...

The LSU Tigers got a great Christmas present, landing a commitment from a 5-star 2020 cornerback out of California.

After landing top CB Derek Stingley for the 2019 class, the Tigers added No. 1 2020 CB Elias Ricks on Christmas Day.

As you can see below, the talented California native announced his decision via Twitter on Christmas afternoon:

Per the 247Sports composite, Ricks is the No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2020 and the No. 3 overall recruit from the state of California.

The Tigers now have nine players in their 2020 class, which currently ranks No. 2 in the nation and No. 2 in the SEC, behind only Alabama, per the 247Sports composite.

Below, check out some of Ricks’s junior-year highlights, courtesy of Hudl:

Top-ranked junior cornerback Elias Ricks commits to LSU

Elias Ricks, the top-ranked cornerback prospect in the 2020 class, committed to LSUon Christmas Day.

Ricks, a 6-foot-2 defensive back out of Santa Ana, California, chose the Tigers over offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC and a number of the other top programs in the country.

He is the top-ranked recruit among the eight commitments LSU has received from juniors thus far. He is the No. 16 overall recruit in the ESPN Junior 300.

"I have made my pledge," Ricks wrote on social media. "This is Elias Ricks. And I will be committing to the Louisiana State University. Thank you all and have a Merry Christmas. Geaux Tigers."

LSU has also landed the No. 2 cornerback in the 2019 class, Derek Stingley Jr. from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, potentially creating one of the country's more formidable secondaries in the years to come.

5-star QB visits LSU Fiesta Bowl practice

BySHEA DIXON 9 hours ago

LSU put in another afternoon on the practice field on Saturday in Arizona as the Tigers prepare for Tuesday’s 2019 PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, where they will face off against UCF at 12 p.m. CST on ESPN.

At Saturday’s practice, the LSU staff welcomed in a special guest to get a closer look at how the program works through a New Year’s Six bowl stretch.

California 5-star DJ Uiagalelei, the No. 1 pro-style quarterback prospect in the country for the 2020 class, made the trip from Bellflower, California to the Phoenix area to see the Tigers - who were now a good bit closer to his own neck of the woods.

Uiagalelei has already made an unofficial visit to LSU, and the Tigers are one of 30 teams who have offered the high school junior a scholarship. At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Uiagalelei is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 7 overall prospect in the country, regardless of position.

Fans will notice a recent trend for the Tigers in the 2020 class, with LSU bringing Uiagalelei in to watch practice just days after California five-star Elias Ricks committed to the program for next year’s class. Ricks is ranked just two spots behind Uiagalelei on the 247Sports Composite, and just one spot behind him in the California state rankings.

Ricks said this week that he would be at the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday to watch the Tigers in action, and he added that Uiagalelei is one of the 2020 prospects he hopes to bring with him from California to Louisiana for college.

The St. John’s Bosco standout recorded a 5.15 40-yard dash, a 4.53 shuttle and a 32.20-inch vertical jump at The Opening’s regional event in March. LSU area recruiter Bill Busch made stops at his high school in both the spring and fall evaluation periods, most recently visiting California earlier this month before the NCAA’s dead period kicked in ahead of the Early Signing Period.

The Tigers have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country for 2020, a group that includes two four-star quarterback commitments in Louisiana’s TJ Finley and Georgia’s Max Johnson. No matter, it’s evident the Tigers will keep swinging for the fences at the quarterback spot.

Stay tuned to Geaux247 for Uiagalelei’s reaction from his time at LSU’s practice on Saturday.

Take Two: Could LSU go back-to-back with No. 1 prospects?

LSU has signed the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class as five-star cornerback

, is already on campus in Baton Rouge and reportedly doing well.

The Tigers are have already turned to the 2020 recruiting class and there’s at least a decent chance that Ed Orgeron and his staff could pull off a feat never accomplished in the Rivals.com era dating back to 2002 - signing the top-ranked prospect in back-to-back recruiting cycles.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star cornerback

, ranked fourth nationally at this point, is already committed to LSU. No. 1   has Clemson and Oregon out in front but LSU is making a push and the Tigers have intrigued the Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco recruit. The SEC power is also a major contender for No. 2 overall prospect   from Houston (Texas) North Shore.

