LSUDad Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Source: Yanks add free agent DJ LeMahieu By Andrew Simon | January 11th, 2019 The Yankees have added yet another piece to their talented infield. New York agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract with free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu on Friday afternoon, a source confirmed to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The agreement is pending a physical, and the club has not confirmed. LeMahieu was one of the top second basemen available on a free-agent market that was crowded at that position. The two-time All-Star was a three-time Gold Glove Award winner in his seven seasons with the Rockies, including in 2018. It now seems that, barring a trade, the Yankees would not have room for free agent Manny Machado. In addition to LeMahieu, the club has Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar and LeMahieu's former double-play partner in Colorado, Troy Tulowitzki. Shortstop Didi Gregorius also is slated to return sometime during the 2019 season after recovering from Tommy John surgery. As for LeMahieu, he is a career .298/.350/.406 hitter, although there will be questions about his splits after his years with the Rockies. LeMahieu's .835 career OPS at home towers over his .673 mark on the road. The 30-year-old earned the National League batting title by hitting .348 in 2016. However, his offensive numbers did drop in each of the past two seasons, with LeMahieu batting .276/.321/.428 in '18, with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 128 games.
