March 3, 2023 7:42 pm CT

The Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class is shaping up to be a special one, and the team added its ninth commit in the cycle on Friday night in four-star Destrehan (La.) linebacker Kolaj Cobbins.

Cobbins ranks just inside the national top 200 according to 247Sports, and he becomes the fifth top-200 commitment for LSU in the class, which currently ranks third nationally. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect chose the in-state Tigers over Texas, Michigan, Ole Miss, Colorado and others.

LSU was prepared for a huge recruiting weekend and they’re getting just that. Late Friday night, the Tigers picked up a commitment from four-star linebacker Kolaj Cobbins.

Cobbins, a Louisiana native, is a Top 5 player in the state, giving Brian Kelly’s program another in-state victory in the 2024 class.

Cobbins is commit No. 9 in the 2024 class after the Tigers also welcomed four-star cornerback Wallace Foster back in November.. For Kelly and the Tigers to continue their hot streak on the recruiting trail, as the trajectory of this program continues to trend positively, shows the long-term goals of this team.

The Destrehan product chose LSU over Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss, among others, adding to the incredible stretch on the recruiting trail this program has had.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has all the tools to compete in the SEC with the developmental skills this coaching staff attains. Kelly has been working to develop relationships early in the 2024 and 2025 cycles, clearly making an impression on Cobbins over a short period of time.

Cobbins uses his physicality well for his size. With quick feet and the strength to back it up, he’s a prospect who has a chance to fly up the rankings even more by the time it’s all said and done. A 4-star currently, look for the youngster to make an impression as he prepares for his senior year at Destrehan.

With Cobbins heading to Baton Rouge this weekend alongside a number of gifted priority 2024 targets, his presence gives this program a boost when it comes to recruiting his peers.

Louisiana native Ahmad Breaux wasted no time committing to Brian Kelly and LSUafter receiving an offer on Saturday. Breaux earned an offer on Saturday, decommitted from Duke on Sunday and eventually committed to LSU late Sunday afternoon.

Breaux, a Louisiana native, continues cruising up the recruiting rankings ahead of his senior year, giving Brian Kelly’s program another in-state victory in the 2024 class.

Breaux is commit No. 10 in the 2024 class after the Tigers also welcomed four-star linebacker Kolaj Cobbins on Friday. For Kelly and the Tigers to continue their hot streak on the recruiting trail, as the trajectory of this program continues to trend positively, shows the long-term goals of this team.

The Ruston product chose LSU over Duke, Missouri and Louisiana, among others, adding to the incredible stretch on the recruiting trail this program has had.

With high-priority targets on campus, Kelly and Co. made it important to get face time with the Ruston product. Breaux, who had been committed to Duke for a few months, had a great visit to Baton Rouge where the Tigers ultimately made him feel right at home.

2024 Aledo (Tex.) linebacker Davhon Keys is fresh off an unofficial visit to LSU last weekend and committed to LSU on Saturday, he announced on Twitter.

LSU had the momentum in the recruiting battle for Keys after his latest trip to Louisiana, which he has deep ties to.

“I had a great time, and really enjoyed the visit,” Keys told On3. “The whole staff was very welcoming and I loved getting to see the campus and facilities. He (coach House) said he was glad I came for the visit and wants to get me back on campus as soon as possible.”

Alabama offered him Tuesday night, giving him yet another big offer on his resume. Duke, Oklahoma and TCU are among the top schools also involved with Keys.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Keys ranks as the No. 59 linebacker in the country and No. 101 overall prospect in Texas.

On3 is even higher on Keys, who ranks as the No. 38 linebacker nationally and No. 87 prospect in Texas.

LSU hosted several of the top rising juniors and seniors to campus over the weekend. After a monster Friday “Junior Day” event followed by another big recruiting Saturday, Brian Kelly and his staff had the chance to get some face time with top targets.

With players already holding an LSU offer on campus, it was a big day for priority prospects to evaluate what this program can offer, but Kelly and his staff also utilized the weekend to dish out offers to guys they’ve had their eyes on.

The Tigers dished out six offers on Friday and Saturday. From recruits on the rise in the 2025 class to prominent 2024 guys, LSU made major moves.

A look into a few offers dished out:

Jamie Ffrench - Wide Reciever - 2025

Ffrench has elevated his status to a Top 5 wideout in the 2025 class and it’s for good reason. A rising junior, the youngster has blossomed into one of the more physically gifted receivers in the nation.

An offer from the Tigers is just one of the latest schools to give him an opportunity at the next level. Ffrench has propelled himself as one of the Top 30 overall players in the country with the chance to be a five-star when it’s all said and done if he continues on this trajectory.

Isaiah Mozee - Wide Receiver - 2025

Wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton put in work over the weekend. Offering a couple of wideouts as this position group reloads for the future, he went ahead and dished one out to Mozee.

