LSU-Florida State game identified as most-anticipated matchup of 2023 by ESPN analyst

LSU-Florida State could be one of the best games of the 2023 college football season.

The teams will meet in Orlando on Sunday of Week 1 with both programs facing high expectations. The Noles and Tigers each won 10 games in 2022 and could feature in the top 5 of preseason polls later this year.

There’s also the revenge factor for LSU, as Florida State won the 2022 meeting between these 2 teams thanks to a blocked extra point at the end of regulation.

ESPN’s Chris Low explained why he’s most excited about LSU-Florida State in 2023:

Get ready for some serious hype surrounding both Florida State and LSU heading into next season, and they open the season against each other in what should be a top-10 matchup on Sept. 3 in Orlando, a Sunday game that will get a ton of exposure. The Seminoles haven’t won an ACC championship since 2014, and this could be their best chance to end that drought, especially with quarterback Jordan Travis and defensive end Jared Verse, one of the country’s top pass-rushers, returning. LSU played in the SEC championship game in Brian Kelly’s first season in Baton Rouge. The Tigers return starting quarterback Jayden Daniels and a ton of young talent, including dynamic outside linebacker Harold Perkins Jr., and will be looking for even more in 2023.

Both LSU and Florida State return their starting quarterbacks and have College Football Playoff aspirations going into next year. However, a Week 1 loss could end — or severely limit — those dreams for either program.

Florida State is 8-2 all-time against LSU. The Tigers’ last victory in this series came back in 1982.

FSU used to frustrate the hell out of me when we played them in the 80s. Bowden had our number and LSU was sliding into our dark ages for football.

We never really got to play them much when we were a better team. Revenge is definitely on my mind.
