will probably move some of the discussion from the "Games of Interest" thread to this one.

while not directly, some of these changes will potentially affect LSU.
either it being a future opponent, or maybe a poaching of our assistants, etc.

so fired FBS coaches (so far)

Scott Frost - Nebraska
Herm Edwards - Arizona State
Geoff Collins - Georgia Tech
Paul Chryst - Wisconsin
Karl Dorrell - Colorado

and of course there will be others.

Put this one right here.

John Cohen is officially hired as Auburn’s new athletics director, according to a report from Jon Sokoloff of WCBI, which followed several earlier reports that the deal was imminent.

Cohen, who has been the AD at MSU since November of 2016, would take over for Allen Greene, who left Auburn in late August. Prior to that, he was the Bulldogs’ head baseball coach from 2009-16. Greene stepped down with 5 months remaining on his initial 5-year deal, and was perhaps most remembered for his hire of Bryan Harsin.

pray he goes somewhere other than Auburn,

I saw in an article, they said Rhule is too smart to get mixed up in the Auburn internal politics.  Said he won't go there.  Which brings up the question, who will?  Reports some of the players who left via the portal said they were treated "like dogs".  20 players left via the portal since Harsin arrived.  Looks like he had to go.

A couple early names, Kiffin and Hugh Freezer!

Wonder if their roster is down to 39 players?

Auburn is in the midst of paying $44.175 million for two head coaches and one staff of assistants to NOT coach Auburn football right now.

well the Gus contract was apparently colossally stupid.

the buyout was fully guaranteed and not offset by him getting a new job.
so he’s getting the $21 million from Auburn on top of whatever UCF is paying him now.

Auburn is looking for another coach after it parted ways with Bryan Harsin. The potential names to replace him are some of the biggest in college football, and certainly household names around the SEC.

While the Opelika-Auburn News has come out with 22 candidates, nationally, the names often discussed are Liberty’s Hugh Freeze, and Jackson State’s Deion Sanders, along with Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin. Other more dark-horse type names could be Matt Rhule, who was recently fired from the Carolina Panthers, or Dave Aranda of Baylor.

Freeze last week signed a contract extension at Liberty which would pay him $5 million per season for 8 years, ESPN reported. Meanwhile, in recent interviews with 60 Minutes and ESPN, Sanders has said he would listen about openings for Power 5 jobs, and he was most interested in how he could elevate the pay for his assistants.

Here are all the names mentioned by the Opelika-Auburn News:

Doug Elk, Houston defensive coordinator
Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina coach
Liam Coen, Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator
Josh Gattis, Miami offensive coordinator
Alex Golesh, Tennessee offensive coordinator
Jeff Grimes, Baylor offensive coordinator
Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State coach
Charles Kelly, Alabama defensive assistant
Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss coach
Rhett Lashlee, SMU coach
Mike Leach, Mississippi State coach
Jeff Lebby, O

klahoma offensive coordinator
Lance Leipold, Kansas coach
Dell McGee, Georgia running backs coach
Todd Monken, Georgia offensive coordinator
Will Muschamp, Georgia co-defensive coordinator
Bill O’Brien, Alabama offensive coordinator
Matt Rhule, former Carolina Panthers coach
Travaris Robinson, Alabama cornerbacks coach
Deion Sanders, Jackson State coach
Mark Stoops, Kentucky coach
Travis Williams, UCF defensive coordinator