It has never happened before but LSU has already locked up Stingley and is going after many of the top-rated prospects in the 2020 class. Can Orgeron and his staff do something Nick SabanUrban Meyer and other coaches have not been able to pull off by getting back-to-back- No. 1 recruits?

FIRST TAKE: SAM SPIEGELMAN, TIGERDETAILS.COM

“LSU has positioned itself nicely to not only land the potential No. 1 player in America, but nab an out-of-state target as well. Ricks, a five-star cornerback, is an early pledge. Should he stick with his LSU pledge, there’s a decent chance he could wind up as Rivals’ top player.

"Despite having two quarterbacks on board, five-star Uiagalelei is still strongly considering the Tigers. Should

or   reopen their recruitments, Uiagalelei has a chance to fall into LSU’s class. Evans is another prospect gunning for the top spot, and LSU is squarely in the mix with the Texas blue-chipper in addition to the in-state schools. He’ll make a decision next February and LSU has a strong chance to land his commitment.

“After signing Derek Stingley, Jr., who is already turning heads in Baton Rouge, LSU has a legitimate chance to sign the top prospect in consecutive years. Certain dominoes need to fall accordingly, but unlike a lot of other elite programs, Orgeron’s club has put itself in the best position to make it a reality.”

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“It’s a little early to tell. Uiagalelei is at the top and he’ll be near the top until the end barring any regression. Evans, the running back out of Texas, is special and he could be No. 1. I like the top of this class, including Ricks. He’s definitely a talented kid, but having back-to-back corners would be rare for us. That’s not working against him. If he’s the best player that’s where we’re going to rank him.

“LSU has a chance with Uiagalelei as well. They could get the back-to-back No. 1 guy in either one of those California guys and maybe Evans, too.”

TJ Finley set to enroll early

BySHEA DIXON 2 hours ago

The LSU football program has nine commitments for the 2020 class, checking in just behind Alabama as the No. 2 recruiting class in the country on 247Sports.

Among the nine commitments are two quarterbacks, which is the earliest the Tigers have landed a pair of signal callers at this stage in their process in recent memory.

Ponchatoula (La.) four-star quarterback TJ Finley committed to LSU in May, shutting things down and choosing to remain in-state with the Tigers as part of the 2020 class. He held double-digit scholarship offers at the time.

Then came a commitment from Georgia four-star Max Johnson in late November, which gave the Tigers not only two four-star commitments, but pledges from two of the top nine pro-style quarterbacks on the 247Sports Composite rankings.

On Monday, Finley shared the news that he was now on track to graduate in December 2019, meaning he would be able to enroll early at the college he signs with that month. That would put Finley on a college campus just one year from now, which would allow him to be a full participant in spring workouts and practices, giving him a leg up on the rest of the class before their arrival in June 2020.

At 6-foot-6 and 233 pounds, Finley is coming off a junior season at Ponchatoula where he 2,736 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions while hitting on 158-of-333 pass attempts. He added 97 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Over the past two seasons, Finley has thrown for 4,619 yards, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 273-of-556 attempts.

At the All-American Bowl combine in San Antonio this month, Finley checked in with 9.75-inch hands and a 79.50-inch wingspan.

Early 2020 Recruiting Rankings...

College football's Top 25 recruiting classes for 2020, thus far

ByBRAD CRAWFORD Feb 9, 12:46 PM

Could Alabama land college football's top-ranked recruiting class for the ninth time in 10 years in 2020?

It's early, but as the recruiting calendar turned over for the next cycle after National Signing Day last week, the Crimson Tide are off to an extremely hot start.

Recruiting is a relentless beast and we're 10 months out from the Early Signing Period, the NCAA's latest update to college football's calendar. Coaches are already back to work on the next cycle and are pounding the road prior to spring practice hoping to gain attention from some of the nation's elite players who haven't yet announced.

Who is burning the midnight oil and putting in the most work thus far for 2020, you ask?

