In this story:

LSU TIGERS

Kim Mulkey and the reigning National Champion LSU Tigers will host five-star guard Addie Deal for a visit to Baton Rouge on Saturday, sources tell LSU Country.

The No. 12 ranked prospect in the 2025 class is a priority target for the Bayou Bengals as they continue building a roster for the long haul.

Deal, a hot commodity on the recruiting scene, has reeled in over a dozen Division I offers with LSU being the first to extend a scholarship in 2021.

Now, as she continues her rise up the rankings, the Tigers remain in her ear. The No. 1 player in California, Mulkey and Co. are going national for their future classes.

Along with Deal, LSU will get a visit from the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class this fall when Aaliyah Chavez makes her way down South. Both parties remain working to find a date that works.

The latest on the recruiting trail for LSU hoops:

The No. 1 Player in America: Sarah Strong

Sarah Strong is at the top of LSU's "wish list" for good reason. There are ties to LSU with Strong previously playing ball with current freshman Mikaylah Williams and this staff has done its homework on her game.

The No. 1 player in the 2024 class is fresh off of a visit to UCONN last weekend where the prized prospect met with Geno Auriemma and Co. up north.

As it stands, this is a battle between LSU and UCONN for Strong's services. Sources familiar with the situation believe a decision could come by the end of the month for Strong as LSU continues turning up the heat for their top target. LSU Country will keep you updated on a commitment timeline.

The No. 2 Player in America: Joyce Edwards

Joyce Edwards has been well traveled this fall. She's taken her official visit to LSU and will also take a visit to Texas A&M this weekend before a visit to South Carolina set to take place next weekend.

A South Carolina native, the Gamecocks have emerged as the team to beat for Edwards. Following Edwards' visit to College Station this weekend, LSU will look to get in front of Edwards before she takes her trip to South Carolina next weekend.

There is no timeline set for Edwards and a decision, but like Strong, we'll keep you in the loop regarding a commitment date.

New Visit Date in the Works: Aaliyah Chavez

The No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class was set to make her way to Baton Rouge for an official visit to LSU last weekend, but Chavez will reschedule her visit after a conflict changed plans. She will look to get in a trip to campus in the coming weeks.

Chavez, a 5-foot-9 point guard out of Texas, included the Tigers in her Top 10 schools with a visit still in the works.

The numbers are significant for Chavez when it comes from a production standpoint. She averaged 30 points per game on 55% from the field as just a sophomore, but it gets better. From three-point range, Chavez knocked down 47% of her deep balls. As a freshman, she averaged 27 points a night.

LSU picked up a commitment from 6-foot-5 transfer wing/forward Jersey Wolfenbarger on Monday afternoon, just a day after she visited Baton Rouge and watched the Tigers’ NCAA Tournament game against Middle Tennessee.

Wolfenbarger was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2022 before leaving the Arkansas program in November of 2023.

“I know when there’s no information out, everybody thinks negative things,” Neighbors said in November. “Jersey is good. It was very amicable. She’s going to be a great player for somebody someplace. It just didn’t work out here.”

As a freshman, Wolfenbarger started 23 games, played 22.2 minutes, and averaged 7.5 points with 4.3 rebounds. As a sophomore, her minutes shrank, coming off the bench to play 16.2 minutes per game and scoring just 3.9 points.

Wolfenbarger is from Northside high school in Arkansas and was the No. 7 player in the 2021 class. She was the Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and a USA Today First-Team All-American in 2020.

Just a day after her visit, Wolfenbarger becomes LSU’s first transfer portal addition, a period that overlaps with the NCAA Tournament, putting the Tigers in position to recruit as they prepare for the postseason.

LSU is headed to Albany to take on the winner of UCLA and Creighton on Saturday in an attempt to make it to the Elite Eight for a second straight season. With seniors Hailey Van Lith and Angel Reese still sitting on decisions of whether or not to return, LSU is already being aggressive in the portal with scholarships to spare.

Now, we wait to see if the Tigers’ season continues this weekend as all eyes are on LSU as it heads to New York.

“I just have also thought if we’re going to go very far in the playoffs, we have to get better through the course of the year defensively,” Mulkey said. “And I think that’s where our most improvement has been, is that nobody likes defense. When you have that many scorers on a team, I doubt any of them had to be the defensive stopper growing up. If we can do it collectively, if we can help each other, take pride in it and get excited about it as much as we do the offensive end, I think you can have a good season and a good run in the playoffs.”

Jersey Wolfenbarger commits to LSU

By Mike Scarborough
March 25, 2024

Arkansas transfer wing/forward Jersey Wolfenbarger has committed to LSU after a fantastic recruiting visit this past weekend.

The 6-foot-5 senior-to-be was on the All-SEC freshman team in 2022.  She prepped at Northside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas where she was a two-time Gatorade player of the year.

HoopGurlz rated Wolfenbarger as the nation’s No. 7 prospects coming out of high school in 2021.#7 overall prospect in the class of 2021.

Wolfenbarger left the Arkansas program prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.  She averaged 5.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 18.9 minutes in two seasons in Fayetteville.

BREAKING: LSU WBB Lands Commitment From 4-Star Guard Bella Hines

The Tigers reel in their first pledge of the offseason, No. 1 player in New Mexico makes her announcement.

Kim Mulkey and the LSU women's basketball program has landed their first commitment in the 2025 cycle with four-star guard Bella Hines revealing her pledge to the Tigers on Tuesday.

LSU has been tied to the Top 35 prospect for quite some time with Mulkey and Co. sealing the deal before she begins her AAU schedule this spring.

The four-star guard is a player the Tigers covet, and after bringing her to Baton Rouge for a visit last weekend, LSU locked her up and secured her services.

Hines was in for an official visit where she had the opportunity to see LSU defeat Rice and Middle Tennessee in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament; punching their ticket to the Sweet 16 in Albany, New York.

After speaking with sources familiar with Hines recruitment, we believed LSU was in a solid position for the Top 35 recruit. Now, the No. 1 player in New Mexico has made things official after her announcement on social media.

The No. 31 rated player in the 2025 class, the Tigers are high on her as a three-level scorer. Hines, a New Mexico native, has proven to be one of the most lethal bucket-getters in America after averaging a whopping 33 points per game as a junior.

“In this business, you’re going to win some of those battles and you’re going to lose some,” Kim Mylkey said in February. “The crazy thing is you never know why a recruit chooses a school. Sometimes it’s close to home, sometimes it’s the players on the team, sometimes it’s being able to play quickly. Now, after being here for three years, it’s good to be a part of the conversation. Now, I don’t like just being in the top five. I don’t want to chase a wild goose, I want a legit shot at you. I think as we grow as a staff, I don’t care about numbers in front of kids’ names. There are so many overrated kids, then you watch those that don’t have a number in front of their names and they have great careers. I’m more into doing our homework, seeing who we like and let’s go after them and quickly eliminate those we don’t have a shot at

She announced her top ten teams on March 17, including LSU, Iowa, Baylor, Arizona, Florida State, Texas Tech, NC State, West Virginia, TCU, and Kansas State with the defending National Champions beginning to separate themselves from the pack.

LSU has been in New Mexico to hold in-home visits with Hines as well as check out a few of her games over the last few months.

Now, it's full steam ahead to secure a signature from the four-star guard next December as LSU looks to build out its 2025 recruiting class.
