LSUDad
LSU star defensive tackle Maason Smith will not play in the Tigers' season opener Sept. 3 against Florida State because of a one-game NCAA suspension, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told The Advocate on Wednesday. The NCAA determined Smith received an improper benefit, sources said. Although Smith cooperated with an investigation, sources said, the NCAA ruled him out for the first game. He can return Week 2 for the home opener against Grambling. Without Smith, No. 5 LSU will miss one of its best defensive players against the No. 8 Seminoles in the only top 10 matchup of opening weekend. Hatchertiger
The "story" is that he and Kayshon signed some autographs before NIL went "live" whatever that means.

houtiger
This is absurd! What did Maason get, like $500? Livvy Dunne would not even stoop down to pick that up. Bryce Young made $1 mil a year on NIL. I think the time has come for the SEC and Big 10 to form their own super conference and govern themselves. The NCAA does not seem reasonable, nor to even play an effective role. Boot the NCAA for doing stupid shyte.
houtiger
Moving past the absurdity. Is it possible that Maason is not ready to go anyway, because of his ankle sprain? It may work out well for Maason for the rest of the season. Who will play DT in his place? Probably Jacobian Gillory, a RS Jr. who has played in 20+ games, he's 320 lbs., I think was told to lose some weight from last year and he did. I heard he is a bit more nimble now. Also Jordan Jefferson, transfer from W. Virginia, he's a 320 lb. Sr and he has played in 20+ games. We're not going to have to play true freshmen like we had to do at offensive tackle last year. There are some younger guys coming up, but let's hope we don't need them week 1.

LSUDad
LSU will be without star defensive tackle Maason Smith for its top-10 season opening showdown against Florida State, but not for lack of effort on the part of the Tigers. Smith was suspended for one game by the NCAA over impermissible benefits stemming from a summer 2021 autograph signing. The program filed an appeal of the one-game suspension with the NCAA but was denied, with the NCAA noting that there would not be a grandfather clause extended to Smith. Not only that, but LSU also attempted to look into scheduling a Week Zero game so that Smith could serve his one-game suspension then, rather than against Florida State, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger. They simply couldn’t make the logistics work in time. “We looked at all the options out there, certainly, and wanted to make sure that we examined everything that was possible,” coach Brian Kelly told Yahoo! Sports. “We looked at everything. We looked at a Week Zero game to bring in another opponent prior to Florida State. We looked at every imaginable option, but time ran out.”
