Really? The guy spent over 6 years at LSU. Took him 6 years to quit?

He's quitting before the season starts.  He would most likely get to play some if he stayed.  He also put himself in to the portal last year.  So yea - he's quitting on his teammates.

he’s 48 years old and was going to be no higher than 3rd in depth chart.

barring injuries, no way he would get any more than a courtesy snap or two on Senior day.

he’s moving on with life outside of football.

We can go through 100 names that have moved on during the same period of time, Myles has been here. He’s given way more time and effort to LSU. It’s not even close.

He was at practice the other day, helping Walker Howard, with a few things. Helping another QB get better, at his same position?

LSU OUARTERBACK MYLES BRENNAN STEPS AWAY
FROM FOOTBALL
BATON ROUGE - LSU quarterback Myles Brennan has decided to
end his college football career, he announced on Monday.
"We are grateful to Myles for everything he has done for LSU
Football.," LSU coach Brian Kelly said. "Myles is a great leader who
has made a tremendous impact on this program, and he has earned the
respect of everyone here through his commitment and love for LSU.
"Myles has always embodied the traits required to fulfill our mission
to graduate champions, and we have full confidence those traits will
help him succeed at every step in his journey as he moves forward."
Brennan, who was entering his sixth year with the Tigers, finishes his
LSU career having played in 20 games with three starts. He started
the first three games of the 2020 season before an injury against
Missouri sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
Brennan then suffered a season-ending arm injury just days before
LSU reported for training camp a year ago. He caps his career having
thrown for 1,712 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Brennan graduated from LSU in May of 2021 with a degree in sports
administration.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - There was a noticeable absence from LSU’s football practice on Monday, Aug. 15, as sixth-year quarterback Myles Brennan was not in attendance and is stepping away from football, according to the university.

LSU confirmed Brennan has decided to end his college football career.

“We are grateful to Myles for everything he has done for LSU football,” said head coach Brian Kelly. “Myles is a great leader who has made a tremendous impact on this program, and he has earned the respect of everyone here through his commitment and love for LSU.”

Jordy Culotta of The Jordy Culotta Show reported the following before the announcement became official:

The Tigers are now left with redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier, Arizona State transfer and junior Jayden Daniels, along with true freshman Walker Howard in the quarterback room. Nussmeier and Daniels are competing for the starting spot.

Brennan had been with the Tiger program since 2017 but has only played sparingly, including three starts at the beginning of the 2020 season before an injury cost him the remainder of the year.

Last summer, Brennan was competing with Max Johnson for the starting spot but an off-the-field injury then forced him to be sidelined for the entire season.

Brennan graduated from LSU in May of 2021 with a degree in sports administration.

Max Johnson quit the team. Eli Ricks quit the team.  That list goes on and on and on.

Myles Brennan gave his heart out to LSU. He did not quit.  He's a Tiger through and through.

He has a remote shot to make an NFL team as a UDFA...if he's interested in continuing his football journey, I'm sure LSU would welcome him to perform for NFL scouts at LSU's Pro Day.

He's done with football. Honestly his heart just wasn't in it anymore. I believe if it was he could've won the job.

He's got his degree, is engaged to be married, and I have to think the injury against Missouri was considered. He basically had his core ripped in half.

Definitely not a quitter though. He finished that Missouri game with what should've been a career ending injury and passed for 430 yards, still trying to do QB sneaks at the end.

Technically I guess that was the career ender. He never played again.

What a journey it has been…. I have
given my all to this university and
football team. I love every one of
you. I will be a tiger for life. 15 is
officially signing out. #ForeverLSU.

Tiger Nation,
Over the last five years, I have alven all of my body, heart, and soul to LSU Football. Playing
for LSU has been a dream come true. Wearing the purple and gold, running into Death Valley,
winning a national championship, and starting at quarterback for the LSU TIgers -what more
could a kld ask for? I will never forget the time I've spent and the memorles I have made here.
To the players who have sulted up alongside me; to the coaches who recrulted, signed, and
developed me; to the training staff who has cared for me; to the support staff who has
provided everything I needed to compete at the hlghest level and continue my education;
and to the fans who cheered for me every step of the way: thank you.
I want to say thank you to the student body, the administration, and the entire LSU fan base
for all your tremendous support over the last five years. I will never forget my time in Baton
Rouge. I love LSU and all our fans,
I am forever grateful for every opportunity I've been given, every obstacle I've overcome,
and every second I've been a Tiger. However, after five seasons, It Is time for me to start a
new chapter in my llfe, I am announcing today that I will be stepping away from football. I
am thankful for where this Journey has taken me so far, and I am looking forward to where it
takes me next.

One thing to consider is that Brennan may still have lingering effects from when tore his abdomen muscles and it was apparent he was not going to bounce back 100% so the coaches advised him to walk away from football.

A silver lining is that this frees up another scholarship. Remember that there is no "annual 25 scholarship limit" this year, just the hard cap of 85 total scholarships. I'm not sure where we stand there but I think we have plenty of top room.

Some recruits LSU is in hot pursuit of:

  • Javien Toviano - 4 star CB (more likely Texas or Texas A&M will land him but HB7 is trying to woo him to LSU)
  • Bravion Rogers - 4 star CB (recently de-committed from Texas A&M)
  • Khai Preen - 4 star ATH (RB/WR/DB/PR) from St. James
  • Zalance Heard - 5 star OT (former teammate of Will Campbell

We have the scholarship room to theoretically sign all 4 and still have leftovers. We are in a great position to get the last 2, might get 3, and have an outside shot at getting all 4.

that scholarship was freeing up anyway for next class.

he's exhausted all 286 years of eligibility he had

I thought about something this weekend that has not been mentioned.  I view it as a positive for BK and his staff.

The easy decision at QB would be to start Brennan.  He's a sixth year Sr. and he has been loyal to LSU and a good teammate.  He didn't make a scene when the reigns were handed to Burrow, he waited his turn.  I think he was a fan favorite because he was a good teammate.

What we fans have always wanted was a coach that could unemotionally and without favoritism, pick the best QB that gave us a chance to win games.  I have a little more faith in BK and Denbrock than I did under Les Miles or O.

Another thing I heard a few times is that when Brennan entered the portal, there was not a lot of interest from the bigger more powerful programs.  He finally decided his best option was to stay at LSU and try to win the job.  I still think he has the better passing arm, but Denbrock likes a mobile QB, and Brennan is not that.

I wonder if he will stay in shape, maybe work with a QB coach, and give it a try in an NFL camp?  Or is he really done with football like he said?
