LSUDad
Ok, a start… LSU gets first OL commit for 2023 class in Georgia's Paul Mubenga By Brody Miller July 14, 2022Updated 5:34 PM EDT 2 Three-star offensive tackle Paul Mubenga (Buford, Ga.) committed to LSU on Thursday, giving the Tigers their first offensive line commit of the 2023 class. Mubenga was long considered a Michigan lean, and Texas A&M made a push too, but in recent weeks LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis was able to put LSU in good position to land the 6-foot-4, 280-pound tackle. Offensive line has been a concern in the 2023 class with no commitments midway through June. Now, LSU adds a high-upside athlete, and it also stands in good shape with Louisiana four-star linemen Zalance Heard and Tyree Adams. LSU has 16 commitments in the 2023 class so far, with 10 of those commitments coming in the last two weeks.
houtiger
NEWS: LSU Secures Commitment From Offensive Tackle Paul Mubenga Mubenga became commit No. 16 in the Tigers 2023 class, first offensive lineman Zack Nagy 2 hours ago The Tigers run on the recruiting trail continues after earning a commitment from Georgia native Paul Mubenga. Mubenga became LSU‘s first offensive line commit in the 2023 cycle for coach Brad Davis. Mubenga is commit No. 16 in the 2023 class after the Tigers also welcomed four-star running back Kaleb Jackson Tuesday morning. This is a huge win for Coach Davis, who lands a prospect with tremendous upside for his offensive line. Mubenga chose LSU over Michigan, Texas A&M, among others, being drawn to the Tigers due to the vision Brian Kelly has for this program. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder has all the tools to compete in the SEC with the developmental skills Davis attains. For Kelly and his staff to land the Georgia native is a massive win for this program as they continue dipping into the state that is bursting with talent. Herb
Speaking of... BREAKING: LSU lands first offensive line commit in 2023 class Kyle Richardson July 14, 2022 5:41 pm CT Of course, I write about possible LSU offensive line commits, and the Tigers land a guy that I didn’t put on the list. They heard me and one-upped me on Thursday with the addition of Georgia prospect Paul Mubenga, who becomes the first offensive line prospect to join the 2023 class. Mubenga is a 6-foot-4, 280-pound three-star offensive lineman from Buford, Georgia. He was crystal-balled to Michigan by three different Wolverines insiders, but coach Brian Kelly pulled a rabbit out of his hat and snagged Mubenga out of the claws of Jim Harbaugh. LSU’s class now stands at 16 players after adding Mubenga, and it now ranks seventh in the country on the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Kelly has been having a ball recruiting players from the Peach State. He pretty much has established a pipeline to the areas surrounding Atlanta as he has multiple commits from north Georgia already in 2023 and 2024. This staff continues to recruit well, and that’s a positive sign for Tigers fans hoping Kelly can become the fourth-straight coach to win a national title in Baton Rouge. Herb
Brody Miller refers to Mubenga as a 4 star: Regardless of his "star rating", he has prototypical 'starting size' before the team's nutritionalist and strength and conditioning guys sculpt him.
houtiger
Paul Mubenga is 6' 4" and 280. I read a little that he has only played football for two years. From SI: LSU is on an incredible run on the recruitment trail, landing yet another prospect in the 2023 cycle. In search of offensive lineman for this class, the Tigers fill a position of need with Mubenga, who gives them a dynamic lineman who fits their scheme beautifully. Mubenga is relatively new to football. Growing up on the soccer field, he didn’t play competitive football until his freshman year of high school. Now, two years later, he’s amassed 40 scholarship offers while becoming one of the more versatile lineman in his 2023 class. I'll name another athlete from Africa who grew up playing soccer, Hakeem Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets, led his team to back to back NBA championships in the early 90's. No center could really guard Olajuwan, he had 100 moves he could go to for a score. I heard him say American Athletes develop eye hand coordination, but soccer players develop eye foot coordination. He beat a lot of guys with his footwork. I don't know if this guy will work out, but I hope he does. Obviously they'll try to play him at offensive tackle, lined up against those quick outside speed rushers. I hope his quick feet keep him in position to get them blocked. I don't know what his ideal weight will be but I'll be surprised if we see him much over 300. He's got to stay quick.
LSUDad
Remember, LSU has picked up a number of players from Buford, Ga. The Ferguson brother’s Blake and Reid, Quentin Skinner, those three were LS. Vadal Alexander was a very good OL, also from Buford. Some word, he may work at the center position.

