LSU had an average player composite ranking of 90.77, which is the 4th highest composite ranking in the SEC.  While we did not sign the volume of players we usually do (a result of the timing of Kelly's hiring), we certainly signed quality players on day 1 of early signing period.

We ain't done yet.

That includes taking a kicker which brings the average way down

Max left and took his brother with him because Kelly told him he was bringing in a transfer and there would be an open competition in the spring.

Their chests caved in and they left. Now he'll likely ride the pine at TAMU as their original starter from this past season will be back from injury.

This is probably true, as it is about the only thing that makes sense.  But.....

I did some looking at who he will be competing with at aTm.

--------------------

There starter last year for the first game was soph. Haynes King.  He fractured his lower leg and was out for the year, will not play in their bowl game either.  Found this:

"4* - Long-framed, athletic quarterback with true dual-threat ability. Grew two inches from sophomore to junior year. Lean, sinewy build, but terrific frame space and big hands. Outstanding athlete who runs the 400, the 4x400 relay, and throws the discus. Also plays basketball. Flashes big-play top-end speed in the read game. Perhaps at his best throwing on the run. Very accurate on the move and throws with impressive touch. Has shown terrific ball placement even when throwing across body on the run. Extends plays with his athleticism. Plays with calm, poised demeanor. Coach's kid with high football IQ. Fierce competitor. Dangerous on the run but will stand in the pocket and deliver under duress if required. Shows above-average arm strength, but can improve overall throwing power -"

If he takes a medical redshirt, he'll have 3 years left.  A lot of the discussion above, he sounds like a better athlete than Max.  Anyone who can run the 400 meters is a stud IMO.  It's the longest true sprint, all out for 400 meters, not many folks can do that well.  Anyone can sprint for 100 or 200, that 400 is a killer.

----------------

This is who they signed yesterday:

Conner Weigman, QB, 5*, 0.9901 Composite, #19 Natl, #2 QB

"Adequate height with a stout, athletic build. High-level natural athlete who is an elite baseball prospect. Loose, live arm transfers to passing ability on the gridiron. Displays impressive release quickness with requisite vertical arm strength to consistently stretch the field. Increasingly dangerous in off-schedule situations. Natural playmaker whose functional athleticism allows for scrambling ability that leads to chunk yardage or accurate throws while on the move. Shows short-area foot quickness to evade rushers. Also flashes legitimate big-play speed as a runner. "

----------------------

I am certainly not sure that Max has an appreciably better chance to beat out both of those guys, than his chance to beat out Nuss, Walker Howard, and a transfer at LSU.  His decision making process does not look all that clear to me.

Now if BK told him he requires a true dual threat QB, and Max knows now he is not part of LSU's plan, then he would have to transfer.  That's a different deal.

Sometimes ya just gotta trust your gut.

Per Geaux247:

"

On Thursday, Myles Brennan announced that he was removing his name from the portal and would return to LSU for his final season of eligibility in 2022. Brennan, who missed the entire 2021 season after an injury suffered just before fall camp, had entered his name into the transfer portal in November."