According to our 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, here's a look at which teams have gotten an early start on the 2020 cycle and where they come in nationally compared to others:

1. ALABAMA (10 COMMITS)

8708838.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Mark Brennan, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players (per 247Sports Composite): Chris Braswell, WDE, Baltimore, Md. (5-star, No. 19 overall in 247Sports Composite); Jayson Jones, DT, Calera, Ala. (4-star, No. 40 overall); Malachi Moore, CB, Trussville, Ala. (4-star, No. 105 overall)

What they're saying: 247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Dohn has watched Braswell up close and had this to say in his scouting report (VIP): "Braswell is from the same school as Crimson Tide freshman Eyabi Anoma, and the skill sets are extremely similar. Braswell is about two inches shorter than Anoma was in high school, but he has time to grow a bit and also offers great length. He has the frame to easily carry 240 pounds, but could be effective as a 230-pound outside linebacker.

"His athleticism is comparable to that of Anoma. In watching him play last month against Oakdale (Conn.) St. Thomas More, he is ridiculously quick off the snap, he has the bend to dip his shoulder to get around the edge and accelerate into the backfield. He is flexible and his change of direction is tremendous, but it is his speed off the edge that is so overwhelming."

2. LSU (9 COMMITS)

8664340.JPG?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Rusty Mansell, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Elias Ricks, CB, Santa Ana, Calif (5-star, No. 9 overall); Darin Turner, WR, Memphis, Tenn. (4-star, No. 60 overall); Kayshon Boutte, WR, New Iberia, La. (4-star, No. 66 overall); Max Johnson, Pro-QB, Watkinsville, Ga. (4-star, No. 69 overall)

What they're saying: The nephew of Miami coach Mark Richt and son of former NFL QB Brad Johnson, Max Johnson attends the same high school as former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger, where he was part of the 2009 class. Johnson was on LSU's campus in November for an unofficial visit, making a Friday to Sunday stay for the home game vs. Rice. He later verbally committed to OC Steve Ensminger.

3. MIAMI (9 COMMITS)

8663934.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Don Chaney Jr., RB, Miami (No. 50 overall); Bryan Robinson, WR, West Palm Beach (4-star, No. 81 overall); Samuel Anaele, SDE, Opa Locka, Fla. (4-star, No. 117 overall); Dominic Mammarelli, TE, Naples, Fla. (4-star, No. 134 overall)

What they're saying: Robinson committed to the Hurricanes after Miami's Paradise Camp last summer. "I feel like it's the best decision for me," Robinson told 247Sports. "I knew that for a while, but I just didn't make a commitment and make it official until [Saturday night]. There's nothing not to like about Miami. I love everything about Miami." Robinson (6-0, 175) caught 29 passes for 493 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore. He originally picked top his offer from the Hurricanes back in February and was on campus in late March for a spring practice.

4. OHIO STATE (7 COMMITS)

Title/Alt Text(Photo: SLM Photography, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Cincinnati, Ohio (5-star, No. 6 overall); Luke Wypler, OC, Montvale, N.J. (4-star, No. 35 overall); Jack Miller, Pro-QB, Scottsdale, Ariz. (4-star, No. 65 overall)

What they're saying: Miller committed to the Buckeyes last summer and feels confident in his decision. “It was me feeling super comfortable with coach (Urban) Meyer, coach (Ryan) Day, pretty much the whole staff,” Miller said when asked why he picked Ohio State. “I’ve built a great relationship with them. It was like every single visit I went on I compared to Ohio State to see how it matched up. Ohio State had set the bar really high.” The 6-foot-4 and 210-pound Miller had a very impressive list of offers that also included Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, South Carolina, Auburn, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Ole Piss, Florida State, North Carolina, Memphis and Texas A&M before he decided to become a Buckeye.

5. CLEMSON (7 COMMITS)

8844695.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Cory Fravel, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Demonte Capehart, DT, Hartsville, S.C. (4-star, No. 49 overall); Tre Williams, DT, Washington D.C. (4-star, No. 96 overall);Sergio Allen, ILB, Ft. Valley, Ga. (4-star, No. 136 overall); Paul Tchio, OT, Alpharetta, Ga. (4-star, No. 150 overall)

What they're saying: Tchio committed to Clemson in November. Alabama was regarded the favorite to land Tchio until earlier this fall when things shifted in Clemson's favor. Tchio visited for the N.C. State game in October and most recently visited for the South Carolina game on Saturday. Tchio combines with four-star Clemson tackle commit Walker Parks of Lexington (Ky.) Fredrick Douglass and three-star tackle Clemson commit John Williams of Canton (Ga.) Creekview to give Clemson three offensive line commits already the 2020 class.

