Herb Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 So, as the season winds down the transfer portal windows will open open up after the season is over. Recall that the NCAA has limited the time slots that players can enter the transfer portal: There is a 45 day period that players can enter the portal that starts the day after the Championship game. There is an additional 15 day period from May 1st through the 15th so players can transfer after Spring camp ends. Players can enter the portal outside of those windows if either a) their head coach is fired or b) their scholarship is reduced, cancelled, or not renewed. Graduate students who are set to graduate and have remaining eligibility are exempt from the portal transfer windows. We should keep an eye open to the portal. LSU is one of the hottest teams in football right now and talented kids currently on other teams that are thinking about "upgrading" to a better team are likely looking at LSU and thinking that they might want to hop on this train while they have a chance. One example is a very talent-laden team that we play next: Texas A&M. TAMU is the opposite of LSU right now in that they are getting very deserved negative press for their performance: Quote Fast forward, and the Aggies are much closer to infamy. In the last 50 years, only seven teams have gone from preseason top six to losing records. By losing to an interim-coached Auburn in Week 11, the Aggies fell to that mark and will shockingly miss a bowl game for the first time since 2008; for comparison, Kevin Sumlin never missed a bowl and won at least eight games in his first five seasons. There's also a team located east of Texas that poached the Aggies' athletic director making matters worse. Scott Woodward opted to go home to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and he then called upon Brian Kelly to lead his LSU football program. In just one season, Kelly has delivered the Tigers an SEC West crown, something Fisher has not won after five seasons. With the transfer portal on the horizon, expect that sparkling recruiting class to take notice. A team cannot contact any player on another team unless a player announces they are going to enter the portal - otherwise it is tampering. However, once they enter the portal, players in the portal are okay for teams to contact and offer a spot on their team. There are likely players on that "sparkling recruiting class" thinking to themselves they'd be better off at a team on the rise. There is also the possibility that the oil baron boosters might suck it up, shell out the $86 million Jimbo would get, and fire him. If that happens, any kid on that team can enter the portal at that point and start talking to other teams. Texas A&M started off the season ranked 6th and are now ineligible to appear in a bowl game. There will be more coaches fired between now and January and at that point more players might decide to enter the portal. Keep your eyes peeled for kids entering the portal - especially when the 1st window opens the day after this year's champion is crowned. You know Kelly and Polian are already gearing up for that. 1 Quote
LSUDad Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 As for now, LSU looks to be one of the more stable programs. We started at 39 players when Kelly arrived, he got it somewhere in the high 70’s. Never getting to the 85 limit. Taking a number of Louisiana players, most never recruited by LSU. To put together from such a depleted roster, I’ve said, I’ve never seen one this bad off, ever. Kelly had a ton to do, keep kids from leaving, weeding out players, getting a staff, getting a support staff. Remember, Kim Mulkey came over, her staff came with her, almost intact. When the short guy came to LSU, he had to build, that staff at Michigan st, lasted 3 years. Quote
Herb Posted November 14, 2022 Author Posted November 14, 2022 I keep wondering what this defense might have looked like with Perkins and Jacoby Matthews. Maybe we'll get to find out? 1 Quote
LSUDad Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 This might answer a few questions on the portal. Players who intend to transfer as graduatescan enter the portal at any time, while undergraduates must wait until the NCAA’s new transfer portal window opens Dec. 5. However, the NCAA makes an exception for undergraduates who “experience head coach changes or have athletics aid reduced, canceled or not renewed,” to allow them to enter the portal outside of the designated window. 1 Quote
Hatchertiger Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Kelly has said we are going to have to go to the portal again this year because of depth. However, his long term plan is to build the program through recruiting. Never thought the program would bounce back so quickly after Orgeron let of into "Bolivia" to paraphrase Mike Tyson. Testament to Brian Kelly and his plan. And honestly the first time I saw that LSU was going to hire Brian Kelly it was on Twitter and I thought somebody was trolling. 3 Quote
LSUDad Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 Open the gates! Ole Miss will take a hit on its defense as a defensive lineman has announced that he will enter the transfer portal. On Friday, it was announced by DL Brandon Mack that he would be leaving the Rebels after he spent the last 3 years in Oxford. In his social media announcement, Mack cited the transfer as the “best decision for his future” while he also thank his Ole Miss teammates and coaches. Quote

LSUDad Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Texas A&M will see one of its 5-star signees look at his options to continue his college football career elsewhere. Freshman DB Denver Harris announced Friday that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal. Harris made the announcement via social media. Harris played in 5 games as a true freshman, giving him 3 full seasons of remaining eligibility. His last appearance came on Oct. 8 against Alabama, in which he recorded a season-high 4 tackles. On Oct. 25, Harris was identified by ESPN’s Chris Low as one of the 3 Texas A&M players who had been suspended indefinitely by Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher due to a postgame locker room incident. WR Chris Marshall and OL PJ Williams were also named in the report. Harris finished the season with 14 tackles and 3 pass breakups. Out of North Shore High School in Houston, Harris was rated 5-stars and the No. 23 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He chose Texas A&M over 37 other scholarship offers. Quote
LSUDad Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Texas A&M quarterback Haynes Kinghas entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. King, a redshirt sophomore this season, will have multiple years of eligibility remaining. King had been a starter for the Aggies for brief stints, including the start of the past two seasons — he was injured and missed the final 10 games of 2021 and eventually lost the starting job after beginning the 2022 season atop the depth chart. King played high school football at Longview (Texas) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 126 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. LSUDad Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Jacques Doucet @JacquesDoucet . @LSUfootball @CoachBrianKelly reiterates that players taken in through transfer portal have to meet a standard. #LSU is not "open for business". They have to be right fit + recognize the importance of a college education. Preferably they will be from Louisiana as well. 2 Quote

LSUDad Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 LSU offered Oregon transfer EDGE Bradyn Swinson on Tuesday, he reported on Twitter. This year, he tallied eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Swinson has three years to play two seasons of eligibility remaining. Swinson has spent three seasons at Oregon, finishing with 35 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups and a forced fumble before entering the transfer portal. Swinson played high school football at Douglasville (Ga.) Chapel Hill, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 486 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. LSUDad Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 The Offers From LSU: Kyle Morlock - Tight End - Shorter University - Offered A graduate transfer out of Division II Shorter University, LSU dished out an offer to Morlock in November. Immediately upon announcing his intention to hit the portal, the gifted tight end added double-digit scholarship offers. The Tigers are relatively thin at this position group. Handing the keys to true freshman Mason Taylor, the lack of depth is certainly something to monitor. Along with Taylor, junior Kole Taylor also got some run this season. Look for the Tigers to make a push for Morlock with the portal officially open. With 2023 commit Mac Markway coming to town, it adds another player at a position of need, but to secure a veteran of Morlock’s caliber would be a big addition for the future. Braden Fiske - Defensive Tackle - Western Michigan - Offered Jamar Cain has proven to be one of the top recruiters in the country at the defensive line position. How will he utilize the portal this month? LSU has dished out an offer to Western Michigan defensive tackle Braden Fiske already. Fiske has played five years of college football, but remains with one final year of eligibility. He finished the 2022 season with 58 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, seven quarterback hurries and three pass breakups. For his collegiate career, he’s tallied 148 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks across his career. Bradyn Swinson – EDGE – Oregon - Offered Swinson totaled eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in the 2022 season In his three seasons at Oregon, Swinsin finished with 35 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Swinson has received significant interest in the portal. The Tigers are in search of additional depth at the defensive line position, and after extending two offers within that position group in three days, it’s clear the message they are sending. Quote