The Missouri native may not have a ranking just yet, but it hasn’t slowed down Power Five programs from offering him. A list including LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia and more, look for Mozee to be nationally ranked sooner rather than later.

Kamare Williams - Wide Receiver - 2025

Another offer. Another wide receiver in the 2025 class. Coach Hankton sees immediate potential in the rising junior who already stands at 6-foot-4, 175 pounds. After receiving an offer from the Tigers, it’s clear this program is eyeing wideouts in the 2025 class with a majority of scholarships given out this weekend being from this position group.

For Williams, the youngster has the chance to be special given his already impactful size at the high school ranks. LSU, along with Penn State, Florida State, Miami and more, have already offered the rising junior with tremendous upside.

Other offers:

Waden Charles - Wide Receiver - 2025

Denairius Gray - Wide Receiver - 2025

Blake Woodby - Cornerback - 2025

Parkway kicking phenom Aeron Burrell, who picked an LSU football scholarship offer in early March, has committed to the Tigers, he announced Saturday on Twitter.

“After careful consideration, I’ve decided to remain in the Boot!!!” Burrell said on his Twitter feed.

The junior recently picked up a TCU offer and had offers from Houston, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Lafayette, Grambling and Southern. He said March 8 he hadn’t decided when he might commit.

He received the call from LSU special teams coach John Jancek making the offer.

“It was great. I was at a loss for words,” Burrell said.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Burrell was a 2022 Shreveport Times All-City first-team kicker. He drilled 51 of his 52 kickoffs last season for touchbacks and converted 8 of 10 field goals, including from 50 and 52 yards. He was good on 37 point-after attempts in making the District 1-5A All-District team.

All it took was one full recruiting cycle for Brian Kelly to prove he can indeed recruit at LSU. After closing with a couple of key pickups to end the 2022 class, Kelly and his staff assembled a top-five class in 2023 and look to be on that pace again in the 2024 cycle.

Last year’s class featured several elite EDGEs, wide receivers and tight ends. And while those positions are still targets in ’24, the Tigers have their eyes set on the defensive line and secondary, among other places. LSU already has nearly a dozen commitments on the board by early April, and they’re trending heavily with a few other major targets, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

National recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman helps break down where LSU stands with a number of big names.

Top targets LSU is leading with

4-star TE Trey’Dez Green
School: Jackson (La.) East Feliciana
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 56
On3 RPM: LSU 97.6%, Ole Miss 1.3%

Spiegelman’s Take: “Dual-sport standout Trey’Dez Green has quietly been to LSU more than any other school in his recruitment. He’s the top in-state pass-catcher on the board, and Brian Kelly and Co. have certainly put themselves in pole position for the elite tight end. Former Alabama DC Pete Golding has sparked Green’s interest in Ole Miss along with fitting into Lane Kiffin’s offense, and Tennessee has been a team generating buzz around Green for a good chunk of the spring.”

5-star DL Dominick McKinley
School: Lafayette (La.) Acadiana
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 19
On3 RPM: LSU 93.2%, Texas A&M 1.5

Spiegelman’s Take: “McKinley sits atop of Brian Kelly’s wish list in 2024 and has already been a very visible coach involved in the 6-foot-6, 285-pounder’s recruitment. McKinley has already visited LSU twice this spring along with Alabama and Texas A&M, as well as Oklahoma and Texas. Ole Miss, Ohio State and Michigan are also in pursuit of McKinley, who will be a massive target for several teams to pluck from The Boot.”

4-star DL Charleston Collins
School: Pine Bluff (Ark.) Wilbur D. Mills
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 260
On3 RPM: LSU 95.0%, Ole Miss 1.9%, Arkansas 1.6%

Spiegelman’s Take: “Collins has shot toward the top of teams’ boards after a strong junior season, and that includes LSU, which has been the favorite on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine since working out for the coaching staff last summer in Baton Rouge. The Tigers just got Collins back on campus in March and face stiff competition from Texas, TCU, Oregon, Ole Miss and also Arkansas, which behind new DC Travis Williams has asserted itself into the race with Collins.”

4-star CB Wardell Mack
School: Marrero (La.) John Ehret
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 73
On3 RPM: LSU 98.5%

Spiegelman’s Take: “Mack was back at LSU in the spring and has made a string of visits nearby to Baton Rouge over the past year-plus. He is a top priority for LSU at a position of need and among the in-state crop. Mack is coming off his first visit to Florida State, where New Orleans-based assistants Pat Surtain and David Johnson made a huge splash with the four-star DB. Mack is set to get to Florida and Texas for the first time in April as well. These visits loom especially large for Mack, who is hopeful to make official visits and move toward a decision over the summer.”