6. FLORIDA (7 COMMITS)

8735108.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Leonard Manuel, WR, Ocala, Fla. (4-star, No. 36 overall); Johnnie Brown, DT, Tampa, Fla. (4-star, No. 98 overall); Keyvone Lee, ATH, Clearwater, Fla. (4-star, No. 97 overall); Gervon Dexter, DT, Lake Wales, Fla. (4-star, No. 154 overall)

What they're saying: Lee, a play-making versatile threat, committed to the GayTurds in March. "Coach Mullen was excited," Lee told 247Sports. "I told him and a few other coaches and they were all excited. Everyone was just pumped for it and they were waiting for it." The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder can play a multitude of positions at the next level as he's played running back, wide receiver, and linebacker for his high school. He committed to the GayTurds over early offers from Kentucky, Iowa State, Louisville, Mississippi State, North Carolina, UCF, USF, and others. The GayTurds are sticking with the athlete route for now as Lee continues to grow."

7. TEXAS A&M (7 COMMITS)

8661538.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Brian Perroni, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Demond Demas, WR, Houston, Texas (5-star, No. 20 overall); Jaylon Jones, CB, Cibolo, Texas (4-star, No. 124);Akinola Ogunbyi, OG, Sugar Land, Texas (4-star, No. 222 overall); Smart Chibuzo, OT, Missouri City, Texas (4-star, No. 324 overall)

What they're saying: The Clemson game was a fine example of Texas A&M winning despite losing. Minutes after the Aggies fell to the Tigers on the field, Demond Demas gave Jimbo Fisher his pledge in person. Demas is one of the nation's most electric, athletic wide receivers, regardless of classification, and he's someone who can be an immediate impact player for Fisher, wide receivers Dameyune Craig and offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey. Demas caught 50 passes for 1,574 yards and 23 touchdowns this season. He averaged a ridiculous 31.5 yards per catch.

8. FLORIDA STATE (6 COMMITS)

8753179.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Christopher Nee, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Keyshawn Greene, OLB, Crawfordville, Fla. (4-star, No. 160 overall); Jadarius McKnight, ATH, Fort Myers, Fla. (4-star, No. 172 overall); Demorie Tate, CB, Orlando, Fla. (4-star, No. 178 overall)

What they're saying: Two days after picking up an offer from the Seminoles last April, Greene committed. "I am so proud that I committed to Florida State University," Greene tweeted. "Best college around"

9. OKLAHOMA (5 COMMITS)

Jase McClellan(Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Jase McClellan, RB, Aledo, Texas (5-star, No. 17 overall); Drew Sanders, ATH, Denton, Texas (4-star, No. 76 overall); Darion Green-Warren, CB, Santa Ana, Calif. (4-star, No. 87 overall)

What they're saying: McClellan scored four touchdowns at AT&T Stadium in the Texas 5A Championship Game, a 55-19 victory. The five-star junior scored on his first touch of the game and racked up 149 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries. He added a 22-yard touchdown reception. A longtime OU commit, he has been pledged to the Sooners since July 29, 2017. His primary recruiter at Oklahoma is running backs coach Jay Boulware, while co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh also assisted in his recruitment.

10. WISCONSIN (6 COMMITS)

8412986.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Trey Wedig, OT, Wales, Wis. (4-star, No. 93 overall); Jack Nelson, OT, Stoughton, Wis. (4-star, No. 203 overall); Cole Dakovich, OLB, Waukesha, Wis. (3-star, No. 460 overall)

What they're saying: Wisconsin's down year this fall didn't faze 2019 commits during the Early Signing Period, nor has it had an effect on Wisconsin's offensive line-loaded 2020 class at this point.

