moss.

Rookie Ja'Marr Chase is ahead of everybody but Randy Moss.

First-ballot Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Randy Moss knows all about the Bengals going back to watching "The Ickey Shuffle," when he was 11 years old growing up in West Virginia.

He can tick off the names like "Munoz," and "Collinsworth," and while he dominated the first decade of the 21st century, he thought overall No. 1 pick Carson Palmer's Heisman Trophy arm and his receiving corps of Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris Henry were among the NFL's most explosive.

"They put on some great shows," Moss recalled Wednesday. "But they were overshadowed by damn Ray Lewis and them (in Baltimore). You got Troy Polamalu and (Ben) Roethlisberger winning Super Bowl championships (in Pittsburgh). The Bengals were good back then, but they were overshadowed by how good the guys in the division were. But guess what? They're in the top of the division."

He also knows about Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, the two guys steering the Bengals into the next chapter of AFC North orange-and-black drama.

"It's good to see the Bengals get another Heisman No. 1 pick," Moss said. "A Fred Biletnikoff winner … They've got a fan base thirsting for these guys, 'To get us over the hump.' … When Palmer and Ocho were playing they were overshadowed by just how good that Black and Blue Division really was. . Now it's just good to see them have some names and they're putting up numbers and being helped led by a rookie in Ja'Marr Chase. That's great to see."

On Wednesday, Moss, now an ESPN analyst, made his biggest impact at Paul Brown Stadium since his 102 yards led the Patriots to a 2007 victory over the Bengals. It worked out just right for the worldwide leader that the NFL's only two rookie receivers to break in with 500 yards and five touchdowns in their first six games sat down for an interview to be seen on Sunday morning's NFL Countdown show to set up Sunday's AFC North showdown (1 p.m.-Cincinnati's Channel 12) in Baltimore.

Chase is the Biletnikoff winner wrecking the league with 553 yards on a torrid 20.5 yards per catch with five touchdowns and is leading the league with five catches of 40-plus yards. Moss, who had 527 yards and six touchdowns when he debuted with the 1998 Vikings, two years before the birth of Chase, is duly impressed with not only Chase, but his Heisman quarterback Burrow.

And thrilled because he's been watching them since they were college teammates with his son, Bengals practice squad tight end Thaddeus Moss, as their LSU offense rolled to a historic 2019 national title.

Best Ja'Marr Chase plays vs. Lions Week 6

"They want to go from that national championship team, as great as they were in history, to put their own stamp on the game. I think that's my son's approach. I think that's Ja'Marr's approach," Moss says. "The biggest thing Ja'Marr told me is it was just great being able to reach the NFL and that was a dream of his and now they're here and you have to be able to take advantage of it. They're showing up and making a lot of people proud."

The 6-0, 200-pound Chase is the physical opposite of the 6-4, 210-pound Moss. Moss brought the NBA to the NFL. Chase is a former running back that has barged into the ranks of the receiving elite with a breathtaking brew of speed and on-a-swivel awareness of the ball in the air.

"Look at how he plays the position," Moss says. "He wants to run after the catch. He's physical. He's not going to let one guy bring him down. That's a great skill set to have when you have all those intangibles being to make yourself complete. I think that's why he's having so much success, being able to understand the game from a running back, being able to make the transition to wide receiver and understanding how to play the position … And he's with a quarterback."

And this is what Moss thinks of the quarterback:

"I love Joe … I know that Joe was an early frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. When I was able to see him live, man, 'That's the Heisman Trophy.'"

Moss is the long and tall end of one of history's most devastating quarterback-receiver combos even though he played just 36 games with Tom Brady. They hooked up for 39 touchdowns and an undefeated regular season during the 10th, 12th and 13th years of Moss' career. He thinks Burrow and Chase can reach similar levels "if they stay focused and hungry."

"They're making it look easy," Moss says. "When you look at the chemistry of 1-2 punches of Montana-Rice, Myself-Brady, Manning-Marvin Harrison, that's the type of company those guys can be in. They had success early before they got to this level and if they really want to zone in and continue to have success and start honing in on their offseasons and their camps and their training camps, the sky's the limit for this offense and guys like that.

"They've already made history in college. It's not like Ja'Marr Chase is getting with Joe Burrow in his sixth or seventh or eighth year in the NFL or vice versa. Joe came in one year, Ja'Marr came in the next year. Keeping these guys together and keeping that magic happening … there are years to come in this combination. If they stay hungry and they just stayed focused, for those guys you're taking about five, 10 plus years together. That's magic."