LSUDad
6 biggest winners in college football recruiting midway through July by Chris Peterson2d ago 1. LSU football It’s hard to deny what LSU football has been doing on the recruiting trail in the month of July. The Tigers have 10 commitments total this month and they have surged into the top 10 of the 247 sports team rankings because of it. Brian Kelly hinted about recruiting as being a reason why he went to LSU, although Notre Dame fans will point out the Irish are doing just fine on the trail right now without him, however, this is what he was talking about. LSU football has been dominating this month and is ranked seventh overall with 16 commitments total. 10 of those are blue-chip prospects so the Tigers are right in the 60-percent range. Jalen Brown, a five-star wide receiver out of South Florida was a huge win for the Tigers. He’s ranked 29th overall. Jaxon Howard, a top-100 edge rusher who is also capable of playing tight end, was another notable commitment this month. NEXT: Ranking College Football's top 25 fanbases More than anything, LSU’s haul is about strength in numbers with six blue chips this month. The Tigers still don’t have a quarterback in 2023 but what they do have is a really solid start to a top-10 college football recruiting class in 2023.
houtiger
On a down note, LB Tackett Curtis of Many La. committed to USC. He is the 4th player out of the La. top 10 to commit out of state. Word has it has was miffed for a long time that LSU was not talking to him. LSU was not in his top 3. Ohio State and Wisconsin were the other 2.
LSUDad
LSU's Plan of Attack on the Recruiting Trail, Strategy Going Forward Kelly looking to lock down Louisiana, Bech continue getting more involved on visits LSU has dominated the recruiting trail in July, securing an influx of top prospects across the country, but this coaching staff knows they still have work to do. The job isn’t finished quite yet. Throughout SEC Media Day, Kelly and the players were asked about their thoughts on the meteoric rise this LSU program has had in recruiting and what it means to this program. Another key piece was the plan going forward as they continue developing the 2023 class and preparing for the future. Here are a few standout topics discussed on Monday: In-State Recruiting Former LSU standout Ryan Clark spoke on the urgency this program must have in locking down the state of Louisiana. So far in Kelly’s 2023 recruiting class, it’s been a majority of out of state players, though this program knows there is room for improvement when it comes to recruiting in-state. “I think first and foremost, make sure that you evaluate the entire state of Louisiana. I think that means make sure you extend yourself,” Kelly said. “It's not just New Orleans and the greater Baton Rouge area. You have to get up north, all the way up through Shreveport, up to Monroe, all into the state of Louisiana.” The Tigers have had success recruiting up north in Louisiana over the years, securing 2022 five-star offensive lineman Will Campbell in the process. Kelly spoke of the coaching staff needing to extend their efforts across the entire state, not just the South. “That doesn't mean you just take a kid from Louisiana because he's from Louisiana,” Kelly said. “If he's not rated as high, can you go out of state? Sure. But you better know the players in the state of Louisiana. That means the entire state. I think that's maybe where if I've gotten any feedback that maybe we needed to extend our recruiting efforts a little bit further north. I think we've done that.” Player Impact on the Recruiting Trail Sophomore wide receiver Jack Bech may not have had the recruiting privileges the 2022 and 2023 classes have had due to his recruitment taking place during COVID-19. But the standout wide receiver has an opportunity to get more involved on the trail and take control of helping out on campus. “Whenever I was getting recruited it was COVID so we didn’t get to do much. It’s been really awesome,” Bech said on Monday. “I’ve kind of taken that role that I’m going to really interact with the recruits whenever they come. Go to recruiting dinners, hang out with the guys and just show them what our culture is about. That’s a huge part of it and I think we’ve done a great job of it.” For junior defensive end BJ Ojulari, he spoke of the major influence current players have on recruiting visits. As a recruit, you look to be embraced and feel like family, which is precisely what Ojulari and this team have done when recruits visit campus. It’s safe to say that strategy has been beneficial so far. “When I was getting recruited, a lot of guys embraced me on my recruiting visits,” Ojulari said on Monday. “I know how it feels, makes you feel special, more at home. Us being able to show more influence to a recruit and make them feel at home, it’s a great feeling. If it’s through social media or anything of that sort, it’s great to be a part of that process for that recruit.”