11. MICHIGAN (6 COMMITS)

8686737.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Brice Marich, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Osman Savage, OLB, Baltimore, Md. (4-star, No. 251); Andre Seldon, CB, Belleville, Mich. (4-star, No. 285 overall); Kalil Branham, WR, Columbus, Ohio (4-star, No. 308 overall); Cornell Wheeler, ILB, Bloomfield, Mich. (3-star, No. 420 overall)

What they're saying: Savage committed to the Wolverines last month and is someone Michigan has targeted for a long time. Savage has quietly been considered one of the top linebackers on the eastern seaboard for the last two recruiting cycles. Seldon recently stood out at the Rising Stars Showcase and took on the camp's top receivers, as he usually does, and once again showed how tough he is to separate from.

12. AUBURN (5 COMMITS)

Kobe Hudson(Photo: Jason Caldwell/Inside The Auburn Tigers, Scout.com)

Highest-rated players: Kobe Hudson, WR, LaGrange, Ga. (4-star, No. 67 overall); Demouy Kennedy, OLB, Theodore, Ala. (4-star, No. 223 overall); Avery Jernigan, OT, Blackshear, Ga. (4-star, No. 335 overall)

What they're saying: Why did Hudson play out of position this season instead of at his natural spot at wide receiver? AuburnUndercover analyst Keith Niubuhr has the scoop: "Why does he play quarterback at Troup? Two reasons: 1. Need. He’s the best the Tigers have got. 2. Clearly, he’s very good. Could Hudson actually play quarterback in college? We don’t have an answer for that — we just know the Tigers project him catching passes, not throwing them."

13. NOTRE DAME (4 COMMITS)

8411587.jpeg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Michael Mayer, 247Sports)

Highest-rated players: Michael Mayer, TE, Alexandria, Ky. (4-star, No. 100 overall); Drew Pyne, Pro-QB, New Canaan, CT (4-star, No. 113 overall); Kevin Bauman, TE, Red Bank, N.J. (4-star, No. 120 overall)

What they're saying: The Irish landed Mayer over the summer, a major get for Notre Dame's recruiting efforts in 2020 at the tight end spot. “The Notre Dame offer meant a lot to me,” said Mayer earlier this spring. "Like my school, that’s a Catholic university, so that’s awesome. The tradition of Notre Dame, the tight ends they produce, it’s big-time college football. They have done a great job of getting those guys to the NFL. The tradition is so rich. When I went up there for the Miami (Ohio) game, it was incredible. It was a sold-out crowd.”

14. PENN STATE (4 COMMITS)

8423133.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Mark Brennan-FOS/247)

Highest-rated players: Curtis Jacobs, OLB, Owings Mills, Md. (4-star, No. 159 overall); Derek Wingo, OLB, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (4-star, No. 197 overall); Joshuah Moten, CB, Fort Washington, Md. (4-star, No. 229 overall)

What they're saying: The top-rated player thus far in Penn State's 2020 class, Jacobs says he's a big fan of James Franklin and Nittany Lions assistant Brent Pry. "I’m most likely going to play outside linebacker for them but right now I’m with them as an athlete," Jacobs told 247Sports earlier this month. "And my mother and father sealed the deal. This is probably the biggest decision of my life and I couldn’t have done it without them."

15. IOWA (5 COMMITS)

7296779.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320(Photo: Scout.com)

Highest-rated players: Deuce Hogan, Pro-QB, Grapevine, Texas (4-star, No. 333 overall); Gavin Williams, RB, West Des Moines, Iowa (3-star, No. 354 overall); Michael Lois, SDE, Elkhorn, Wis. (3-star, No. 546 overall)

What they're saying: Hogan recently acquired an offer from Tennessee, but is sticking with the Hawkeyes for now. Per Hawkeyes Insider, "through his first three seasons, Hogan has completed 418 passes for 5,744 yards and 70 touchdowns. He also led his team to a state title as a freshman. This won't be the only new offer that Hogan will obtain. He'll likely be one of the more sought after quarterback prospects in Texas."

Add another to the 2020 Class.

California's Jordan Berry commits to LSU

BySHEA DIXON 8 hours ago

Title/Alt Text(Photo: Keith Niebuhr, 247Sports)

LSU has added commitment No. 10 to the growing list for the 2020 class, and once again, the Tigers have gone out to the West Coast to add a key addition.