Bengals offense continues to shine in win over Lions Baldy's Breakdowns

At the moment Moss sees what the PBS faithful saw 10 days ago and calls Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams the league's top combo. But in a year or two, he sees Burrow-Chase in the argument because he saw their passion a few years ago winning it all for LSU.

"They have the skill set to do it and the way their offense is designed and the weapons they have around them and the faith Joe has in Ja'Marr, that could be a great combination for years to come."

Moss says they're making it look easy. Which is funny because that's what they said about Moss back in the day. But Moss knows it wasn't and he sees some of his rookie year in what Chase is doing.

"A guy like Ja'Marr Chase (is) able to go in there as a rookie and make it look smooth and make it look easy," Moss says. "A lot of people were just talking about a lot of things that I was able to do as a rookie like I'd been there before. That's kind of some of the same things I've seen in Ja'Marr. He knows how to play this game. He knows the position."

Moss grew up a Bears fan because of Sir Walter Payton. But there's a familiar Carson-Ocho-Houshmandzadeh buzz around his neighboring Bengals in the week of a game for first place against Ray Lewis' Ravens.

"It's great to see the Bengals competing in the division, ready to compete to win the division," Moss says. "And at the same time the guys that are out there playing, I know those guys. It's rewarding to see."

OBJ is a mess.  Cleveland is releasing him Monday AM.  He can be claimed off waivers on Tuesday, but a team has to have $7 mill of cap room in 2021.  If nobody claims him Tuesday, he will be a free agent and open to a new contract.

I don't know how healthy he is, but he seems a real butthead and problem in the locker room.  That would limit his salary IMO.  He became a problem with the Giants, then a problem with the Browns.  I suspect he would have to accept a lot less than 7 mill a year.  Someone might take him after he cleared waivers for the remainder of this season to see how he is in the locker room, but he'd be a free agent after that.  Talented when healthy, head case.  Fame seemed to go to his head.

Former LSU CB Tre’Davious White suffers season-ending injury

Keith Farner | 3 hours ago

Tre’Davious White learned difficult news on Friday following a knee injury he suffered on Thursday in the Thanksgiving night win over the New Orleans Saints.

White suffered a season-ending torn ACL, the Buffalo Bills reported about the former LSU star. He underwent an MRI Friday morning and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

White is a two-time Pro Bowl selection in his fifth season with the Bills after they drafted him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. White has been a key member of the Bills defense since he joined the team, and will be difficult for the team to replace down the stretch as it begins a playoff push.

Fournette scores 4 TD's in win over Colts.  His highlights come first.  At the end of the game, Brady walks over and shakes LF hand.  LF is the clear starter now.  I remember when LF was cut by Jags, and he signed with the Bucs.  They asked him why the Bucs, and he said because Tom Brady called him and said he liked the way LF ran for the Bucs, and he would like him on the Bucs team.  LF said that was it, if Brady wants you, that is the place to go.  I'm glad to see Leonard having success.

I'll throw this in for free, thread on "Lenny" from a Buc's board:

Ja’Marr Chase makes NFL history again

Despite the struggles, Chase joins a small club in rookie history.

Ja’Marr Chase has flashed his potential all season long for the Cincinnati Bengals, as he continues to try and solidify himself as the true No. 1 receiver on this team.

Despite some struggles with drops over the course of the season, Chase joined a small group of receivers in rookie history with his 77-yard and two-touchdown performance against the San Francisco 49ers this afternoon.

With today’s numbers, Chase becomes the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to have 1,000+ yards and 10+ touchdowns. He joins Odell Beckham Jr. (New York Giants), Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Randy Moss (Minnesota Vikings), and John Jefferson (San Diego Chargers) on the list.

For the season, Joe Burrow has shown he is going to do all he can to get Chase the ball, as the former college teammates obviously still have the chemistry that made them one of the most dynamic duos in college football history.

Chase currently has 60 catches on the season for 1,035 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The biggest room for improvement does come in catch rate. With 98 targets on the season, Chase currently sits at a 61.2 % catch rate, which is right about the league average of 62 percent, according to Football Outsiders.

To continue to grow into that top target for the Bengals for years to come, fans will want to see that number steadily increase as he is averaging 7.5 targets per game.

Overall, Chase has had a solid rookie season, and was in a great spot to be the offensive rookie of the year before Mac Jones and the New England Patriots took off. The Bengals however are right in the middle of a playoff race, and will need Chase to continue to perform down the stretch.

Off to Denver we go.
