In this story:

Following Sunday’s 22–18 road win over the Patriots, the Bengals encountered a frightening, unexpected interruption on their flight back to Cincinnati.

The team’s plane from Boston was reportedly re-routed due to a “failing engine,”  according to Mark Slaughter of Cincinnati’s WLWT-NBC. The Athletic’s Paul Dehner later confirmedthe incident resulted in the flight making an emergency landing at JFK International Airport in New York City to allow the team to switch planes.

“A little rough but it was okay! Landed safely,” said an unidentified passenger on the flight, per Slaughter.

WLWT also reported Cincinnati’s flight landed at JFK around 8:45 p.m. local time, with the new flight reportedly departing NYC around 9:30 p.m.

Although the emergency diversion added quite a scare to the day, Saturday was an otherwise positive day for the Bengals as the club notched its eighth consecutive win in a close victory over an old AFC foe.

With an eventful Christmas Eve now behind them, the Bengals (11–4) will get to enjoy Christmas and a much-needed Sunday off before bringing in the new year with a huge Monday Night Football matchup against the Bills (12–3) on Jan. 2.

It is Super Wild Card Weekend and the college that has the most players on NFL Playoff Team rosters is none other than the LSU Tigers. The Tigers lead the way with 27 former LSU players on NFL playoff rosters.

The list of participants include 24 players that are on active rosters and three more players that are on injured reserve.

Headlining the list is former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow, who is the star quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who leads the NFL in catches (128) and yards (1,809).

Burrow and his sidekick Ja’Marr Chase will look to lead the Bengals to back to back Super Bowls as they begin their playoff march against former LSU linebacker Patrick Queen and the Baltimore Ravens.

The most intriguing NFL matchup featuring former LSU players is between the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins as the playoff game will feature two former Tiger long snappers as brothers Reid (Buffalo Bills) and Blake (Miami Dolphins) will play against each other. The Ferguson brothers were LSU long snappers for eight consecutive years.

That's an impressive list!!!  I heard an announcer on Saturday say that Justin Jefferson is the best receiver in the league.  I wonder how close he thinks JaMar Chase is to the top?  He was hurt a little this season, so his numbers may be down.  I also heard that teams have decided they will not let Chase beat them, so he is usually double covered now.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The Bengals will roll out a parade of riches on offense again next year. The challenge is keeping all that talent together for the duration of quarterback Joe Burrow’s “championship window.”

Burrow, who has said he wants to stay in Cincinnati his “whole career,” appears to be taking that into consideration.

“Joe knows how he wants to set up his contract to keep his weapons around him,” Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase said on the NFL Network’s Wednesday Super Bowl Live show.

Gonzales Weekly Citizen

Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid, who attended Dutchtown High School in Ascension Parish, celebrates following the Jan. 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Former Dutchtown High School star Justin Reidwill play in Super Bowl LVII Feb. 12 as a starting safety for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl with a 23-20 winover former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC championship game. The Philadelphia Eagles handled the San Francisco 49ers in a 31-7 victory in the NFC title game.

A fifth-year NFL safety, Reid joined the Chiefs after signing March 18, 2022. He entered the league in the 2018 NFL Draft as the fourth pick of the third round (68th overall) for the Houston Texans, after playing collegiately at Stanford University in California.

A native of Prairieville, he is the son of Eric Reid Sr. and Sharon Reid.

His older brother, Eric Reid Jr., also attended Dutchtown High School before going on to star at LSU. He was selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the 49ers.

Eric Reid Sr. is a former three-time All-American hurdler at LSU, an NCAA champion and school-record holder in the 110-meter hurdles and a member of the LSU Hall of Fame.

Interesting notes about Justin Reid

  • Aside from starting on the defensive side, Reid has shown his ability as a placekicker. In a Chiefs preseason game, Reid kicked an extra point. He also kicked off three times during the 2021 preseason while playing for the Texas. During practice, he connected on a 65-yard kick.
  • His charity, the J. Reid Indeed Foundation, supports disadvantaged youth and communities through programs, community engagement, and technology access.
  • Reid will be among five Louisiana standouts to play in the Super Bowl. The rosters include: DeVonta Smith (Amite), Boston Scott (Zachary and Louisiana Tech), Clyde Edwards-Helaire (Baton Rouge and LSU), L’Jarius Sneed (Minden and Louisiana Tech), and Patrick Johnson (Tulane).