At Saturday's Junior Day on LSU's campus, California defensive lineman Jordan Berry gave his verbal commitment to head coach Ed Orgeron. Berry is a 6-foot-3 and 280-pounder who has offers from not just LSU, but also Southern Cal, Florida, Georgia and others.

Berry is ranked as a Top 30 defensive tackle by 247Sports, and the lone prediction in on the 247Sports Crystal Ball ahead of his commitment to the Tigers was a lone pick for the Trojans.

This is the second California prospect the Tigers have added to the 2020 commitment list. LSU landed a verbal commitment from five-star Elias Ricks, the No. 1 cornerback in the country, on Christmas Day.

Berry is the third defensive linemen to join LSU's 2020 commitment list, joining four-star Jaquelin Roy and four-star CamRon Jackson.

LSU still has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country for the 2020 class, checking in just behind Alabama in the No. 1 spot. The Tigers finished with a top five class for the 2019 recruiting cycle.

LSU is hosting a Junior Day on Saturday with 50-plus unofficial visitors on campus, so news could continue to pour in for the Tigers. Stay tuned for more on that events on campus and Berry's commitment to the Tigers.

BREAKING: 2020 DE Alec Bryant commits to LSU

2020 defensive end Alec Bryant‍ of Shadow Creek High in Pearland, Texas who was on the LSU campus Monday for unofficial visit along with four other Texas prospects has committed to LSU.

“LSU is about to be back on top,” Bryant told TigerBait.com  “He (Ed Orgeron) is the next great coach at LSU”.

The high four-star Bryant committed to LSU over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and many others.

Bryant who stands at 6-foot-3, 240-pounds gives LSU 11 commitments for the class of 2020.  He’s the first defensive end/outside linebacker pledge.

Joining Bryant on the LSU campus Monday were, Bryce Anderson (2022 WR), Xavion Alford (2021 Safety), Jeremiah Harris (2020 LB) and Joshua Eaton (2020 CB).

More to come on this breaking story!

I have to be impressed with the energy shown by the coaching staff in getting 11 commits before the end of Feb.  Les did a good job recruiting mostly, and if I recall correctly (IIRC), he had about 12-14 commits by the end of May, picked up a few at the camps in June/July, and finished the year after the high school playoffs with a few 4/5* players who enjoyed playing the process out and taking their visits.

We don't know too much about the quality except in a few cases like Ricks the CB, but we've got to trust the coaches at this point.

But, it appears they are working hard.  I like that.

LSU now holds No. 1 recruiting class with 4-star commit

ByBILLY EMBODY 109 minutes ago

On Monday night, LSU made a big move up the 2020 recruiting rankings and passed Alabama for the No. 1 class in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings and the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.

2020 Pearland (Tex.) Shadow Creek defensive end Alec Bryant committed to the Tigers and became commitment No. 11 for Ed Orgeron and his staff. Ten of the program's 11 commitments are four-star prospects.

The 2020 recruiting class has quantity and quality just under a year out from National Signing Day 2020 with an average ranking of 93.74, good for No. 2 in the country behind Ohio State with a 94.22 average recruit ranking out of the teams in the top 10. Clemson, Alabama and Texas follow in order behind the Buckeyes and Tigers in terms of average recruit rating.

Joining Bryant in the 2020 recruiting class is five-star defensive back Elias Ricks, four-star wide receiver Darin Turner, four-star athlete Kayshon Boutte, four-star quarterback Max Johnson, four-star offensive tackle Courtland Ford, four-star defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy, four-star quarterback TJ Finley, four-star defensive tackle CamRon Jackson, four-star wide receiver Kris Abrams-Draine and three-star defensive tackle Jordan Berry, who committed to the Tigers at this weekend's Junior Day in Baton Rouge.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Bryant is a four-star defensive end, ranking as the No. 157 overall prospect in the country, No. 9 weak-side defensive end and No. 21 overall in the state of Texas. 247Sports is higher on Bryant, having him as the No. 78 overall prospect, No. 7 weak-side defensive end and No. 11 overall prospect in Texas.

