2023 LSU Football Commitments

This is the "other WR" that is committed to LSU for the 2023 class:

Quote

Kyle Parker, Lovejoy football

Although the Leopards fell short against state-ranked Argyle on Friday, Parker put up one of the more impressive receiving performances in recent Texas high school football history. The LSU commit finished his night with 23 receptions for 341 yards and three touchdowns — his 23 catches were just one shy of the UIL record, set back in 2019 by El Paso Eastlake's Matthew Jones.

You read that correctly: 23 catches for 341 yards and 3 TDs in a SINGLE GAME!!!

Tigers Hosting Elite Prospects This Weekend, Names to Know

LSU prepared to host a number of blue-chip recruits for the season opener, sold out crowd against Southern.

The visitors list for the LSU-Southern matchup continues to grow headlined by five-star 2024 EDGE Colin Simmons. It’s the home opener for the Tigers and this program has been itching to get prospects on campus as they continue putting the final touches on their 2023 class while dipping into the 2024 cycle as well.

It’s set to be an incredible atmosphere in Death Valley with a sold out crowd for the battle of Baton Rouge. This coaching staff couldn’t be more excited to get some recruits in to check out a game day with the lights brightest.

Here are a few priority targets set to be in town this weekend:

Colin Simmons - EDGE - 2024 (5-star)

Collins, who already sits at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, is receiving calls from virtually every Power Five program in the country. Being prioritized by a handful of SEC schools, the Tigers are looking to separate themselves from the pack.

The film on Collins doesn’t lie. Using his length and strength to his advantage, he plows through defenders at ease with tremendous technique. The quick feet he attains gives him a severe advantage in the trenches, being extremely well-developed for his age.

To get Collins back to LSU and get a taste of a game-like atmosphere is a major victory for head coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers. With Jamar Cain being the primary recruiter of Simmons, he’ll be battling it out with a number of elite programs.

DJ Chester - Offensive Line - 2023 (4-star)

A monstrous tackle, already sitting at 6-foot-5, 300-pounds, Chester is a force up front. One of the top offensive linemen in Georgia, his ability to run-block is what makes him such a gifted talent. A multi-sport athlete, his background in basketball shows with his quick feet.

Chester is one of the top offensive line prospects left in the 2023 cycle. In a state that is seemingly bursting with top linemen each year, Chester has certainly separated himself as one of the best in the business.

Coach Davis is prioritizing Chester in a big way, making an impact in his recruitment over the summer. It’s looking as though the Tigers are starting to pick up some traction with one of the nation’s top remaining offensive linemen still on the market.

Colin Hurley - Quarterback - 2025 (4-star)

A two time state champion, Hurley started for Trinity Christian as an eighth grader and led the team to a state championship. In 2021, he did it again as a freshman, this time earning accolades including FL High School Class 2A Overall Player of the Year.

He's been clocked at throwing a ball 61 mph. As a comparison, Patrick Mahomes tied the NFL Combine record in 2017 by throwing a ball 60 mph. The physical traits on Hurley are astounding at 6-foot-1, 213 pounds and already running a 4.8 40-yard dash with the arm strength and accuracy of a readymade college quarterback.

Hurley’s offer list has already reached 20+ and the Tigers are heavily in the mix for one of 2025’s finest. To get the dynamic youngster on campus with a sold out crowd in the season opener is a major win for this program.

With the most recent wave of updates to the On3 Top 300, there was plenty of shuffling to recruits at all positions.

As the calendar turns to the month of October, the LSU football staff holds a pair of offensive tackle commitments who are both ranked inside the Top 10at the position.

Neville High (La.) senior Zalance Heardcarries a five-star rating as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country. St. Augustine (La.) senior Tyree Adams is ranked as a four-star and the No. 10 offensive tackle prospect in the class.

Heard committed to LSU on September 1, while Adams got on board with the Tigers on July 29.

The pair are part of an LSU football commitment list that is ranked by the On3 Consensus Team Rankings as the No. 6 class in the 2023 cycle. Heard and Adams are two of nine Louisiana commitments in for the staff, with the Tigers sitting on 22 total verbal commits.

The On3 Scouting Reports

Zalance Heard

6-5.5, 305 pounds

“Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect with outstanding length and block-finishing skills. Has prototypical size at the position, measuring 6-foot-5.5, 295 pounds as a junior. Possesses elite length, with his arms checking in at 36 inches on college visits. Began his career as a defensive lineman prior to transferring to northeast Louisiana power Neville High. Played exclusively at right tackle as a junior and looks to have the highest upside at offensive tackle. His defensive lineman athleticism shows up by way of advanced movement skills, particularly in the run game where he’s a mauling presence. Already a dominant drive blocker in his first full season playing offensive line. Has natural upper body strength to go with his length and athleticism. Is a bit high-hipped and will need to continue playing lower. Needs to continue developing his pass set technique as he gains experience at the position.”
Tyree Adams