4-star DB Tylen Singleton
School: Many (La.)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 137
On3 RPM: LSU 87.2%, Arkansas 4.0%, Texas A&M 2.3%

Spiegelman’s Take: “Singleton has been actively visiting schools both new and familiar this spring with stops at TCU and Tennessee already checked off. Arkansas and Texas A&M are two more contenders in the SEC. LSU will get Singleton back on campus for the spring game, a massive opportunity for the Tigers to get one of the state’s best defenders. LSU, Texas A&M, TCU and Arkansas are all trending for official visits for Singleton, who is aiming to find the right fit on and away from the field.”

Three-Point Stance: LSU's latest recruiting strategy could pay off

Rivals national recruiting analyst Nick Harris looks at Colorado's potential on the recruiting trail, Baylor's quarterback recruiting problem and LSU's recruiting strategy that could pay off in the end.

How effective is LSU's double-offer strategy with top dual-sport recruits?

Drelon Miller

Drelon Miller (Rivals.com)

It's no secret that there has been a substantial regeneration of life into the LSU program since Brian Kelly has taken over, and that stretched deep into the recruiting trail in the 2023 class as the Tigers landed the No. 5 class in the country. In 2024, that momentum has carried over, and the latest strategy coming out of Death Valley is one that might help the Tigers in some closer battles with athletic prospects.

In late February, LSU extended a basketball offer to Silsbee (Texas) four-star wide receiver

that helped vault the Tigers into within striking distance for one of the nation's top receiving threats. Shortly thereafter, Klein (Texas) Forest four-star wide receiver   landed his first track offer from LSU, which is shocking considering his thorough track profile as a sprinter. And then, just days ago, Duncanville (Texas) four-star running back   also landed a track offer from LSU amid a huge sprinting season.

All three have shown increased interest in LSU since the dual-offers, and it has the Tigers creeping even further into the state of Texas for talent. Can the strategy pay off in the end? My early indication is yes.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly and his staff picked up the commitment of the one of Louisiana's best athletes Saturday afternoon as Class of 2024 safety Dashawn McBryde‍ of Denham Springs announced his decision.

McBryde was on campus for LSU’s spring football game on Saturday and made the decision official during his visit.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound McBryde chose LSU over Tennessee, Ole Miss and many others.

At the 5-A district track meet this week, McBryde posted a 23-00.75 long jump.

LSU now has 13 commitments for the class of 2024.

Big Time Get!

BATON ROUGE – Four-star tight end Trey'Dez Green has committed to LSU football, Green announced on Wednesday.

At 6-foot-6 and 239 pounds, Green is the No. 57 player and No. 3 tight end in the nation, according to 247Sports Composite. The East Feliciana High School football and basketball star is Louisiana's No. 2 recruit in football.

For Kelly and the Tigers to continue their hot streak on the recruiting trail, as the trajectory of this program continues to trend positively, shows the long-term goals of this team.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end/wide receiver has been on a steady rise throughout high school, but a productive junior campaign has seen his recruitment take off. Green has added several SEC offers over the last few months before announcing his pledge to LSU.

If he's as productive as Marcus Spears, we'll have a dandy!

"Spears was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a highly sought after two-sport athlete in the country following his senior season at Southern University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge. On the high school football field, he was rated as the No. 1 tight end prospect in America and the third-best overall prospect after earning high school All-America honors. He was named first-team Class 1A all-state selection on both offense and defense following his senior season, becoming the first player to be honored on both in Louisiana since 1991. He finished his final prep season with 28 receptions for 435 yards and three touchdowns and 245 rushing yards and six touchdowns on offense and 22 tackles for losses, 11.5 quarterback sacks and four fumble recoveries on defense. Spears was also one of the nation's top basketball prospects. He was named Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year for Louisiana following his senior season."

They asked BK what was the difference in recruiting at ND vs LSU.  He said in ND, you get in a plane and fly across the country and if you're lucky to see two prospects in a day.  In La., you get in your car, drive around the state and you can visit 5 or 6 top prospects who want to play for your university, and be home by dinner time!

Spoke with former LSU PK John Corbello: His son, Aidan Corbello, has accepted a walk-on opportunity at LSU. Aidan has been the PK at Jesuit HS (N.O.) for four years. (Bust out the Corbello For Heisman shirts!)

I am beyond excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Louisiana State University. It is a dream come true that would not have been possible without the help of my family, coaches, and teammates.

Ju'Juan Johnson, considered among the top athletes in Louisiana's 2024 football recruiting class, has committed to LSU. The announcement came Monday night on the Jordy Cullotta Show. The Lafayette Christian standout had previously pledged Feb. 4 to Colorado but re-opened the recruiting process April 23.

I saw when he pledged to Colorado, I was disappointed.  When LSU wins natty's, they have had at least two years mopping up in La., signing at least 8 of the top 10 recruits in La.  I am very happy to see BK claw this one back where he belongs!  Get that fence up BK!