On his visit to LSU, Bryant was joined by Shadow Creek teammates in three-star safety Xavion Alford and three-star inside linebacker Jeremiah Harris while Aldine (Texas) MacArthur 2020 cornerback Joshua Eaton was also on hand. West Brook (Beaumont) freshman wide receiver Bryce Anderson, who was one of the state's top 2022 prospects this past fall, also visited campus.

Bryant shined in Sunday's Under Armour Houston regional, earning top performers honors from 247Sports with recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks breaking down why he showed out.

"Heading back to the defensive line, another Shadow Creek Shark who caught our eye was 2020 four-star weak-side end Alec Bryant," Brooks wrote in his recap of the UA Houston regional. "His first two reps during 1-on-1's were among the best speed-rushing reps at Sunday's camp. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder is quick off the ball and bends well. He shows consistently good arc-running ability off the edge. Bryant, No. 78 overall in the 2020 Top247, owns more than 20 offers from across the country."

Rounding out the top 10 on the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings is Alabama at No. 2, Miami at No. 3, Florida at No. 4, Ohio State at No. 5, Clemson at No. 6, Texas A&M at No. 7, Oklahoma at No. 8, Florida State at No. 9 and Texas at No. 10.

Stick with Geaux247 for the latest on LSU football recruiting as Orgeron and his staff look to continue to build off this momentum so far.

This is the list of top 11 recruits in La. for 2020 from Dandy Don, and LSU has commits from 4 of the top 11.  There are 3 DT's in the top 11, and LSU has commits from 2 of those 3.  We all hated to miss on Sopsher in this years class, but we won't hurt in the 2019 season, thanks to some returning Juniors.  I did a quick look and the crystal balls on Guillory point to him signing with LSU right now.  That would put the top 3 DT's in the state at LSU, and they look to be top quality recruits.  The Louisiana situation looks very good this year on the D-line, and it looks good for LSU.

I've always maintained this year won't be a problem... next year will. Doesn't matter who we get in 2020. You don't want a bunch of frosh DL facing an sec slate.

I mean, this is good, but missing Sopsher AND OTHERS on the DL in 2019 will hurt in 2020.

In general I agree with you.  But, not everyone is leaving the d-line at the end of this year, so hopefully we won't be starting true frosh on the d-line in 2020.  Along the lines of 2019 vs 2020, this year for the first time in a LONG time, we'll have a 5th yr. senior QB with a year's experience under his belt.  That should be a bit to our advantage.  It supports the theory that if we're going to make any run, 2019 seems more likely than 2020.  Miles Brennan will be a RS Soph this season and backup Burrow.  In 2020, he'll be a RS Jr. and that would look good, unless he gets beat out by a younger player in 2 years.

Bad news.  Maybe we can get him back, who knows.

LSU's 2020 class drops to No. 2 nationally upon de-commitment from U-High's Jaqeulin Roy

https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_ebaca59a-3bd3-11e9-ac3b-73b849befcfe.html

Roy is the #1 ranked player in the state this year, at DL where LSU needs to sign several this year.

As always, it’s a long race, as every year. It’s more of how you finish.

Yes, he may just want to take some visits and enjoy the process a bit.  We've had other top players commit, de-commit, then re-commit to LSU.  Kelvin Joseph comes to mind.

Demon Clowney Commits to LSU

Tigers land the verbal pledge of a major pass-rush prospect.

By Billy Gomila@ATVS_ChefBilly  Mar 23, 2019, 6:32pm CDT

hellboy_movie_2019.0.jpg

Big news on the recruiting front, as LSU added the verbal commitment of four-star weakside defensive end prospect (and potentially all-time best possible name for a defensive player) Demon Clowney.

Clowney is a huge prospect out of Baltimore, the No. 124 overall prospect and the fifth-rated weakside defensive end. He is also the cousin of former South Carolina megastar Jadeveon Clowney.

He was in Baton Rouge this weekend for an unofficial visit, and took in the Tigers’ scrimmage today before making his decision. Clowney was one of nine players at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore that Ed Orgeron offered this past January.