6-5.5, 283 pounds

“Patient and powerful offensive line prospect that possesses a developmental, all-around skillset. Measures in around 6-foot-5 and weighs close to 285 pounds with a 10-inch hand and 6-foot-8 wingspan. Will add necessary weight throughout his frame with ease in order to excel in college. Has a clean kick slide in pass protection. Shoots his hands and locks on once engaged in running and passing game. Explosiveness jumps off the tape as well as his ability to stay square and balanced. Jumped a 28-inch vertical and ran an electronically-timed 7.63 3-cone this spring heading into his senior season. Has considerable upside due to movement skills combined with his build. Fine tuning by collegiate coaching could send his stock through the roof. One the younger end of the spectrum for the 2023 class.”

It wasn’t the result LSU had hoped for against Tennessee Saturday morning, but the highly anticipated matchup still reeled in a number of coveted prospects to Baton Rouge. With a few of the state’s top uncommitted prospects on the sideline with LSU pledges, the Tigers held one of their more productive recruiting weekends of the year.

Prospects are remaining optimistic with this program and the trajectory they’re on. Understanding they can make an impact and affect the future of this team, social media has been raving with reactions from guys who were on campus and players committed already.

Here is what social media is saying:

Darron Reed - 4-star defensive lineman and 2023 LSU commit

At 6-foot-4, 270-pounds, Reed displays tremendous athleticism for his size, using twitchy movements to get to the quarterback. Continuing to fill out his frame with muscle will be a key piece to developing his game as he prepares for Baton Rouge.

The LSU commit is a huge piece to this 2023 class. Providing the Tigers with an intense, do-it-all DL, his presence in Death Valley can make this defensive line reload for the future alongside greats like Maason Smith and Quency Wiggins.

A look at what Reed had to say of his class and the future of this program.

Xavier Atkins - 4-star linebacker and 2024 LSU commit

Standing at 6-foot, 200-pounds, Atkinshas great size for the linebacker position given he just entered his junior year of high school. With tremendous strength and technique, it’ll be exciting to monitor his growth as he continues developing before heading to Baton Rouge in 2024.

Totaling 218 tackles – 28.0 for loss – and eight sacks in 13 games as a sophomore, Atkins proved he has all the intangibles to compete in the SEC.

Atkins is also a very vocal guy. He’s already spoken with a number of other 2024 prospects and will be a huge piece in making that class great. The LSU commit took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the future of this program.

Tayvion Galloway - 4-star tight end and 2024 LSU commit

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has all the tools to compete in the SEC with the developmental skills this coaching staff attains. Kelly has been working to develop relationships early in the 2024 cycle, clearly making an impression on Galloway over a short period of time.

Galloway has proven to be a threat as a blocking tight end and has shown flashes of his soft hands when becoming a pass catcher. Only in the midst of his junior year, he has all the tools to develop into a lethal threat for this LSU offense when his time comes.

The 4-star LSU commit has shown on social media he’s bought into what this program is capable of in the future, reaffirming his commitment to the Tigers and appreciation for the LSU atmosphere.

Ju'Juan Johnson - 4-star LSU target

After a standout performance at the LSU skills camp this summer, 2024 ATH Ju’Juan Johnson earned an offer from the Tigers, seeing his recruitment take off over the last few months. Snagging offers from Mississippi State and Alabama as well, Johnson dominated camps all offseason.

At LSU’s 7-on-7 tournament in June, it was clear why this staff handed him an offer. Doing it all on the field for Lafayette Christian, Johnson played quarterback along with a number of other positions. In short, Johnson can flat out spin the ball. Throwing darts to his receivers then adding the ability to play multiple positions makes Johnson one of Louisiana’s finest in the 2024 class.

LSU WR commit Kyle Parker sets Texas HS football record

LSU WR commit Kyle Parker sets Texas HS football record Kyle Parker has solidified himself as one of the best WRs in Texas. (Credit: shotsbyshowtime_/Instagram)

LUCAS, Texas (BVM) — When a team has four DI caliber players at wide receiver, one could imagine how difficult it would be for one to stand out. However, Lovejoy High School’s Kyle Parker is rising above the rest, especially with his performance against Argyle High School on Sep. 3.

Parker caught 23 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns during the Friday night matchup. It makes the third-most catches by a high school football player in Texas high school football history.

“It was a great game,” Parker told DFW Inside High School Sports. “[We] took a tough loss against a good Argyle team. I wouldn’t have been able to do without my teammates. Quarterback, coaches, the play calling, and everybody working together to get me those 23 catches.”

Overall this season, Parker has shown just how talented he is. During the team’s first six games, the senior wideout has recorded 42 catches for 532 yards and eight touchdowns.

However, it hasn’t just been about his start to his senior year.