Someone whose opinion I don't give 2 shytes about. Kelly is flipping players he had recruited for ND...he'll build his Louisiana relationships over the next 18 months. "Locking down Louisiana" is a sound bite more than a reality. Not even the almighty Saban ever fully locked down Louisiana. We don't need to "lock down" the Janzen Jacksons of the world. Hatchertiger
You can do everything right and kids may still leave Louisiana. And if that's the case what is a coach supposed to do? Can't sit on the curb and cry, you have to go out an recruit players that want to come to LSU. Its going to take Kelly and his staff time to build relationship in state. LSUDad
Louisiana is the land of opportunity, kids get the opportunity, they move. It’s about building relationships, right now, the main thing pushing kids, NIL. NIL has taken over the recruiting process.

Herb
I'm starting to wonder if the effect of NIL might be overblown...like dropping a cinder block in a pond, the 1st ripple is the biggest and subsequent ripples get progressively smaller and ultimately have little effect. There has always been money in recruiting. Schools that recruited at a high level had money before and that won't change. The big 1st ripple in the pond is merely initial perception in the minds of the 1st wave of recruits in the NIL era. A bunch of them thought A&M was the cat's meow. The next wave will calibrate NIL money with playing time and exposure, which is what they ultimately crave. I think 3 years in the NIL era will generally see the same recruiting powers before remain the powers with a few rising up some and a few falling some. Kiffin will complain as long as he is at Ole Miss. I don't see them really becoming an elite power. He's complaints about about NIL are likely proxy for complaints about Ole Miss. He - like others - are biding their time for a bigger and better deal and keeping themselves in the press' eye until then.

He chose the Tigers over Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and others, and he joins three-star Buford, Georgia, offensive tackle Paul Mubenga in the class. Adams attends St. Augustine High School in New Orleans which also produced former LSU stars Tyrann Mathieu and Leonard Fournette. He the No. 196 overall prospect on the 247Sports Composite, and On3’s rankings list him as the No. 10 offensive tackle prospect in the class. At 6-foot-5, 285 pounds, Adams has great size right out of the gate and could potentially compete for early playing time when he gets to campus. He mostly played right tackle as a junior last fall but could play on the left side as well. Adams becomes the 17th member of LSU’s 2023 recruiting class, which now ranks No. 10 in the country on the 247Sports Composite. The Tigers have landed 11 commits for this cycle so far in July, and it doesn’t look like coach Brian Kelly is slowing down with the team in a good position for other blue-chip Louisiana prospects like five-star Baton Rouge receiver Shelton Sampson Jr.
houtiger
Great news about Tyree Adams committing! We needed to get going on the o-line. Over the years we talked about Les recruiting guards and playing them at tackle, and they were not quick enough to stop the real athletic outside rushers in at the top rung of the SEC. 6'6" and 285 sounds like a more rangy guy that might play tackle. Now we need to get Zalance Heard from N. La. 17 recruits at the end of July is about where we usually are. Eight spots, and hopefully we get quality in those. Heard would be a quality guy. Need a QB, but he's not going to play for a while. By the way, I saw that Lowell Narcisse was going to transfer to a Jr. college in Miss., then he announced that he was retiring from football to move on with the rest of his life. He had a season ending injury at Tx. State one year, didn't play the next. Edited July 29, 2022 by houtiger

LSUDad
#LSU landing St. Augustine 4-star OL Tyree Adams today is huge, huge get. He's a national Top 10 OT, and he's staying put in Louisiana for college. 6-5.5, 283 pounds and has some great measurables. He's exactly what you want in an offensive tackle prospect.