Big, Fast, 'And His Last Name Is Clowney': Meet Future NSD Star Demon Clowney

ADAM KRAMERJANUARY 31, 2018

B/R

FREDERICK, Maryland — Since The Hit, nothing has been the same.

When Jadeveon Clowney crashed into Michigan's Vincent Smith on New Year's Day 2013—sending the football and Smith's helmet airborne—a moment was born that would become a sensation. Millions flooded to watch the highlight on YouTube and social media and later SportsCenter and as the "Best Play" of the year on the ESPYs. And as they did, The Hit became a title, not just a description of a play in the Outback Bowl, and the South Carolina defensive end who delivered it became a household name, not just college football's best player.

But something else happened, too. The Hit also changed the life of a sixth-grader who shared that now-household last name.

Demon (pronounced Da-Mon) Clowney didn't know the impact his cousin's Hit would have on him back then. He does now.

Five years later, Demon has become a sophomore defensive end at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, already 6'4" and 210 pounds with a body that is begging for more weight, already getting hype two years ahead of his national signing day.

"If you hear his last name and you see him, that's all you need to know," says Sam Poggi, Demon's position coach at St. Frances. "They look alike, and athletically they're very similar.

"He walks into a room, and he immediately catches everyone's attention."

They can't help seeing a young man who could one day deliver a Hit like his cousin's.

That expectation has become part of the foundation on which this high school sophomore is building his future. But it's also only a part of it. If he is to become the next Clowney to achieve greatness, Demon will have a network of support to thank for it that far exceeds his family name.

It takes no more than a few seconds to spot him on a windy, chilly Friday morning in early November. Wearing a black and gold jersey emblazoned with the No. 85, Demon and his teammates prepare for a playoff game two days away.

His body is lean but powerful. He's quick off the ball, and his long arms come in handy as he navigates through the line of scrimmage. His movements are calculated but still raw.

It's clear that he's by no means close to what he will ultimately grow into—in body or ability—which somehow makes it that much more intriguing.

The practice is being held at Dunbar High School in the heart of downtown Baltimore, largely because St. Frances Academy doesn't have its own stadium. Having only existed since 2008, the St. Frances football team—led by head coaches Henry Russell and Biff Poggi, the latter of whom spent a year on Jim Harbaugh's Michigan staff in 2016 before returning to coach high school football—has become one the nation's elite football programs.

Future Division I football players are scattered across the field, including Alabama commit Eyabi Anoma. Eyabi is the No. 4 player in the country, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He's also one of the primary reasons Demon hasn't been playing more than a handful of series per game early in the season on an undefeated team.

Demon transferred to St. Frances following his freshman football season, after spending much of that year at St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. When he made the decision to transfer, the St. Frances coaches shared the same curiosity that so many others in the profession do. They knew exactly what his last name represents.

The buzz surrounding Demon started in eighth grade. Back then, he would Google his own name and see articles pop up on an almost weekly basis.

After football games, opposing players and fans would often ask for photos.

He hasn't yet become the can't-miss player he was billed as—at least not yet. He does have a clear wealth of ability, though.

"Ever since he was young, he has been bigger and faster than everybody else," Sam Poggi says. "And his last name is Clowney. I think it's hard sometimes for him to know who he should be. Should he be himself or the guy everyone wants him to be? There's a battle that goes on inside of him.

"You look at him, and it's just undeniable. I do think his best days will be in college and beyond, but I will be shocked if he doesn't get to being a highly effective, highly motivated machine. He has it in him."

Despite limited playing time early in the season, Demon has already heard from programs around the country. Playing at St. Frances helps. With so many players on the roster to recruit, assistant and head coaches have flocked there. Some know Demon when they arrive, having heard of him before he ever played a single high school down.

Others are hooked only when they arrive and see him in pads—and hear who he's related to.

Shamea Clowney sits on a sofa inside her Baltimore condo. An electric fireplace illuminates the room with flashes of red and orange. Pictures of Demon—some in his uniform, some in a suit—share the mantel with a lone trophy.

Like her son, Shamea shares a last name that has become a talking point no matter where she goes. She hears it at her job at the Baltimore airport and around a city where the name Clowney means something.
