LSU has been in the market for a quarterback in the transfer portal, and now it has one.

Former Vanderbilt quarterback AJ Swann committed Monday, he confirmed on social media, picking the Tigers over South Carolina.

Reports Sunday suggested Swann was headed to South Carolina after visiting both schools. But LSU kept pushing for Swann, who did not make a public announcement until he settled on LSU.

The addition brings a new dynamic to LSU’s quarterback room as the team replaces Jayden Daniels, who opted out of the ReliaQuest Bowl after winning the Heisman Trophy.

LSU added its third prospect from the transfer portal, this time to its quarterback room.

The Tigers didn't have to look very far, as all three of LSU's transfer commitments come from Southeastern Conference schools, to add former Vanderbilt quarterback A.J. Swann.

Swann is a 6-foot-3, 228-pound quarterback from Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. He chose the Tigers over South Carolina and comes to LSU with two years of eligibility, plus the opportunity to redshirt.

He's completed 222 of his 394 pass attempts for 2,731 passing yards and 22 touchdowns along with nine interceptions in his two seasons at Vanderbilt.

However, injuries have plagued Swann's time at Vanderbilt, as he suffered a concussion in 2022 and an elbow contusion in 2023. He missed six games this past season partially due to the injury.

The quarterback room now has four scholarship quarterbacks including Swann. Garrett Nussmeier is the veteran returner set to make the start in the ReliaQuest Bowl, as Jayden Daniel has opted-out to prepare for the NFL Draft.

This being said, Nussmeier is expected to be the leading candidate for the starting job next season, but Swann's experience may create a quarterback battle.

Rickie Collins is also set to return after his he redshirted for his true freshman season, and Colin Hurley is set to arrive as a true freshman as a part of the class of 2024.

Lincoln Riley talks QB recruiting, says players need to have 'a good sense of reality'

Derek Peterson | 3 hours ago

Lincoln Riley recruited Malachi Nelson at Oklahoma. When he left the Sooners to take over at USC, he asked Nelson to trust him and follow him. USC fought off a push from Texas A&M prior to signing day and, when it was all said and done, felt like it had the heir apparent to Caleb Williams.

A year after his signing, Riley and the offensive staff are back to the drawing board, left without the quarterback expected to take them into the post-Williams era and into the Big Ten. Nelson is entering the transfer portal.

Lance Heard (5* OT) did not make the trip to Tampa.  He has not entered the portal, yet.  But the issue is probably he has heard (no pun intended) what other OT are making on NIL, 300-400K per year.  Now, he just played on year, played in all the games, started one game due to injury, but did not nail down a starters role.

I am sure BK and Lance have spoken and BK was clear with him what his options are.  LSU signed a lot of talented OL in this class.

I don't know what will happen.  I hope we keep him and I think BK has the experience to handle the situation.  We got Sage Ryan back.

The NCAA transfer portal has resulted in massive changes to how college football programs operate on an annual basis. But this year might have been its most impactful season yet.

According to On3 Sports, over 2,000 FBS football players have entered the NCAA transfer portal during the current cycle. This cycle has seen a number of prized quarterbacks and former five-star prospect seek out new teams.

Among the players to transfer are former five star defensive lineman Walter Nolen from Texas A&M to Ole Miss, quarterback Aidan Chiles from Oregon State to Michigan State and quarterback Dante Moore from UCLA to Oregon.

There are still a number of big name players that are in the transfer portal though. Former five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart and Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward are just two of them.

LSU landed more help for the secondary as former Ohio State cornerback Jyaire Brown announced his commitment to LSU out of the transfer portal today.

Brown was once rated a four-star cornerback from Louisiana, but graduated from Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio. He was rated No. 24 corner in the class, as well as the eighth-best player from his home state and No. 192 nationally by the 247Sports Composite. Brown committed to Ohio State over offers from other major programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas, among others. He committed to the Buckeyes on April 22, 2020, and enrolled the following January.

Brown suffered an ankle injury and recorded just one tackle in four games this season, but as a freshman in 2022, he played in nine games and had three pass breakups, a forced fumble and eight tackles for the Buckeyes.

He was a former four-star recruit in the Class of 2022 and the No. 24 cornerback in the nation, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He spent his junior and senior years at Lakota West High School in Cincinnati but started high school at Warren Easton in New Orleans.

Brown’s commitment comes one day after LSU parted ways with most of its defensive staff, including cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples. However, LSU is projected to bring back plenty of familiar faces at cornerback.

The Tigers lost sophomore Denver Harris, sophomore Laterrance Welch and junior Duce Chestnut to the transfer portal but are projected to bring back sophomore JK Johnson, junior Zy Alexander, redshirt sophomore Sage Ryan and freshmen Javien Toviano, Ashton Stamps and Jeremiah Hughes.

LSU also signed four-star prospect Ju’Juan Johnson and three-star recruits PJ Woodland, Bernard Causey III and Wallace Foster IV in the 2024 recruiting class in December.

He may be looking at Kaleb Jackson and think he'll be lead next season, especially if his injury has him slowed in Sept., plus Trey Holly.  Cade Durham will arrive in Aug. if not in the spring.  Looks like Kelly likes experience at RB, but Jackson and Holly will have it next season.

Frank likes a good rotation, unless he has a great back. At times this year, you never knew who was starting, an who were coming in. No rotation. The bowl game playing from behind, he wanted a sure guy to protect his QB. That was easy, we did not give up a sack, even with a QB that mostly stayed in the pocket.

Lance Heard reportedly has multiple SEC visits planned as he considers his future.

The offensive tackle was the top player in LSU’s 2023 signing class and will leave the Bayou after just one season. The freshman tackle will visit with the Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Volunteers this weekend, per On3’s Pete Nakos.

Someone will take that level of talent.  I wonder if he'll get the level of NIL he wants?  With last year's signing class and this years, we should still have plenty of depth.  Coach Davis seems to do a very good job with the o-line, glad Kelly kept him on from O's staff.  That has worked out great.  I'm sorry to see Heard go, but I think we will be OK.

I wish Heard luck.

He'll play somewhere but he has to realize that his 5 star ranking might have been a bit overblown. There is a reason why he didn't crack a starting job ANYWHERE along LSU's line. Often you see players that can play tackle get moved inside...why didn't that happen with Heard?

LSU needs to process out about 4 or 5 more players to stay under the 85 scholarship cap limit. I'm pretty sure that is why Diggs is hitting the portal.
