UGA has a change at OC.

Mike Bobo was quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1994-97 and was an on-field coach for the program for 14 seasons. Bobo spent the 2021 season as offensive coordinator at Auburn. He worked in 2020 at South Carolina as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after his five-year stint as head coach at Colorado State. Bobo previously was Georgia’s OC during the Mark Richt era.

Kirby Smart announced on Tuesday that Bobo has accepted the role of offensive coordinator for Georgia’s football program for the second time in his career after offensive coordinator/quarterbacks after Todd Monken accepted a similar spot with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.

Monken finished a three-year stint that saw the Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships thanks to an offense that scored 38.6 points per game in 2021 and one that averaged 41.1 this past season.

That will turn out to be one expensive 'chocking the chicken' session.

Holy Mike Price Batman!!! Tucker could lose $95M of guranteed money if he is fired for cause.  SIDENOTE: Why didn't she hang up the phone at the first indication of what was happening on the other side of the "conversation" ?  😕 Just sayin'

Fair point, but we need for all of the facts to come out. Right now, it is a bit of a "she said/he said" thing.

However, I'm sure Mel Tucker's contract has sections in it about Mel Tucker being an exemplary representative of the university paying him $95 million. He admitted publicly that he did masturbate on the phone call.

This is the same university where Larry Nasser was employed and now the most visible person in the university is embroiled in a sex scandal involving a rape survivor. I think the Michigan State already has enough to fire him for cause. Given the Nasser fiasco where they didn't act for like 20 years even though there were repeated complaints, I think the university is just getting their legal ducks in a row and will act swiftly.

They signed him to a $95 million contract that isn't bearing the fruit they expected and now that coach is admitting that he jacked off on a phone call with a rape survivor but it was consensual. They still have the Nasser cloud hanging over them.  I don't think they have a choice but to fire him.

Apparently, the wording of the conduct clause in his contract states he agrees to not participate in conduct that “in the University’s reasonable judgment, would tend to bring public disrespect, contempt or ridicule on the University.”

Well the “facts” are starting to come out. And these things are always “he said she said”  It boils down to who you believe and who is telling a story. Paging Joe Alleva.

I haven't read anything abut this case yet, but it's safe to say Tucker is done at Michigan State.

like Herb quoted earlier, pretty much every major contract as a clause about bringing negative light to the university.
and this pretty much qualifies.

Tucker said there was some sort of "adult relationship".  Maybe he can give his cell phone records to the University and prove there was something on-going?

I think the University has to be careful about firing Tucker over a he said she said.  They would have to hire a head coach, and I would not let them put that language in the next contract.  There would need to be some words about "proof" before firing, or at least buyout if there was no actual proof.

I took sexual harassment training in corporate life, and firing was not usually the objective.  If there was a documented case, making the harassment stop is the first objective.  A transfer may occur to separate the individuals.  A minor complaint could go to a manager to handle, worse complaints go to HR.  I did see one VP get fired, he had pressured several women to have sex with him (they did not) to keep their jobs.  They went to HR and he was fired the next day.

they're not going to fire him over his guilt/innocence in this particular case.

they'll fire him for bringing negative press and scandal to the University.

it's actually pretty standard language in all coaching contracts, so there is pretty much no way you're getting one without that in there.
under the "for cause" section, will be a list of things that qualify.  And there is almost always something on that list about bringing negative press to yourself and/or the university. Typically, the contracts even give the University discretion of what is considered negative press (or negative enough). Nick Saban's clause is very similarly worded.  If he can't get that removed from a contact, pretty much no way a Tucker level guy is either.

it's why I was shocked Les got his buyout from Kansas (an AD that wasn't his lifelong friend would have terminated him with cause for the same reason Tucker is going to ultimately be fired).

and Tucker has admitted publicly to having phone sex with her.
even if it was completely consensual, having phone sex with someone (other than his wife) becoming public could fall under that clause.

Not along the same lines, but. In 2001, O'Leary left Georgia Tech to take over as the head coach for the University of Notre Dame. However, a few days after he was hired, he was fired. His resume had a number of inaccuracies, dates, timelines, degrees received, etc.

I happened to call a friend of mine in the coaching profession, asked what he was doing. His answer, “Like everyone in the profession right now, going over my resume, getting paperwork from every place I worked, dates, times and positions held!” He said that he didn’t want to get a dream job, an have something on his resume mess it up!

Some might remember Mike Price, he may be best known nationally for an off-the-field incident during his brief stint at Alabama. In December 2002, he was hired in principle to replace Dennis Franchione as the head coach of the Menstrual Wave. Price was at Alabama during the 2003 spring practice, but in May his contract was rescinded shortly after news reports surfaced of Price being seen at a strip club during a trip to Pensacola, Florida, where Price was playing in a golftournament, and he also had about $1,000 charged to his hotel room by an unknown woman staying in the room. This development came on the heels of an earlier reprimand for visiting campus-area bars and drinking into the early hours in Tuscaloosa.

