LSUDad
“It’s really unfortunate news for LSU and Maason Smith… The standout defensive tackle will miss the rest of the season with torn ACL. He will have surgery in a few weeks, according to multiple sources,” explained Boudwin. Smith left the game during their first defensive series after jumping in the air and landing awkwardly on his left leg, and did not return to the game. Smith was seen on crutches on the sideline in the second half, and coach Brian Kelly explained after the game that he would require an MRI. The results of his further examination were not good, as he will now miss the remainder of the year with a torn ACL.
LSUDad
Smith was the highest rated recruit from LSU’s 2021 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus Player Rankings. Smith was the highest-rated prospect in the state of Louisiana, and the No. 11 ranked recruit in the nation. In his freshman year with the Tigers, Smith recorded 19 tackles — including five for a loss and four sacks. Smith appeared in nine games during 2021 and started in four of them, but missed the end of the season with a leg injury. Just as he was poised to make a strong return, his season is over before it really begins.
houtiger
Darn!!! It looked as minor of a move as OBJ's in the Super Bowl. They need to find a safer type of turf. Too many seasons cut short by that stuff. Edited September 5, 2022 by houtiger