As a junior, Parker caught 47 passes for 790 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Doing this, Parker helped lead the Leopards to a 12-2 overall record. Unfortunately, they would fall to South Oak Cliff High school in the state playoffs.

Regardless of last year’s results, his output during his junior season and early in 2022 has inspired him and his teammates to finish their final season on a high note. His results inspired not only those around him but also major DI colleges like LSU, Oklahoma State, Texas, Arkansas, JSU and others.

With a plethora of interest, Parker decided to commit to LSU on June 23

Alongside his success on the football field, Parker has seen his athletic progress carry over to the track. In April 2022, Parker ran a 10.89 in the 100-meter dash. He also ran a 23.04 in the 200m dash.

“Kyle’s a special person,” Lovejoy head football coach Chris Ross told DFW Inside High School Sports. “He’s a great teammate, and he leads by encouraging, and then he also sets an example on the football field. And he’s an incredible competitor.”

In the meantime, Parker will do his best to boost his already impressive skill set and prepare for a championship season at Lovejoy and one could imagine how diligent Parker’s preparation has been. But one thing is for certain, Cabana is one of the best high school players in Texas and is on his way to having a rewarding athletic career

Denton (Texas) Guyer four-star safety Ryan Yaites committed to LSU on April 15. He announced Sunday that he plans to honor his pledge to the Tigers.

Oklahoma pushed hard for Yaites following his commitment to head coach Brian Kelly and his staff. Even though Yaites’ Guyer teammate, five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold, is currently committed to the Sooners, the 6-foot-1, 175 pound defensive back will be heading to Baton Rouge for his college career.

2023 Linebacker Christian Brathwaite Flips Commitment from Baylor to LSU

Brathwaite had been committed to Dave Aranda and Baylor since January, adds position of need.

LSU was in need of another linebacker in the 2023 class and that’s exactly what Brian Kelly and his staff went out and secured after gaining a commitment from 4-star Christian Brathwaite. The long-time Baylor commit announced his pledge to the Tigers Wednesday morning.

Brathwaite is commit No. 23 in the 2023 class after the Tigers also welcomed 5-star offensive lineman Zalance Heard in early September.

This is a huge victory for this LSU staff, in search of another linebacker to accompany 4-star Whit Weeks in this class, the Tigers secured Brathwaite after his visit for the Ole Miss game.
The dynamic prospect, who had previously been committed to Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears for months, flipped his commitment in the blink of an eye after getting to campus for an LSU game day.

He's from the same town as Harold Perkins...let's hope there's something in the water there!

I thought Brathwaite might have been from the same high school as Perkins (Cypress Park High School), but Brathwaite is from Cypress Ranch High School.

There are 12 high schools in unincorporated Harris County and one in Jersey Village, a total of 12 high schools in the district. Nine of the 12 begin with the word "Cypress" - lol.

  • Cy-Fair High School (opened 1940)
  • Jersey Village High School (opened 1972)
  • Cypress Creek High School ( opened 1977)
  • Langham Creek High School (opened 1984)
  • Cypress Falls High School (opened 1992)
  • Cypress Springs High School (opened 1997)
  • Cypress Ridge High School (opened 2002)
  • Cypress Woods High School (opened 2006)
  • Cypress Ranch High School (opened 2008) - Christian Brathwaite's High School
  • Cypress Lakes High School (opened 2008)
  • Cypress Park High School (opened 2016) - Harold Perkins' High School
  • Bridgeland High School (opened 2017)

Herb, those 12 high schools are all in ONE Independent School District, the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.  There are many more ISD's in unincorporated Harris County, like Klein ISD and Tomball ISD.  The ISD in TX is independent from municipal government, and is its own taxing authority.  This did create inequity in funding, with rich districts voting to tax themselves and have great schools and higher teacher pay, until a lawsuit was filed and the system was modified by the "Robin Hood plan".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood_plan

My kids all graduated from Cy Springs High, enrollment 3.100.  Most of the schools are newish, and BIG.

Flip through the pictures of Cy Springs at the link below, and catch the Natatorium, an attached building housing the swimming pool for competitions.

We pay a lot of property taxes, but we can see the results, so most are OK with it.

Cy-Fair has produced some Tigers. Pretty sure Russell Sheperd is one IIRC

He went to Ridge

I met Shepherd during the Spring of his Sr year. Along with his head coach Gary Thiebaud. Shep was an athlete playing QB, his brother Nick, played DB, a position Russell could have mastered along with WR.
Years after Shep graduated, I was asked to attend a practice at Cy-Ridge, the OC and DC of a college were looking at three DB on the team. I observed all three kids, after practice I got together with the coaches. They asked my opinion. My thoughts, all three kids were close to the same size, speed and build. You could change numbers/ jerseys, you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. I said, I’d offer all three. The OC looked at the DC, said, “See what I told you!” They had the same opinions. They offered all three and signed all three.

Oh, Gary Thiebaud retired a few years back.