Former LSU assistant football coach Mike Heywood was in on the action. On December 16, 2010, Haywood was offered and accepted the head football coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh. However, Haywood was arrested in South Bend, Indiana on December 31, 2010, on felony domestic violence charges. He was released on bond on January 1, 2011, and only hours later was fired by Pitt. In February 2012, the domestic violence charges were dismissed after Haywood completed pre-trial diversion requirements, counseling, and public service.

Like I often say about coaches and players, the off the field things will get you more times, than the on the field.

There’s quite a bit of uncertainty when it comes to the future of the football program in East Lansing.

Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker is currently suspended indefinitely without pay pending the results of a Title IX investigation based on sexual harassment allegations raised by activist Brenda Tracy, which has been ongoing for months but was publicly revealed by a report from USA TODAY Sportsearly Sunday morning.

Tucker faces a Title IX hearing next month, and it seems very likely he will ultimately be fired for cause by the university.

If that happens, Spartans Wire identified LSU defensive coordinator Matt House as a potentially intriguing candidate to watch for the job.

House hasn’t been publicly linked to the job, but it’s easy to see why his name could eventually come up. An alumnus of Michigan State, he also served as a graduate assistant with the program from 2001-02.

Previously a linebackers coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, House received some attention this past offseason as a potential NFL defensive coordinator or even college head coaching candidate at jobs like Cincinnati after leading a defense that ranked 41st nationally in yards allowed last year.

He ultimately returned to LSU, but if he emerged as a candidate at a Big Ten job in this cycle, the Tigers could be hunting for a replacement at defensive coordinator this coming offseason.

Well, if he doesnt get the defense going, then he is welcome to take the job

Michigan State officially fires coach Mel Tucker for cause

  • thamel_pete.png&h=80&w=80&scale=crop
Pete Thamel, ESPNSep 27, 2023, 11:55 AM ET

Michigan State University has fired football coach Mel Tucker for cause Wednesday, formally completing a process that was initiated last week.

Tucker is under university investigation for a sexual misconduct complaint brought forward by Brenda Tracy, a sexual assault awareness speaker.

In a statement, the university said it had terminated Tucker's contract "for his admitted and undisputed behaviors which have brought public disrespect, contempt and ridicule upon the university; and constitute a material breach of his agreement, and moral turpitude."

Michigan State suspended Tucker without pay Sept. 10, and athletic director Alan Haller informed Tucker in a letter Sept. 18 the university intended to fire him for cause. The school opened up an investigation into Tracy's complaint back in December 2022, and there remains an upcoming university hearing on the matter.

The following has been provided by NSU:

Northwestern State University announced today, October 26, that it has canceled the remainder of the 2023 football season due to the recent passing of junior safety, Ronnie Caldwell. The school cites the mental health and well-being of its student-athletes as the primary reason for its decision.

“Ronnie was a beloved member of our community, and we miss him dearly,” said President Marcus Jones. “While our instinct was to return to the field of play following his death, we’ve since learned that the hurt on our team was too deep. Now it is in the best interest of our players, coaches, and staff to pause and to take this time to mourn, to heal, and to support Ronnie’s family.”

Something might change here:

Details about Michigan's alleged sign-stealing scheme just keep pouring out each day this week.

According to FootballScoop, Michigan scouted SEC programs last season. Georgia and Tennessee were apparently on the Wolverines' radar since they were College Football Playoff contenders.

This report from FootballScoop also suggests that Michigan may have helped "assist the opposition of a potential CFP opponent."

If this report is true, Michigan inadvertently helped Ohio State make the CFP.

"What's funny about this is, if it's true that Michigan 'helped' another team knock off a CFP contender and that team was South Carolina as some suggest, UM doing so could have inadvertently helped open the CFP door for Ohio State last year," Jeremy Birmingham said.

Sources: Big Ten coaches urge action vs. Michigan in call

Finebaum rips Harbaugh for sign-stealing allegations (0:59)

Pete Thamel, ESPNNov 1, 2023, 11:56 PM ET

A vast majority of the Big Ten coaches expressed their frustrations with the ongoing signal-stealing investigation at Michigan in a video call with commissioner Tony Petitti on Wednesday, sources told ESPN.

The call, which took 90 minutes, included nearly an hour without Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who hung up after the regularly scheduled Big Ten business to allow the conference's coaches to speak freely about the NCAA's investigation into Michigan.

According to five sources familiar with the call, a chorus of voices encouraged Petitti to take action against Michigan in a call that was described as both intense and emotional.

"Collectively, the coaches want the Big Ten to act -- right now," said a source familiar with the call. "What are we waiting on? We know what happened."
