Where LSU's athletics department ranked nationally in terms of revenue in 2022

College athletics have become a big-money enterprise.

With television rights deals totaling billions of dollars, there is certainly a lot of money to be made at the top programs. And as one of the most prominent athletics departments in the country (especially when it comes to the cash cow that is football), LSU brings in a ton of annual revenue.

USA TODAY Sports recently released revenue and expense figures for 2022, and according to its database, the Tigers ranked sixth nationally in total revenue at roughly $199.3 million. That total ranks behind only Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Michigan and Georgia.

Note that this data is not available for most private schools.

According to the USA TODAY Sports database, LSU had $192.8 million in expenses during 2022, which ranked fifth. The Tigers’ athletics department also transferred nearly $5 million to the school.

You have to think that ND might actually lead the pack since they have an exclusive TV deal with NBC. I am pretty sure they spend way less of that amount on athletics, though.

their TV deal isn't a very good one though.

they get around $25 mill per year for it.
the SEC pays out closer to $50 mil per school
